Body cams need to be reviewed. From the short footage, this shoot didn't look clean at all.

Why did they close so quickly on him when they easily could have stayed where they were and out of knife range? Let the taser do it's work and just wait for submission and compliance. Closing in on him so fast is what put the officers in direct danger of him using the weapon he had. I'm feeling pretty unsure about this one.

Agreed. Esp since a machete is really difficult to throw. I’m not trying to be funny, and I know people have been killed by machetes on city streets before, but it feels like they wanted to kill him. They let people terrorize mid Billings every night racing motorcycles at 50-60 on residential streets, so public safety is obviously not a priority.

I have the same questions. if one taser isn't sufficient or malfunctions, there should be other options less deadly.. billy clubs/ batons, pepper spray come to mind. 5 shots from close range is excessive. how often and what kind of de-escalation training is provided? are negotiators/counselors available for mental health crises such as this one?
nothing is going to bring this man back to his loved ones. perhaps an investigation the spokesman mentioned will bring about proactive measures to prevent another tragedy. As God's children, his family and others deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

@@kathysenn7664 I'm sure there was more than one taser or less lethal options among the officers. It was getting so close to him that made the knife a deadly threat, and also took the less lethal options away. Billy clubs, batons etc would have not really been a good option either because they bring them into knife range also. "If" they had him cornered and no citizens were in danger, time was on their side and often time is what people need to come to their senses and comply. If rushing him after he was tased is what the officers were trained to do, then they need to rethink that when the person is still armed because it certainly didn't work out this time. Despite his criminal past people loved him and I'd like to think killing someone is the last thing an officer would want to have to do. Like you implied, lets hope lessons from this perhaps save someone in the future. 👍
