  • Cantavieja is a municipality and Spanish town in the province of Teruel, in the autonomous community of Aragón. It has a population of 729 inhabitants.
In the Middle Ages, Cantavieja was a Muslim enclave until the Christian conquest in 1169 by Alfonso II of Aragon and, initially, it was donated to the Order of the Holy Redeemer. In 1197 the encomienda was already formed, its first commander being Miguel de Luna.3 During the Late Middle Ages, Cantavieja was head of the Baylía de Cantavieja, being transferred on November 29, 1212 to the Knights Templar.
