    A truely great video, seeing you reflect after the fact is amazing. I ordered clark pads because I learnt if your feet leave the pedals you have ZERO control. You didnt see the pot hole why didnt you see the pot hole? What you cant see will cause an off, perhaps consider a helmet light that illuminates the road fully, you will be shocked at just how much more you see. Considered gearing up fully, you got luckly "maybe" the next weeks will tell, ideally motorbike jacket back protector and knee pads. Lastly consider if you are going to push it that you have a planned route and know the roads well. Glad you are okay and reflecting.

    It's funny watching this because yesterday I crashed (MSP-HT) at intersection in front of a burger king haha. I've never crashed in traffic so I had a serious adrenaline rush! after the crash I had to keep stopping to get off the wheel and walk because I'd get dizzy with tunnel vision like I was going to black out every time I tried to ride, very weird reaction I thought. Road rash on knee's and elbows and probably light sprain on my knee. I wish I could watch my crash on video because I know it had to look like a ugly fall haha. Next day I'm walking like a old man! Haha.
    Speedy recovery to you bro!
    Oh yea I'll have to watch your video on replacing my trolly handle if I can't straighten it out because my got bent.

    I have a summer motorcycle jacket that has padding in it. I now wear that every time I ride the wheel. Wrist guards and helmet also. I have knee and shin guards and I'm not in the habit of wearing and I should be. I've gone down a few times because I'm still not a very skilled rider, I need a lot more practice and skills building. One of my strategies is to simply not go faster than I can read the road.

    • @MichaelMutai
      @MichaelMutai  3 года назад

      I understand ,Wrist guards have helped me alot in my crushes so far,Building skill is important also,been riding for a year but i keep learning,this pothole was more of a sunken part on the asphalt i believe due to heavy vehicles.

    • @supercurioTube

      Agree, jacket with built-in protection are an excellent solution. You don't even feel like you're wearing anything special, from the outside it might looks just like any other jacket, but you're much better protected.

    I crashed at 30 MPH last week. My first high speed crash. Earth Day, the wobbles got me. Smooth bike path, no warning just very violent and strong wobbles out of nowhere. It all happened in about 3 seconds. I always thought I could ride out or control the wobbles but this was a reality check. I had lots of armorer but nothing on my endows or hips. Slid like a baseball player. My left hip and forearm got bad road rash. My hip is all black and blue. It sure is scary as you realize you are going down. The wheel got a bent rim because it hit a guard rail. I picked up some pieces of my wheel and road it home with a bent rim. If you want to know what it cost to replace a rim, front LCD light and new tire on an RS it about $400. Today was my first high speed ride since the crash... I put my elbow protection on.

    DAMN BRO!!! I know you don't ride with pads or spiked pedals, but I will say it again... Bro, alot of the falls will either not happen or you will recover from a fall or your fall will be less destructive with having pads and spiked pedals. SO much more control. Maybe one day you'll Change your mind

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 3 года назад +1

      Agree, with the right pads most potholes that would cause you to fly off become a non-issue.
      Above a certain speed it becomes a safety requirement. Worth the investment of time to figure out what works for you - and you can absolutely make your own.

      @@supercurioTube exactly... I have at least 3 pair that I've made and I swap them off and on throughout my 3 wheels.

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 3 года назад +1

      @@jaymoose4337 pretty cool!
      I wonder why you found the spike pedals necessary, is it because you prefer not having too much lock-in from the pads themselves?
      I'm asking because with my pads my foot doesn't move much if at all vertically or front/back either, despite a wide range of motion of the legs, and I can exit sideways easy enough which is useful for off-road.
      When I tried various spiked pedals I didn't like them, feeling unnecessarily constrained.
      But your experience is different it seems.

      @@supercurioTube pedals for me here in Vegas are for jumping aswell. The potholes he mentioned, I've come across before. Swerve out of the way of one, just to run into another and when I jump unexpectedly, coming down from that jump isn't going to be necessarily soft... I have come to find that spikes mixed with sandpaper will TOTALLY keep you more stable. You are right, some feel they are too restrictive,,, I felt that way at first and now I swear buy it.
      They are really good on something as mild like the 16X aswell.

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 3 года назад

      @@jaymoose4337 thanks for the great explanation.
      I think the difference might be optimization for different use cases.
      Like: for you the goal is to stay on the wheel, exactly in place, effortlessly even in the most unexpected scenario, because you're at speed and on the street.
      Bailing out or walking off are not options.
      And for me the current config (on 16X) is tuned for technical off-road, where you sometime want to quickly remove one foot, or even both to regain balance when you couldn't go over this combo of roots and rocks. Locked in place by the pads but not in all directions, to be able to bail out or walk off the wheel at slow speed, and catch it.
      If that makes sense 😌

  • @wojciechego6
    @wojciechego6 3 года назад +1

    If you were using jump pads, you could just jump over the holes and move forward. The pads are not only used to push the wheel, but also for safety.

  • @brederikrides
    @brederikrides 3 года назад

    You would probably enjoy Russian-style pads, they don't lock you in so much like power pads but could have prevented you from losing the wheel. Those are the only style pad I like, I really don't like feeling locked in either. I made my own from upholstery cushion and synthetic leather so they were low cost as well.

    I am a new rider. One day old. It’s difficult to learn because of the balancing skill. But as for your crash 💥, you slept? I think it’s a concussion 🤕.

    • @MichaelMutai

      Hope so far you are way well into your riding experience...i think it was shock...i dint hit the ground with my head just skidding ......Thanks!!

  • @supercurioTube
    @supercurioTube 3 года назад +1

    Oh man sorry you went down.
    Please take some extra care because of the concussion. That's why you were daydreaming and had to sleep I'm guessing.
    2 weeks of rest taken seriously, and please see a doctor for maybe a scan if you have persistent headache.
    I mean, standard concussion stuff, I'm not a doctor!
    Regarding potholes: pads that lock you in: no doubt about that!
    Then you have two options: lift the wheel / jump over if enough time or go in, bend the knees a and absorb the shock and keep connected to the wheel in all situation instead of being kicked off.
    Night and day difference.
    I printed my own pads, you also have a printer right?

    • @MichaelMutai
      @MichaelMutai  3 года назад +1

      Yes I do have a printer, I find riding with pads really uncomfortable i dont like to be locked in, i prefer having the wheel free,I have tried pads of course.
      As for concussion , my head/helmet dint hit the asphalt , I just skidded for a lil good while.Its been 2 days after the crush and am 95% back to normal.
      Thanks for your input

      @@MichaelMutai Glad to hear you're doing mostly fine! I wish you the best recovery.
      Have you tried the NickNonsense split pads? With that you can adjust exactly the front and rear parts to get the the security needed without them getting in the way.
      My favourite pads so far, I don't like most others as they don't allow to bend the knees enough and generally get in the way.

      @@MichaelMutai You don't have to hit your head to get a concussion (brain injury). Your brain is made of different layers of different densities. The G forces in a fall can expose the layers to sheer forces or a shift in cerebral spinal fluid pressures between spine and brain which can cause the inflammatory response. When I fell at 30mph it was a sliding fall but I felt like I was in a state of shock, my mind was having trouble focusing while I tried to collect myself and get back on the wheel. I'm healed and my wheel has been fixed and I've am back to riding fast. I do feel a little spooked when I start going over 30mph again. Thank you for posting your videos.
