I am a bit late to the party but i lived in the Marshall Islands as a kid with my family, we were from New Zealand and farher got a job working for Air Marshal Islands and he trained all the flight crew back when they used to do international trips. The plane showen in your pic on the runway was a DC8 it was a unique plane as it was setup as a combi, it could take half people and half freight. It now lives in Hawaii at a Navel Air Base museum. We flew all over the pacific in that and others from 1992-1994. My family were fortunate enough to be made so welcome with the marshalese people, we made lots of friends and my brother and I really enjoyed this part of our childhood. Yokwey to you all.
@@peninakumar538 Hi I live in Christchurch, I often wonder what its like in majuro now , would love to go visit one day. I got to spend time fishing and playing with all the marshelese kids, making forts and eating coconuts fresh off the trees, eating papaya and salt fish and also experiencing some US culture too flying to hawaii and other islands, spent time going to laura for swimming and just having a great time as a kid coming from another world away like NZ. Had my 10th birthday in Hawaii, I had the honor of meeting the then president Amata Kabua and his family. It was a neat place and i miss it even 30 years later.
@@simongillard7522 awww that’s beautiful experience you have there. I too have not been back to the Island. I left Majuro in 2003 to US. And arrived here with my 3 kids in 2005. I then flew to Hawaii and gave birth to my youngest daughter in 2007. I never had a chance to make a trip back to Majuro. I hope one day I will.
Summer 1990, I worked on Majuro for COM, teaching 2 English classes. The people I met there were nice folks, including the leader of COM (at the time), Hilda Jetnil, and Selina who worked with Jetnil. I briefly met Lanny Kabua once, and a nice waitress at the Plumeria Lounge (?). In Hawaii, I met the RMI President (and his wife) at the Ramada in Waikiki in 2015. I also met a cool Marshallese guy, Tom Luther, working at the HSH in Kaneohe, and a Marshallese nurse at Unit U. YUKWE to all of you nice people.
One thing O’ahu isn’t short of besides Filipinos, is Marshallese and Micronesians! I have met many kind ones here apart from of course those in the Marshall Islands! Glad you have fond memories of kind people 😊😊😊

Interesting your perspective of Majuro! But even better if your mention to the outer islands. From Houston you might have one more connecting flight to Hawaii Oahu, than Majuro Marshall Island. I think United has 3 flight a wk if I am not mistaken. The Marshall island is a day ahead of the states.
Yes what Deborah said! United is the airline service the marshalls internationally other than Nauru. You’ll more than likely fly straight to HNL then to MAJ. if not either connect in Phoenix or LAX. Assuming the marshalls are not closed off to covid
It should feel like the US because the Marshall Island it is the United States. Just like Puerto Rico and some of the Virgin Islands. If you look at the definition of the United States, the Marshall Island is part of the definition. So, the people will have their own culture, their own language besides English and their own things but at the end it is just like going to another state.
the US tested Nuclear weapons off bikini atoll. The United States is in debt the Marshall islands for all the disastrous calamity illness from the nuclear fallout , 50 years later several atolls are uninhabited due to levels of Radiation.
