I think you may have forgotten one part of the instructions; scan all of the circuit breaker once, then have a second go to loon for the actual connection. I have one of these and it went red for two separate breakers. On the second scan, the false positive from the first scan did not turn red. Either way, I agree that this is a great tool to have for your home.
Yeah. They seem ok on a small, single phase installation, but they don’t do so well on multiple panels or 3 phase commercial installations. Not sure why.
Those are cool and I do use one but they really don’t work that well. I’d say they’ll frustrate a home owner more than they’ll help. Same as a non contact tester, some tools are better left for electricians.
Then you have different problems... However let's say you don't have this tool... What you do is turn off the main disconnect and make sure there's no power, wire nut the neutral and the hot on whatever receptacle or fixture you're looking to find the breaker for and go back to the electrical panel and get an ohmmeter and test for continuity by putting one lead on the neutral bar and the other on each breaker until it beeps. Bam you know what breaker is for whatever you're testing. Go and separate your wires and power everything back on.
They make adapters so you can use it on light sockets or exposed wires as well. Super useful.
Those are cool when they work, but I've found they aren't always accurate when it comes to detecting the right breaker at the panel.

I was gonna get one of those but decided against it and got the klien et450 wire tracer instead. For my line of work it was the better option.
