Who else finds that the Apollo II reminds them of the giant versions of Wall-E that were aboard the Axiom, the Wall-A units. Their "voices" were low and sounded much like that.
+BlizzardOfTheCoast The Apollo 2 is indeed cool. Compared to the Dectalk and Intex Talker, it's also quite versatile when it comes to shaping the voice. In addition, it can speak in several languages.
"Perhaps we prefer you". The female cenobite is the most frightening in my opinion. After watching the movie I was afraid to go to the bathroom alone at night. One can be an adult but she is genuinely majestically frightening.
That Apolo II is a far scarier cenobite than pinhead. The over enunciation combined with that baritone, monotonous voice makes the scene sound like Rita is talking to something... otherworldly!
Thanks! There is a software synthesizer called Orpheus TTS, which is quite similar to the Apollo 2. I wasn't able to do the Pinhead voice on it, but it's still a cool sounding TTS synthesizer. For the hardware version you have to check the flea market - my unit is dated 1993.

Not sure if I qualify as a collector, but I've always been facinated by synthetic/robotic speech, so if I see a vintage device for a decent price I'll grab it :)
Congrats, you got yourself a really cool speech synthesizer :) There used to be a manual on a website some time ago, but I can't find it anymore. Luckily I downloaded it and here it is: www.perkristian.net/misc/On-line_Series_2_Speech_Synthesizer_manual.htm
Many thanks! I also did found a - not so good as yours - copy of a similar manual page via Wayback at web.archive.org/web/20050312160328/www.eurisco.com/square1/apollo2.html
I loved the speech synthesizer singing at the beginning!!! That was fun to hear!!!
The soundtrack composed by Christopher Young is really awesome so I wanted to include some of it in the video :)
The whisper effect reminds me of the title calls from Serial Experiments Lain.
Oh my god, the female cenobite's voice is terrifying

2:07 The fact that it was an old speech synthesizer that said this quote with that tone makes it sound even more ominous.
I can't get enough of the Apollo II. So cool!

I want these speech synthesizers so badly!
Very, very eerie. Thank you very much for the upload.
Well done! Very impressive.
OH... OH! This is superb!!!
Amazing! Make some more!! :O

Pinhead is an angel to me
The Dolphin Apollo II is a software instrument; it actually uses a DSP do do the synthesis.
Dude. You got to do more of these. They are amazing
excellent
This really gets me moist

she sounds more annoyed then terrified
Nice! What kind of speech synthesizers are those, and more importantly, how do you use them?
Absolutely brilliant! Is it still possible to get the Apollo II from somewhere, either as SW emulation or HW?

Hellraiser?
More like Helldriver.

Hey do you collect speech synthesizers? I'd love to have a few RS-232C vintage ones!
Not sure if I qualify as a collector, but I've always been facinated by synthetic/robotic speech, so if I see a vintage device for a decent price I'll grab it :)
What is the name of the synthesizer voice of the white box and the other
With all this AI disruption, I think this is how it looks like in the perspective of it's detractors.
Dear Per Kristian Risvik,
do you got a manual for the Dolphin Apollo 2?
I did buy one today on ebay and want to learn before I will get him :)
Congrats, you got yourself a really cool speech synthesizer :)
