    It's crazy to me how ppl think $12 is enough. Maybe cost of living in Mexico is significantly lower and $12 is great but I deff aint netting fish and picking crabs all day for $12 an hour with overtme. $12 is barely 30K a year. Once again, companies do not want to pay ppl what they are worth.

    • @Eusantdac
      @Eusantdac 6 лет назад

      Not only that it's $12 an hour but it's hard work and You have to move fast. It's not like a walk in the park. Same with picking oranges. Americans can't work as fast and be as productive as Mexican workers. Hell, You can;t put me out there for more than a few hours then, I'll want a half hour break, some ice-cold lemonade and some air-conditioning lol

    Hey if they can't get Non American Workers then, too bad for them trying to save a business off cheap labor and wanting to expand too? ;-( Abusing the H-2B Visa system at our expense... I bet they don't pay for support or benefits while here...

      Why would they even pay benefits? Its indentured servitude.

    I wonder if any of the bright people on here heard the woman say that they paid BETWEEN $12-18 and hour for the job? These are the same people that go to college and demand a 6 figure salary out the door because they are too good for anything less then complete comfort. But, they don't get that its a fare wage for a simple job. Hard work, but a job that needs maybe a day of training. Most of the people on here would work for $12-18 an hour if it was an indoor low impact job that they had to put very little effort into, but the fact remains that there are jobs that require more effort but still are not deserving of higher pay because there is no skill or experience required. If we base salary on effort of work, then all of the business management, psychology degree, liberal arts majors and the like should earn pennies on the dollar compared to these people. Because they don't do anything close to work compared to these people.

      "not deserving of higher pay because there is no skill or experience required"
      Scarcity determines wages. The only effect skill and experience have on wages is that the skill and/or experience required for a job may affect the amount of people able to do that job. Basic supply and demand.

    I can think of one problem with taking seasonal work is even if an employer provides healthcare what happens at the end of the season no work & no healthcare, just have to hope you don't get sick in the off season...

    Happy Phillips can put up a building in Mexico and have Mexicans hand pick crabs for him, but the pace of automation is accelerating... robots will be able to do this job soon. Latin America is even less prepared for the future of automation than we are up here in the US.

    I agree that if those affected positions paid a "Living" wage, it would be so much better for everyone. However, what people don't understand that if these jobs paid $12.00 an hour for example, A pound of crab would cost $48.00.. and consumers just wont or cant afford to pay that. Same with Farming. Who wants to pay $5.00 for a tomato? Its a huge problem. The other problem is that "Amerians" don't want to do that type of manual dirty work anymore... and farming of all types and in the end the consumer, me and you will feel the effect.
