We're releasing a free tut every Wednesday until April 5 too!
Please, tell me: What have you done with this new DUIK? It works so slowly... When I move the controllers everything starts lagging. It's horrible to work with that. And it's not my computer's fault! What have you done!!!!
Nothing, that's just After Effects.
If you bake the bones and the controllers, the performance is not worse than before, we've actually worked A LOT to improve the performance as much as possible, but we're limited with what AE can do. It's not our fault if expressions are so slow, can't do anything about that.
Also, using nulls or pixel layers as controllers instead of shape layers improves the performance a lot. To use pixel layers, you just have to tag the layers you want to use as controllers and select them when running the autorig.
One last note: Duik is free, and open source. If you think it can be improved, you're welcome to contribute.
The tip about the controllers is actually explained in the video, and you can see it's not so laggy.
