  • A massive crowd of 104,329 packed the MCG on 5 September 1970 when South Melbourne played St Kilda to end a 25-year absence from the finals.
Down 2.5 goals to 6.1 goals at quarter-time, the Swans showed courage to claw their way back into the game in the second term and led by five points at halftime.
But the Saints, led brilliantly by ruckmen Carl Ditterich and Brian Mynott, outscored them 13.8 to 4.4 in a dominant second half.

I remember being on school holidays in the country and listening on the radio. A very excited 11-year-old and very nervous all the game. Great memories and terrific to see the game finally after all these years.

@MU FC Not sure you are on the mark with that. Footy has been huge in Australia for over 100 years and together with Rugby, they ARE the winter sports. While lots of play and watch soccer (its not football in Australia), you cannot take the footy fan and lover out of the Australians

This is terrific footage, particularly for me as a foreign fan. I'm delighted to see so many different styles of kicking, although it's noticeable that the only kicks that seem to have any degree of accuracy are the drop punts. Marking also looks like a different proposition than nowadays. Wonderful coverage regardless.
