Saberia me explicar…
Cara essa pergunta curiosa .. balanced is not the best word because for my "balance" I prefer the de fat 50s hahaha but yeah more mid and attack on the 60s ... the 50s is more mellow ..
@@MarceloDurham I like the 60s one, but no one’s selling a loaded pickguard and I don’t feel like soldering that much… You said you could be happy with the 60s and dial back the mids further down the signal chain… do you think I’d be happy with the 50s if I boosted the mids a little further down the signal chain? To clarify: the thing I like about the 60s one is the high e and b strings sounded less harsh to me when you played under the bridge. It’s possible the bite of the mids isn’t coming through as much on the video and I’d find out the hard way that I don’t like it as much as I thought I would.

I like the fat 60's more. And respectfully i do not agree with your assessment about their frequency charts. I used logic to even check. 1. Fat 50's quite definitely have more top end, they are brighter pickups 2. Fat 50's have more upper mids (1khz to 3khz), so they "Scream" more and have that midrange-y spaciness 3. Fat 60's have more lower mids attack (when you said in your video you get more attack) -- that bubbly type of pick attack is more on the fat 60's and i love that lots 4. The fat 60's are the more modern sounding pickup, more compressed and more scooped sounding. The scoop in the middle mids to upper mids makes it much "cleaner" -- what i'm talking about is very obvious in the clean example you made at 5:20 - Fat 50's sound spacey and 1.5 khz-y, while the fat 60's sound totally scooped and bubble like.
This is actually one of the first videos where I can hear the difference between "chimey" (fat 50s) and "woody" (fat 60s). Well done!

Hi, thanks for your comparison video. I really wanted the Fat 50's before watching your video, but I'm now I'm getting confused. Should I get a Fat 60's to sound like John Frusciante. (It sounder more alike John Frusciante's tone using Fat 60's in your video.) Which do you recommend if I want to sound like Blood Sugar Sex Magik's Frusciante's tone? (Before watching to this video, I was planning to buy the Fat 50's because of the reputation.) Anyway, thank you for your comparison video!! Cheers!!
@@bobtake the 2 are not far away from each other I play with 50s a bunch of rhcp stuff and no one cares, but in my personal opinion after having both the 60s is more John's sound.
@@MarceloDurham Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I felt that too, they are not far away from each other. Still can’t make up my mind because I was obsessed to the Fat 50s before listening to your video but I think I’m gonna make it a try for the Fat 60s. Thanks for your help😄👍✨
@@bobtake any of the two I'm sure you love it they both sound great. Best picks ups on the market for the money in my opinion. #mfilesband
@@MarceloDurham I heard you play Fat 60s on your Sqiuer Mustang but that tone was definitely John’s tone. Especially on If You Have to Ask. I do agree to your opinion that they are both best pickups on the market for our money. Thanks again for your gentle reply and your nice videos🙌✨
Cara.
Caramba Man! Seu inglês é awesome! If you didn’t say anything i would say you’re a gringo for sure. Great video n playing as well cheers!
Hahahaha valeu cara obrigado pelo apoio e pelo comentário!!! Seja vem vindo ao canal. Eu tenho outro canal tb Marcelo Durham BR vale mencionar! Haha abraço!
Interested in using ssl-3 / fat 60s / fat 50s as my particular set. I'm now questioning whether or not to switch the fat 60s and the fat 50s. Please help...anybody.
what help do you need?
@@MarceloDurham I think I was drunk when wrote this. I guess I would like to know if said combo would work?
Great video! you convinced me to buy the 50s. But why don't you use them also in the bridge position? are the 65s so much better sounding then the 50s in the bridge?
i just got one pick up on a store it was used but in perfect condition I had the full set 65 already on .. i liked it a lot so I kept it for me the bridge sounds just like that frusciante bridge sound so I just down to change. but I'm sure the 50's on the bridge is great too..
A / B samples starts at: 2:50
Thank you for your nice video
Yeah the pickup sound very similar and I think you're right to like the FAT 50
PS : ohhhh :) :) I just saw that little mustang ahah It would be nice to do an A/B with it too
@@Aniki82 glad you liked the video! And thanks fot the comment! Cheers!
what are you plaing into? Amp wise?
Vox mv50Ac ..
I’d be curious to hear a comparison of the bridge pickups… I love by fat 50’s in the middle and neck but hate my bridge, I have an FS-1 to put in the bridge which I haven’t gotten around to yet.
On the bridge i have the pure vintage 65
I have my Teles and Strats wired with a bridge-only tone control. Always roll back the tone on the bridge to fatten the tones.
@@PaulSter my tele is “normal” but on my strat one of the tones is set for the bridge pickup..
What fuzz pedal did you use at the end? Sounds very nice!
Fuzz rite or a big muff not sure it been a long time maybe both together
What fuzz is that??
is a Chinese bass fuzz king of a fuzz factory deal ..
Via the conduit of RUclips, my ears are liking the Fat '50s
@@scarcam me playing it too.. 😅
Fat 60s with steel baseplates are amazing.
You have a 7 1/4" radius fingerboard?
Not its a 10 radius by this time in recente times I`ve chance this guitars neck for a 7 1/4 yes .. but not at the time of this video.
thanks for the comment!
@@MarceloDurham The staggered poles are better suited to 7 1/4", you won't get wolf tones.
Awesome playing thag RHCP tune. It’s hard to choose which ones are better
Nice playing. Definitely prefer the Fat 50s.
Thanks man!! And yeah me too prefer the 50th too..
I think they both are great and totally represent the era of pickups. The fat 50’s are bright and full like 50’s strats. The fat 60’s sound like… guess what? 60’s strats lol. I’ve had both and I love the fat 60’s for their breakup
Agreed but I learned buy doing this that I prefer 50s strat.. when all my life i believed I liked the 60s guitars more, but that was just me let marketing infect my brain.
Totally agree with you :D @@MarceloDurham
Thanks for this, I thought the Fat 50's have more "depth" of sound if that makes any sense, also a sweeter tone
Yep.. it does... for me at least.
Hi, Im interested about your guitar gear, amp on this video. Nice sound and concious upgrades. Best
Mooer blues crab, joyo ac tone, tc hall of fame .. into the mbox woth pro tools a bit of EQ AND COMPRESSION.
nice video. Ty.
is it just me or do the fat50s sound more tele pickups than strat pickups
Hahahahahah thats a first ... i think fender has been try to make tele neck pickups sound like strats for so long now that you have been misled to think that..
50s are chimes, 60s are bells
Hahahaha perfect..
Minor to my ears. One can make magic with either ( not me though LOL)
U made a mistake by not adding in the noisless 4 latest gen.
Hahaha you made a mistake with this comment cause I have them on my other strat..
Great video!
Thanks D. Lord!!!
for fruciante 60 lol
Yep but fot that already have the 65 pure vintage..
Prefer the fat 60s - sweeter warmer less glass / treble
Saberia me explicar…
Thanks a lot
The 50’s are more articulate sounding
Yep
Maybe into his amp! But what amp is it?
@@Cheguebuddha joyo ac tone into protools
It’s the focus on trebles that makes them sound more clear
50s made for maple fingerboard, 60s for rosewood.
😅😂 LOL
The Fat 50s have a warmer tone.
Yep..
So would you say the fat 50’s was mid-scooped and the fat 60’s was more balanced?
balanced is not the best word because for my "balance" I prefer the de fat 50s hahaha but yeah more mid and attack on the 60s ... the 50s is more mellow ..
I just don’t want to go the the trouble of upgrading to the 50s and have ‘one that got away’ syndrome about the 60s ones. Literally the only comparison I’ve found is this video.
To clarify: the thing I like about the 60s one is the high e and b strings sounded less harsh to me when you played under the bridge. It’s possible the bite of the mids isn’t coming through as much on the video and I’d find out the hard way that I don’t like it as much as I thought I would.
@@williamnichols6253 honestly i believe that anyone can be happy with any of these pickups 50's or 60's both sound great..
and also my set up is one my preamp in this video is a vox preamp .. so in a different amp will also make a big difference, on my everyday use I have a blues breaker type pedal on all the time to give some more compression and some mids.. so it is al about adjusting you overall sound as well..
@@MarceloDurham Thanks!
Dude, just keep the Fat 50s. If you want the Fat 60s sounds, put an EQ in the signal chain before hitting your amp. If you want pop, add a compressor.
The 50’s have lower output and higher character for me.
I would not say lower output just less mids if you measure them it's quite similar..
@@MarceloDurham ok fair enough 👍
The Fat 50s sound better to my ears.
Yep mine too
let say 60 fat then 50 normal alnico 3 whill be còol
Yeah maybe some 54 mix with the fat 60that wold be cool.
💜👍
Fat 50s sound like a Fender Strat. The 60s sound like most other electric guitars!
Fat 50s FTW
I think the 60 are rounder and not sooo chiny,,but they bouth work great,,i get mine 69 today,,cant wait,,but need,,i got the body to pimped up with some Red Flake,,cant wait
Soubds cool! The 69 as really good!! My friend has them..
But I believe the the fat50 as more "round sound" .. for my ears. :)

I like the fat 60's more. And respectfully i do not agree with your assessment about their frequency charts. I used logic to even check.
1. Fat 50's quite definitely have more top end, they are brighter pickups
2. Fat 50's have more upper mids (1khz to 3khz), so they "Scream" more and have that midrange-y spaciness
3. Fat 60's have more lower mids attack (when you said in your video you get more attack) -- that bubbly type of pick attack is more on the fat 60's and i love that lots
