    Anyone else notice how surprisingly good the lighting is in the room this time?

      What I did notice was how utterly terrible practically everything played through it sounded...that's not to say this is always the case with what Chappers plays/demos - not at all. But the sound here - for whatever the reason - is absolutely atrocious...

    My dream is to have a Gibson Flying V going into a tube screamer driving the crap out of a classic vintage Marshall head on top of two 1960 cabinets (one angled one baffled) and destroying everything around me

    I remember when I bought G3 live in Tokyo and Satriani came out to do his set, starting with a little jam before "Up In Flames". The clean sounded so amazing, and then when he kicked the distortion on for the beginning riff I was totally in love. I asked "what kind of amp is he using - I want one!". It was the JSX.
    Luckily, years later, after they where discontinued I found a used JSX half stack in guitar center for $800. Best purchase of my life. And I must say, that amp sounds so much better.

    I really love your Joe Satriani story. I always imagine that he would be that way. I've seen all these clips of him in interviews and he just seems like a pretty down to earth person. That's cool man.

    Its awesome seeing and hearing Chappers talk about Satch with a giddy grin on his face. He is my favourite artist/guitar player and I wouldn't have picked up a guitar if it wasn't for him. Always with me, Always with you is going to be the first dance song at my wedding.

    Another thing about the Satriani Head is that all channels in all modes work well--incredibly flexible, nice-sounding.The Crunch channel in the Amber mode sounds a great deal like the 6100 at full volume and full gain (even though they call it the "AFD Mode" in the Manual). After using this head as an everyday-driver for nearly seven years, for me, the Crunch channel in the Amber mode is home base, with a 250 ms slap-back delay from an Eventide Eclipse. Very nice sound, like Steve Lukather. I also use the OD1 Channel in Red mode, tweaked and dialed-back so that I can switch between custom shop guitars with EMG active pickups and a Les Paul with Custom Shop Gibson Hum-bucking pickups, and a Deluxe "Telemacaster" Thinline with Gen 4 Fender Noiseless pickups. I can merely switch channels without fiddling with guitar or stage volume. And, the choke that precedes the output transformer allows this amp to sound great at reasonable volume levels, if necessary. :)

    I remember queuing for a Satch gig years ago in London, and Joe pulled up outside the venue in a black cab, cut through the queue where I was standing and I grabbed his hand and shock it, almost blubbing like a little girl! At least we have heroes with talent...

    I bought this amplifier in September 2015, and, yeah, buddy! it rocks. I haven't even fully explored the entire range of settings four-months-in, because I am especially drawn to the "Crunch" Channel in the "Amber" mode--AFD-voicing. I also have the EL34-version of the 6100 (1992) 30th Anniversary head. There is something especially sweet in the voicing of the Red Channel of the EL34-loaded 6100 that can't be found in this amplifier. Even so, the Satriani Head is incredibly versatile and punchy: I have not one complaint about any of the channels or modes. In short, this head can give many of the much more expensive "salon" amplifier heads a run for their money, especially in terms of providing a wide-range of Marshall sounds that are all highly "useable." Like the 6100, the JVM410HJS sounds great at reasonable volume settings. And, should you want to play on a vast outdoor stage on occasion, this amplifier is capable of achieving eviction-notice volume-levels. ;) This is--by far--the loudest freaking Marshall that I've owned--in a good way. :D

    • @larrytate1657

      Would u recommend I go for the satriani model or the regular jvm410 for light to heavy rock and funk rock?

    • @thomassmith7608
      @thomassmith7608 8 лет назад +1

      The Satriani Head is a far better choice than the JVM410H, in my view: The Satriani Head has much richer character than the standard JVM410H, and the Satriani Head has all of the flexibility of the standard JVM 410H, and then some. The JVM410HJS is the nicest head that Marshall has made since the 6100 30th Anniversary Head in 1992, and it offers great tones and is punchy, as well.

    More videos of these guys we watch more we see how much the sound comes from the guitarist's fingers. By far these demo videos do not sound even close to the great musicians who use these equipment and who brought us here. These videos also encourage us to seek our own sound/style! Great video and amp buddies!! You got my like!

  • @PRSguy94
    @PRSguy94 11 лет назад

    Think of it this way, that's probably how they developed the amp, with Joe's setup, and Joe's ear. So you're getting the little bit of tone coloration that occurs with stuff like that. It's like playing an EVH 5150 through a Marshall cabinet. It may have the same speakers, but it will sound different.

    I have a JVM410h and I never really thought of getting a noise gate. If I ever do, the boss noise suppressor works. I also really like having the reverb on the amp... wouldve been a nice change if Satch had a spring reverb thrown in opposed to the studio verb on the standard 410.

    great review! I bet that thing would be a monster cranked up. i take it the Satchurator is a more modern replacement for Joe's usage of the DS-1, back in the day? That's what he had on the floor when i saw him in the 80's (DS-1)

    The cleans tones left a bit to be desired but the noise gate was probably my favorite part. It's really hard to get a good decay and natural feel to a noise gate, but this one seemed to do just fine.
    It's probably a bit too much for me but I like this amp's sound way better than the JSX peaveys

    I love my Marshall JVM! My Fender American Strat gets the Jimi Hendrix Marshall tone no problem with very little tweaking. My ESP Eclipse gets a breathtaking Les Paul Marshall tone, and my PRS CE 24 is just the scary perfect guitar for this amp, period, all day long. I don't give a fuck about Satriani, so you can pick up a JVM without his specs for less. The Marshall JVM is an amazing amp! The green OD 1 channel will give you all the gain you need for hard rock.

    What it comes down to is "do YOU like the sound". As other comments mention, an amp's sound will be changed by a PA system, by sitting it in a mix with other instruments, by recording it and making it a digital image and then by compressing, delaying, reverberating it and by adding modulation effects. Then it will be slightly altered again in the mastering process. I look at 1 guitar & 1 amp. How does that sound, respond, scream, get pretty and dirty WITHOUT PEDALS? Me & the amp - good or bad?

    Not many people will just run a guitar into an amp, they'll have boosts, modulation effects, wahs, etc, all sorts. There are plenty of demos out there that showcase the amp, these guys showcase all sorts of gear in real-life scenarios, how you'd actually run a rig live or in the studio.
