That looks like no hair loss or recession to me. When I was age 18, I already had a big V shaped hairline (Norwood 3). By the time I was age 24-25, I was (Norwood 6), lost all the hair on top. However the sides and back are still dense enough (no see through). My first hair transplant was a disaster. My 2nd procedure was significantly better. Covered 40% of the scalp. Currently I am 28 and have been wearing cap since age 20 and shaving it down to 0 until I had 2 transplants. But you are one lucky man!
I am sorry to hear about your struggles. Did the transplants leave scars?
Yes I have 2 linear scars at the back of my head, so now I am having problems shaving my head after my surgeries. So my best options are to have multiple strip surgeries and use hair fiber or Dermatch for thick density. This might take a few years before I get to look my age. Its funny because my dad has great hair upto mid scalp (Native hair), but he is bald on the crown. However looks like Hair Cloning is around the corners. If we can grow human hair on mice, then sooner of later Cloning will be available for us humans and hair loss should be a thing of the past!

NW 1 isn't balding. Many children don't have NW 0, David Schwimmer hairlines. NW 2 often isn't considered balding either, but it's debatable. But you're probably right, in your somewhat unusual case, you were slowly receding from age 18 onward. Your grandpa definitely didn't look like a NW 4 either, NW 3 most likely, but I'm watching on several beers and on double speed so I could be mistaken!

nick if your son goes bald and wants to get a hair transplant to boost up his confidence would you let him?
Hair transplants are usually ill-advised in men under 25. And they're certainly a bad idea in all minors. So the question probably isn't relevant, as his son will be an adult before that comes up. I'm sure he'll make a video out of it anyway, though.
Perhaps a more interesting question would be: if his son were really going bald fast as a minor, say at age 15-16 which is rare but it does happen, would he allow him to treat his hair loss with Rogaine, Propecia, etc? Neither treatment is approved for minors but they can be permitted if the parent allows it, I believe.

I am now 100% sure that the same things that cause migrane headaches causes hair loss. You don't have to believe me but I know I am right about this. People will begin to realize this at some point in the future.

I dont know what youre doing now but you should use minoxidil before it's too late. Minoxidil reverses early male pattern baldness and keeps it at bay
