Ten Years After… Note: best album: “Watt”! And Ten Years After guitarist Alvin Lee was only second to Jimmy Hendrix in their awesomely electrifying performances at the original 1969 “Woodstock” music festival! To this day I can still replay his entire Medley of “I’m Going Home” in my head… 🎼 “Ohh baby… 🎵Look out babe, 🎵I’m comin’ to get you, 🎵one more time… 🎶I’m going home🎶… Another big hit for Ten Years After that you may have heard- was their ethereal track “I'd Love to Change the World”!!
Of course, we know of the band Ten Years After they were one of the highlights of the Woodstock festival. They are very famous for the song I love to change the world from 1970. And he, Alvin Lee was a big time friend of George Harrison, who you should’ve known.
My mind froze when you mentioned Alvin Lee. 'Watt' and esp 'Stonehenge' are still among my favorite albums, from my old cassettes to the CDs I cling to now. "Here me callin' ...." btw, I can't live without Lydia. 🙂
I would definitely live in these houses , they’re so beautiful !! And yes I definitely know the band Ten Years After , they were great . Alvin was great at Woodstock, that’s where I first heard him and a very good friend of George’s !! Those estates were really beautiful but it seems l started to and others also to talk about Alvin Lee instead lol !!! The houses were really great and unbelievably so beautiful !!! The houses and grounds were unbelievable and so many things that were so amazing is what I would love to see and live in of course !! They were meant to live in so I would live in any of them !!!! ❤️❤️
What's amazing to me is that people seem to think that GH was the only one who could afford to live in a mansion like Friar Park in 1970, but so many of these estate were dirt cheap because no one could afford them, and so many of these people lived much better than GH did prior to him buying Friar Park. Eric Clapton live din a mansion before GH, and so did Alvin Lee who so many people never even heard of. It would be nice if the opportunities at fair prices to buy these mansions still existed.
This was a really nice collection of estates. I would love to have any of them except I wouldn’t live in current day England. The other problem with owning massive homes is that you must have staff to take care of the voluminous amount of cleaning and maintenance that would be required. And homes that large, along with their grounds would require large staffs. That would mean that you would never be alone. There would always be someone, somewhere, doing the work or shagging your wife. Or sleeping in the bushes. It would be up to you, Lord of the Manor, to administer proper discipline or chastisement to these employees. To hire and fire and put up with. I think that’s a big price to pay for having such an estate. To me, the most precious thing for a creative person is alone time. I’ll bet none of these people ever had that. Other than that, to have that amount of space would be truly glorious. To be able to live with the fragrance of antiquity all around you would be the penultimate. To walk amongst the gardens and find a nice place to sit and read Alice In Wonderland while looking up on occasion at the sunlit flowers swaying in the gentle breeze, winking at you whilst you take a sip of strawberry tea,........now that’s living. 🐇🐇🐇☂️🐇🐇🐇
Yes, a big staff if required, but it seems to me that people who can afford estates like this would likely not spend too much time in them, and if they did they'd be used to having so many people around. And might even like it. There is so much wealth these days it would be interesting if the trend of acquiring any of these fabulous estates would return. At the very least, it's cool that many are being turned into bed and breakfasts.
Just because these homes would require a lot of care, that does not mean others would have to be around at all times. Maybe they had cooks, but they wouldn't have to have them there cooking every day, etc. Security could be outside the house, so the owners could have the house to themselves whenever they wanted.
You'd have to be rolllllling in dough just to pay the heating bills on these joints I know Wyman is a metal detector guy...I love prospecting for gold...Bill can do anything he wants with his time... he's discovered how fun the hunt is.
I regularly cycle past Hook End Manor. I should imagine it's expensive to maintain. Also very gloomy on the inside. Don't think I would want to live there😢

Trevor Horn was also in Yes
Yes, he was. I almost mentioned that but ... then I thought ... next time. :)

I'm glad mentioning him has brought back some fond memories. I'll check out his music.
YES of course Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. Lee was a brilliant but underrated guitar player, devoted to the blues (and playing the riffs fast). RIP.

Anyone who knows anything about great guitarists knows who Alvin Lee was. Plus Ten Years After was a huge band in the late 60's early 70's.
Nope. Never heard of Ten Years After. But I’d still buy and live in any of those places. They’re all pretty cool! 🤩
Obviously, you never saw the movie Woodstock, which featured the band doing the classic song coming home

Back in the 80's these people could walk around Henley & nobody would bother them, think thats why they liked that pocket of UK.

10 Years After was a great band, made great records and Alvin Lee was as good as it gets, saw them about 4 times
That's cool! 4 times. I'm gonna check them out.
Yes, I know ten years after and Alvin Lee.
can't believe you haven't heard of alvin lee and ten years after, you must be on the younger side
Ten years after. We're know them very well!
,
It’s crazy how relatively affordable these places were. If that home went for 16 mil in 2006, imagine what it’d cost today
Watch the 1969 movie of Woodstock music festival… Alvin Lee stole the show with his performance…!!!
You should watch the Woodstock movie - you would see David Gilmore and Ten Years After on stage in the movie of the event.
David Gilmore is in Woodstock film? - I don't recall pink floyd playing there
ten yeas after were on Woodstock movie. I used to listen but ---grew out of it I reckon
You'd have to be rolllllling in dough just to pay the heating bills on these joints I know Wyman is a metal detector guy...I love prospecting for gold...Bill can do anything he wants with his time... he's discovered how fun the hunt is.
I have several vinyl album´s by "Ten Years After", a progressive rockband flirting with psychedelic music.
I regularly cycle past Hook End Manor. I should imagine it's expensive to maintain. Also very gloomy on the inside. Don't think I would want to live there😢
That opening/background music is most inappropriate for this video's topic. Please choose more wisely as you progress in your journey as a creator.
Enjoyed the pictures, thx.
None of those homes were appealing....to me. Especially the first one in the water.
