    My problem with the NHI for SA is the fact that the Tax is going to be increased drastically. The issue of Dr Cedric saying people are paying R8000 a month on Medical Aid and that they would save money because it will cost them less in tax is not the main point of the people complaining, it is a point but not the only one. You are asking people to pay much higher tax so that everyone can have access to ALL hospitals, no sir, people who don't pay tax or cant afford medical aid have the Government hospitals to their disposal. Just to note i am a tax payer, yes i am working BUT i cant afford medical aid NOR a hospital plan therefore i have been going to Government hospitals for my Scopes and Scans etc. I don't believe it to be fair on other people to be taxed higher for other peoples benefits. Yes i would love for private hospitals to be cheaper for everyone including myself but then re work the system another way, i don't know what or how but its not fair or right to ask other people to take the brunt for people who don't have jobs, dont pay tax, cant afford private care etc, that's why we have the government hospitals, for people like MYSELF who cant afford private care.

    • @devinfarmer3140
      @devinfarmer3140 13 дней назад

      Otherwise if NHI is approved then before you are accepted into a "Private Hospital" now funded by NHI one has to produce proof of a tax number and an approved SARS tax certificate that is up to date! Failing to do that you then will be declined access to the doctors and treatment at that hospital and one must make use of the "Government hospitals" like before. That is the only way i can see any "fairness". And again i am someone using the government system.

    We are a country of 57 million people. 32.9% of employable people are unemployed. Besides the R3.3 billion a month to covid 19 recipients, we also support the many welfare benefits. There are 7.14 million taxpayers in South Africa. No wonder industries are being liquidated. People are leaving our country and we have to pay more tax. What a failed government, corrupt leaders, and a shameful and disgraceful leader. So, based on the facts above, explain to me how this will be funded?

    In this interview, Dr Sihlangu says that the 'private' health care sector is currently highly subsidised by the state. As far as I understand it, the private sector is largely funded through individual contributions to medical aid schemes or health insurance, so I have no idea where he gets this idea from. Private hospitals, individual medical practitioners and specialists are run and taxed as businesses.
    14% of South Africans are currently on medical aid schemes and the balance of the population rely on public hospitals and clinics. If the government's grand plan is to somehow extort the money from the 14% who are paying for their medical aid and pump it into the public sector then they're smoking their socks. People will simply stop paying.
    He talks about pooling all the money going into both the private and the public sector but lets be honest, the average person currently paying for private medical aid is NOT going to just hand over their hard earned cash to the NHI in addition to their current taxable income.
    So the question remains: How do they propose funding it???

      You realise for this to work to favour everyone comes from the tax payers right? Also to remind you that unemployment is practically more than 60% so there's not a lot of taxpayers to foot the bill to pay for everyone else. You're asking for a small group of people, who's already struggling just to get by and who's taxes are already being used and mismanaged, to pay for the whole country? In order to do this you'll need to increase tax tremendously which will lead to everything becoming more expensive. This will also encourage more people to leave, more taxpayers to leave and drying up the tax pool.
      South Africa doesn't have the ability to afford this and it just simply won't work

The economy overall isn't strong. Doctors will be able to offer their services overseas at a much higher income because they studied long and hard to get there and won't accept peanuts. I think even though we might be able to sustain it for a short while, it will lead to the death of the economy if many other areas don't improve.
