Many years ago Roger Cook and his brother stayed in my Hotel, The Golden Lion down in Ashburton in Devon England. Of course we got talking about music, he told me then that his favourite song writer was John Prine. He then asked who mine was, I told him Tom T Hall, he was amazed that I had ever heard of him ! Think his brother was called George, if I remember rightly !
Roger & John also wrote "Love is on a roll" for Don Williams! I've known both of them for decades. Roger even produced an album on me, & I opened for John on tour in the late 80's. Both FINE folks!
Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, (along with Madoline Bell) were Blue Mink in the 60s' and 70s'. Songs such as, bannerman, melting pot, good morning freedom etc.
Roger C. & Roger G. wrote The Hollies hit "Long cool woman in a black dress,& "I'd like to teach the world to sing", among lot's of others if you remember back that far. Cook also wrote "I believe in you" for Don Williams, & tons of other great songs!
When the guy in the white shirt started to sing I had to do a double take because just for a moment I thought that it was Jimmy Buffett. His voice sounds so much like Jimmy's and the song sounds like something that he would have sung. It's beautiful. And to John Prine... thank you for the music, the magic, and the memories. You will not be forgotten.
Has anyone heard of the song "Just wanna be with you" by John Prine? There only seems to be the lyrics of it on the internet. Has anyone got the mp3 song?
You are correct. John released it in 1986. There were several other renditions released by other artists, and 12 years later, in 1998, Georgia's performance was released.
George's recording is terrific, but it was released 12 years after John Prine's recording. Several other renditions of the song were also recorded during that 12-year interim before george. I'm wondering whether it would be correct to refer to it as having been written for George Strait?
If you listen to, and think about the lyrics, this is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
Love it!
A group of legends rite there, Phil Coulter on the keys is also one of Ireland's most successful artists internationally. Respect .
RIP John and PD .

I believe John Prine can sing any song and make it special.
