Excellent review, agree with you on a lot of points. The cinematography is top notch which is expected from Eggers but despite how bloated the movie is in terms of length you nailed it about how quick it switched from one character to the next without any added depth or character arcs. Ellen was the only to really get that attention throughout the movie. Also agree about Herzog's 79 version, despite myself just discovering it for the first time a month or so ago i immediately bought the bluray for it. WIth Eggers version i dont have any desire to do that.
Yes as much as I am a vampire film fan i have to be honest when I do my reviews. I say how I feel and this was still an amazing movie, but it's negatives and due to these negatives I doubt it will be as remembered as the 1979 version has for many years.
Just seen this in theatres and think it's great. Very dark and full of erie gothic tones and the cinematography is world class. Unlike Francis Ford Coppola Bran Stoker's Dracula which was a gothic love story this is pure horror. It has its issues but still think it deserves all the accolades it's recieveing. Nice review 👌
I agree with oarlock I ultimately like the design and it grew on me in the context of the film but I do feel it makes you feel more uncomfortable in the way of diseased corpse would rather than a vampire
Great honest review and agree take away Robert Eggers style and this film would be very long and my interest would have left. Great effort but not the epic it's being made out to be.

That's something that I appreciate about the film is you don't see The Count in full till the end.
Thanks for watching my brother 🙏 ❤️

Thanks for watching 😃
I would describe it as Nosferatu expanded it hits all the beats of the original yet it gives certain elements more context

I agree with most of what you said but I still stand by flawed masterpiece I love it but it does have some problems I can't overlook
It's still a great film, but I unfortunately could not deny the issues, or I would not be being true to myself or giving an honest review

1979 version still my favourite 😃
