As an untrained sewer who has learned how to sew out of necessity because I’m 6’ tall and wanted my clothes to fit me, I can appreciate that this project was a lot of work!!! it is so much harder to try to sew something from scratch, without a pattern at all, then it would be to use pattern. And then the making of your video!!! That was such a huge project too!! You are definitely a professional project manager!! Very nice job and both the jacket and the video!! ❤👍🏼
@@szatkown So true! There really are so many unexpected challenges in “cloning clothes”! Lots of guesswork around how a garment was constructed, esp. for someone like me who’s still figuring it all out! When it works out, the fit can be better than a regular pattern bc you know it already did! But there’s always the risk that it won’t 😅 Thanks for acknowledging the video element, too! Sewing, filming, (learning/making mistakes while filming it all), editing, etc. makes it all feel more tedious than if I was just sewing. But so happy if I can help others learn and maybe be inspired! 💕
@@GoldeeLoxs thank you so much! I hesitated to show everything in case people just wanted a regular tutorial, but yes! A lot of learning comes from the mistakes! Thanks so much for watching 💕
Oooh a Viking sewing machine. From the 80s? Nice machine. Edit: Also i wanted to add that clover seam ripper is a HUGE time saver. Such a great seam ripper.
Yes! The sewing machine has been a workhorse! My mom got it as a wedding gift and she gave it to me to learn on. So it’s extra special in that way. 💕 But it’s also metal and very sturdy! My friend gave me that Clover seam ripper as a gift when I first said I wanted to learn to sew…which was about 5 years before I actually did 😂 Proof that it can eventually happen even if it feels like it never will!
Love this ! Simple, TO THE POINT video! 😊 Love that you were normal, not trying to be a cute tik toker, didn't make your voice rough like a valley girl, you never clicked nails on anything, didnt do fake beauty poses, no duck lips, no filters.... this video was super refreshing! Thank You! Loved the jacket! Loved the honesty! Loved it was simple, to the point and NO cute look at me "influencer" vibes. Bravo! New subscriber!🎉
@@janetlarsen8072 Appreciate the kind words! I think I retired my duck lips poses in 2009 😂 Glad you enjoyed the honesty! Figured if I showed my mistakes, others could hopefully learn from them too! Thanks for watching! 💕
More comments from me lol. I love this video, I am at the same spot in experience as you and I love that you show your struggles and mistakes. It makes me feel so much better. I make so many "oops" that i thought I was just not good at sewing. But seeing it from the other side I just see you as a tallented creative person who is also extremely industrious. That gives me a little more confidence in my self. 😊
@@gabie8075 That’s so amazing to hear! I’m glad it helps seeing the mistakes! I wasn’t sure whether that would be useful or not, but there was so much trial and error in the process, I figured why not show what really happened! I’m so thrilled this could help you! 💕
And not only did you make a jacket out of a sleeping bag but you also made a very detailed video on the entire process and a social media video to boot. WOW!! My question is how did you get the time lapse shot of the sleeping bag going up your body for the beginning of the Instagram video??
@@austynsteelman Thank you! ❤️ I just reversed the playback of that clip in Premiere! So selected the clip and clicked Command + R and then chose Reverse Speed! Basically shot myself dropping the sleeping bag and then reversed it so it looks like it’s going up!
Gods, i wish second hands sold things like that here. I would have loved to make my own jacket since i always feel like a whale in the ones they sell lol . And it would be so much easier knowing your mistakes!
I totally agree, flattering winter jackets are hard to come by off the rack! If you want to see my mistakes in all their glory 😆 I have a full process video here: ruclips.net/video/nsIsiD1tzow/видео.html
@@myfootballtravels I’m not making to sell at the moment, but the request is a great compliment! I’ll let you know if that changes! Thank you for watching 🙏

Such an awesome video!! Love that you kept all the mistakes! It’s an excellent help to all of us learning along with you.

Considering your lack of experience - it looks great!
Your jacket turned out really cute. I love watching your process.
