The ultimate type 2 fun is the roads trips with young kids where there are too many logistics and too many things go wrong….but man when you flip that photo calendar to Feb 2024 in a years time the pictures sure hold sweet memories.
Damn peeps, amazing ride ladies! Welcome to the amazing desert riding! Raised two kids in VT. Left in 15, Taos NM now home. Loved seeing vermonters crush it!
Your crash was no joke, I'm pretty sure I was one of the folks who walked out from our camp to make sure you were alright. Im Glad it wasn't worse than it was. Heal up man. Also great work hauling the kids out there, that might be more challenging than 24 hours of racing, Cheers
Speaking of "off course", I crashed on my gravel bike in Saguaro National Park East (a couple miles from my house) here in Tucson when the trail abruptly went downhill, off-camber and loose gravel over hard pack and was on Rene Herse Barlow Pass tires which slid out instantly. Got a palm full of thorns from a prickly pear cactus at ground level that I stiff-armed to break my fall. That sucked a bit. Try to avoid the chollas, they're worse lol.
Took our dog to 24hop this year and poor thing ended up with fox tails embedded in his paws, but, thigh. $900 vet appointment with surgery and antibiotics for 10 days, eye drops ever 6 hours (had a fox tail in eye) and pain meds later. Lessons were learned. Yikes. So fun but so hard. Son took second in corporate category.
Cracked ribs and that DNF, that's a heavy price to pay, hurts to hear that, Ted. And what's the future of protective gear for these events? I'd think anyone not actually paid to ride and represent should suit up somewhat like a motocross rider so that falls are more an embarrassment than costly injury.
ugh!! desert crashes, thorns on everything, need pliers painful, always one more, picking out gravel bits for weeks, "soft" looking trails are way way harder...cool scenery though
Love the bike design ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and functionality. It is hard to align the front tired to center the disk brakes. The brake wheel touches the stationery side of the brake caliper and pad. I aired the tire up to 40 psi as the markings say 40-60psi. Left the house for a few hours and came back to an exploded innertube. All in all it seems to be a good bike. Have not ridden it yet though so that's the max of my knowledge. Update, put a new innertube made sure the tire was set properly and it did the same thing in under 20 minutes as second pic shows.

Great VLOG Ted! Shows all the good and the not-so-good of a weekend like that!
You got that right. Don’t even show you the real nitty gritty. But that’s only cause I don’t have images of the X-rays or hospital shots. 🫣
@@TedKing1 FWIW, you made the right decision turning back on that muddy road. We didn’t and almost rolled the van.
