Billy is a brilliant guitarist. He adds so many layers, you really listen for all of the little things he adds. The Noose is a good example--which also has killer drums.
The ring modulation effect in this song is one of the best utilisations of that effect, imo... it’s neither “awkward” nor “terrible”! 😒 Ring mod can sound terrible if it’s just ‘thrown on’ but this track uses it very well.
Man I am so glad I found your channel. I think you are just as obsessed with tool and APC as I am. I bought a guitar fifteen years ago and play pretty much exclusively those two bands. Apc has influenced my entire life, and I feel very very attached to their music. To be able to play The Hollow correctly is amazing, thanks to you. Would you ever consider doing Weak and Powerless?
Have you seen their new Pro Mod DK24? I have the Pro Mod So Cal, white with black pick guard. I also have a Jackson Adrian Smith that looks pretty much exactly like it, except it has HSS and the Charvel has HH. German Floyd in the Jackson, Korean Floyd in the Charvel, although the Korean one seems to be just as good. I can't knock those two guitars out of tune.
Don't want to promote my stuff or anything, but you should check out my bass tab cover of The Remedy. Also got other songs like Galileo and Grand Canyon.
As far as the lead part over the verse (around the 4 minute mark of this video), that isn't how Billy plays it at all. He did a guitar center riff lords bit and The Hollow is the first song he did. He plays the lead much higher on the neck and really crawls up and down the fretboard. With the massive reverb he uses it sounds so epic. ruclips.net/video/64IzbxVpV2E/видео.htmlsi=RXoCN9xqkt1il0tE
Really, please, tone tips? Where are the volume and tone knobs on your guitar in this one? Any pedals? I'm listening over and over and it sounds like the volume and tone aren't dimed. Edit: i think I've got something pretty dang close.
4:28 Sorry but i think you're wrong, actual pattern notes are: Bb, F, C, Db, Ab, Eb, Ab, Db, C, F, C, Db, the melody going up from Bb to Eb, then going down from Eb to Db (the last note to be played on the open 6th string!!). You can clearly hear it on several live versions of the song, it's Howerdel's part. And i don't think this difference between what you say and what i hear comes from the second high guitar you're talking about on this part (because i simply don't think there is one), and even if there is, too many notes are different anyway. Am I right? I think you should at least check this out, for it's quite akward for a tutorial to have so many (almost all) wrong notes on one theme.
@@TheLukeGrey yes, juste like he does the album version. how does that even contradict what i say? The theme showed in the video is still totally wrong
Jamie Lee Betts I’m assuming he means that his neck relief isn’t set up for tuning that low so with less tension, the neck will bow less which could give buzz or other issues and also tuning up and down often would mean the neck is regularly bowing and straightening which may not be good for the wood.
@@craigdesilva I tune all of my 6 and 7 string guitars up and down quite often and I've never had an issue with the wood on any of them getting damaged or becoming warped, I routinely check my action / intonation / relief / polish my frets / clean and re-oil fretboard every time I change strings, the only time I have seen a 'bowing' issue with a neck is going from a light set of strings (e.g. 9 to an 11/13), and even then it doesn't cause an issue with the neck and has never messed with the relief unless playing in standard E tuning, which obviously pounds per square inch of pressure is going to have more pounds of string tension on the neck at E Standard tuning, most people however don't tune to E Standard with 'heavy' strings, Stevie Ray Vaughn at one point ran a 74-13 with an unwound G string and none of his necks ever had any bowing issues according to his tech (the neck on Number 1 did however get refretted so many times that the neck was eventually retired because it could not be refretted anymore), if you're running a 42-9 set of strings, you can run all the way down to C# without bowing / relief issues on most guitars just fine without any issue, I recently did on one of my cheap modded Ibanez RG's running 42-9's and it held up just fine.

Would you ever consider doing Weak and Powerless?
Man I love that tone from a strat!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my favorite song of all time
Another cool one to do would be Orestes! That’s a complicated one tho!
That one overall I’d have to say is my fav APC song. It’s just got it all
hell ya highly requested! thanks so much for doing this one cant wait to get into it!!
Thank you for lessons!! Can you do Weak And Powerless next Please?;)
Great job! 🤘 I agree with one of comments below, would love to see you do Orestes, my favorite song by APC. Keep up the good work! 👊
nice lesson! request: Weak and Powerless by A Perfect Circle if possible. It's a great song. Thanks!
That verse riff is a beast, it was always hard me to play cuz I have narrow small hand.
Love the videos from yours I watched! I think you are a good guitar teacher. Thanks and keep it up!
Solid tone! But there's a couple of things Billy plays different, but it's such little difference that it doesn't really matter.
Billy’s modulated lead line is played down near the 12th fret.
Thank you so much for this!
great video as always man!!!!
Did something change in your room/audio? There's a lot of room echo in the last couple videos.
Thank for the feedback. One of my dampers was removed on the far wall. Looks like I'll have to put it back up, thanks again.
Why the fuck have I not seen this or your other APC stuff until now? Damn, well at least I get to binge learn some APC songs. Thanks!
New subscriber here. I watched your downpicking video first, then seen this and decided to sub. Great vids brother
Great lesson as always! I just made an acoustic cover of this song!
That is a very nice guitar. I really like Strats and Super Strats. You should get yourself one of the new Charvels!
I've always been a Fender guy and the new Charvels are really nice.

The Pro Mod San Dimas models look epic :O
Can you upload a tutorial for Three Libras by A Perfect Circle?
Nice tutorial. Could you share how you get that sweet sweet tone?
Greg, would you consider doing some bass lessons on Puscifer songs? Maybe The Remedy?
I'm not sure I'll be touching the Puscifer stuff.
axeofcreation fair enough man, no worries. May I ask why?
TheNamlessEXM
Because covering Les Claypool is like saying Biggie Smalls 3 times while looking in the mirror.

>>>>>>>Weak and Powerless Tilling My Grave Mix
I'm not a great guitartist but the verse lick "most technical part of the song" tab doesn't match what you tell us to do? Am I getting it wrong?
If you dont have a ring modular for the effect what other effect comes closest ?
Now I have to buy another guitar. One for standard one for e flat standard one for drop c and now one for c# standard. Sounds good to me.
First world problems, it's tough man. I like C# standard.
axeofcreation
Yeah....first world problems. I work 7 days a week 12 hours a day at a shipyard. At least I earn it.
A little late for this but...be sure to get a custom cut nut for the string gauges billy uses. Its this most over looked part to getting that sound.
Cool 😊
Can you do a lesson for Breña??!?!

what about that little solo lick? in the chorus
ok, the bass riff solo? is with guitar riff?
?
I somehow can't find the PDFs on the site :/
Log in. Lessons Menu Tab. Scroll down, you'll see them, link TABS.
Fuck yes
Awesome any chance of Magdalena
One of my favorite jams
the package? magdalena?
Hi Greg, what string gauge do you use for c# standard? 12 or 13 maybe?
Either 12s or some sort of Hybrid of 12/13 set.
Nice fender ;)
Thank you!

I'm struggling with the 2nd version of that modulator riff, that 9 to 14 is pretty much max stretch for me. Hate having midget hands :(
Try playing the chord in a position (frets) that you can play it comfortably. Then move down fret by fret, slowly working on stretching out your hand.

I would love to give this song a try, but that tunning will mess up my guitar's neck!
I get that!
why would it affect the neck of your guitar? tuning down to C# creates less tension on the strings thus applying less pressure on the neck.
Jamie Lee Betts I’m assuming he means that his neck relief isn’t set up for tuning that low so with less tension, the neck will bow less which could give buzz or other issues and also tuning up and down often would mean the neck is regularly bowing and straightening which may not be good for the wood.

“Dahalaw”
Second half of The Package
Why not the whole thing? I know it's kinda repetitive, but it would still be cool.
Air Guitar true, just thought the second half would be more fun to play
Yeah true ;)
Not bad. 😉
Verse part is wrong
@9:40 Agreed.
Talktalk please?!!
Let's see what the new album sounds like. My expectations aren't very high.
awesome awesome awesome. Love everything youre doing. But you're not playing it right. awesome as fuck though.
