This was actually Ollie Olsen's project, who is an underground music legend in the 80s and 90s. He wrote the lyrics and music. He actually had already released a few of the songs from the album, including this one, in the late 70s in a more punk style. This collaboration they joked at the time(1989) in interviews that the project gave Michael some street cred and enabled Ollie to eat! Ollie is the long haired guy you see with Michael in the video! The met on the set of Dogs in Space, Room for the Memories from the movie was Ollie's song also.
It's just a re-edited version of the original video with a few recent footages included. The message still resonates 35 years on from its release in 1989.
This album was brilliant - Ollie is a legend and always interesting to hear - it was nice for him to let Michael to tag along. The INXS management team was dead against Michael doing this project and tried to bury the album as much as possible, for fear it might have for INXS's popularity and image at the time.
It would be lovely if you guys put Ollie Olsen's name along with Michael's in that bracket. Ollie's a great artist and a lovely soul. First saw him playing with Rowland S. Howard in Young Charlatans and I did some video work for his next group, Whirlywirld. I don't know where the f*ck that video is. Ollie wrote this tune and produced it. He and Michael got to be good mates as you can see, but this Max Q thing was Ollie's moment in the mainstream.
Monday night by satellite is my favorite song on the album. I also used a line from this album in my senior yearbook quote. we all got to pick a quote, and I used a line from the max Q album. this album is everything to me. michael is everything to me.
I got a collection of Melbourne post-punk music from 70's and 80's and Ollie's work is always a must have. I got an original copy of the first Whirlywirld EP and a CD reissue, and an original press longplay of his late 80's industrial group NO! MAX Q is actually very good if you approach it with an open mind, and I do have an appreciation for Michael Hutchence's contribution to that area of Melbourne music. Not bad for a rockstar from Sydney. Ollie also has a post-MAX Q techno act called Third Eye, which is best remembered for their version of Russell Morris's ''The Real Thing'', which could make a decent ''Who Did It Better''. Monday night by satellite by MAX Q is a cool tune to check (Michael's hot in the video).
"Way of the World" is a song by Australian band Max Q, released in August 1989 as the band's debut and lead single from their debut self-titled album (1989) So you could call it very early 90's.
Never too old to learn! I have heard this before, but for some reason, thought it was By some English synth band, like Tears For Fears or Depeche Mode. Anyway, thats a thumbs up from me.
You really have to acknowledge the main man, Ollie Olsen, a veteran of the Melbourne(?) experimental music scene. This has reminded me that you reacted to something by The Church and commented that they sounded like InXS. My reaction to that was “What are you people taking about?” In the Venn diagram of the Church and InXS, the points of intersection are that they were based in the same city (and maybe shared a dealer), Steve Kilbey dissed InXS and they threatened to beat him up at a festival in Denmark But Way of the World was more like one of Kilbey’s side projects, Jack Frost, with Grant McLennan. Check out Every Hour God Sends, not so much for the subject matter but the feel.
I reckon Michael Hutchence was channeling his inner Midnight Oil with this. I didn't care for it back then but 30 odd years on I dont mind it. Might revisit the dogs in space video again which this was part of the soundtrack from.
a bit of Roger Waters in there too. It wasn't a bad project between a mainstream Sydney rockstar (Michael) and an underground Melbourne artist (Ollie Olsen)
I already knew Michael's non-INXS work, so this didn't come as much of a surprise to me. I just thought he and Ollie could have done something much less conventional and a lot more interesting. This isn't Ollie's best work. Whirlywirl's ''Window to the World'' is a good place to start with Mr Olsen.
couple other things. I will never forgive inxs manager chris for his reaction to this, and neither will I forget andrew's reaction. He acted like a petulant child when michael dared to go off, on an inxs break I might add, and do something else. andrew has to always say. 'I saw michael had a new band' he well knew it was a side project. I do not like the way inxs treated michael. there was jealousy he got most of the attention, and yet when he wanted to branch out there was anger. they needed their "golden goose" as michael's sister said. makes me sick. poor michael.
Nah, I was never on board with this one. For some clarity, this came out in 1989 and was the first single from the album titled ''Max Q'' by Max Q (Michael Hutchence/Ollie Olsen). I didn't mind ''Sometimes'' (recommended by me) and ''Monday Night By Satellite'', but I was never hot for those real talk songs. Can't deny that was part of Michael Hutchence's make-up, so I am glad he went there.🐕
I'm not stupid. I don't need somebody to flash Trump on the screen for me to see the correlation between 1989 and 2016/2024. Timeless or not, this is still in 1989 context and I would like it, at least of this video, to stay that way.
Ollie has a gofundme. I forget the name of the illness he has, but its degenerative, and a cross between parkinson's, MS and dementia. He needs funds for round the clock care. was so sad to hear it.
RIP Ollie Olsen 😢
it's from 89 and it's my favorite thing michael ever did. when I say I adore it that doesn't even begin to describe the entire album.
@@aliarobinson6617 me too
The truth of the world in one song, r.i.p Ollie❤

I feel that song pretty much is Michael playing himself not acting 😢
RIP Hutch & Ollie ❤
Kudos folks for reacting to the most underated and poignant song of any time. RIP Ollie and Michael. liked and subbed love from Australia
It's just a re-edited version of the original video with a few recent footages included. The message still resonates 35 years on from its release in 1989.
Ollie was in the band Whirlywirld with Andew Duffield who later joined Models. Great track, thanks for reacting !
Without OLLIE OLSEN there is no MAZ Q.
OLLIE OLSEN is an Underground legend and a God.
This album was brilliant - Ollie is a legend and always interesting to hear - it was nice for him to let Michael to tag along.

Loved your commentary! Such a good song...
The Drumming is very unique and powerful.
Unfortunately everyone’s in the sh*t, it’s just the depth that varies. This Song feels even more prevalent and prophetic now.
Awesome tune
Max Q is Michael Hutchence from INXS and Ollie Olsen ❤😊
Bucketead is my fave off the album!!!
Never too old to learn! I have heard this before, but for some reason, thought it was By some English synth band, like Tears For Fears or Depeche Mode. Anyway, thats a thumbs up from me.
Another clip Michael appeared on was Motorcycle Baby by Ecco Homo. It also features Sherine from Big Pig. Check it out

He was a fan of The The.
Thanks for reacting I appreciate it ❤😊
Fear, greed and control. Unfortunately we are pawns.
Not bad at all, good for Michael.

Can’t seem to find the Video for this version with the spoken intro and updated Clip, could you share the link?

Can you please react to Sometimes by Max Q ( Michael Hutchence) music video request plz ❤❤❤😊😊😊
You need to do rooms full memories Michael was more than INXS. He hated being rockstar this is the real him

Trumps Fault ,FJB😂😂😂
I vaguely remember the original video. If you didn’t mention the Trump footage I would have thought it was the same video.

Not a big fan of his but this is no bad.
