I really loved the video! It's not often you get such good quality on points of contact and the replays are not at a speed which is confusing on the context of the fight or too fast to see what happened.
I like the extra editing and appreciate the effort that goes into it, fencing is super cool and I'm hoping these blow up so people can learn more about it.
Well done you beautiful man! Love how you and Charlsie are just like nah, let's just not. 10:06, Beau has a nice hit there, great control. 10:43, holy crap David, that was slick my dude!
Great video! The footwork was quite interesting, you seemed to really find your sweet spot towards the end of the tournament. In the beginning you would give up some points because of an overstep that didn't score, but as you got warmed up there was way more control and balance going into your step ins. Great to see, keep it up!
So sad I couldn't make it, I would've loved to have been there! At 4:54, that cover -> leg shot -> afterblow cover is one of the slickest things I've ever seen. Chef's kiss perfection!
5:58 Bo vs. David Aka David vs goliath Great video, love watching footage like this, and the audio is much nice than in other vids, the camera angle is also great, keeps everyone in the picture with enough room for you all to move around 👍🏽
I'm a fledgling fantasy writer and I watch HEMA videos to fact-check my work. Your channel has always been one of my first go-tos, and I'm really enjoying these longer format sparing videos! The slow-downs recaps and your excellent commentary makes it so accessible and so easy to follow. These are truly such amazing educational pieces! Thank you for doing such amazing work!!
This is surprising. As an outsider/newcomer, I assumed it was a result of people playing the sport and not the martial art. When instructors use paintball or airsoft as a training tool for gunfighting they're hyper vigilant about calling out actions you would not realistically take with the threat of death present. Not to mention, for all the masters that wrote treatises, they had to have won dozens and dozens of duels potentially without being injured in a way that would keep them from being able to fight. All the hand blows would certainly risk ending a career as a duelist.
It's intresting to see how well your "special move" worked (idk if the movd has a name). It looks like you're literally jumping at your opponent, but since you set it up and lead with the edge it often takes them by suprice. Great work!
Great video! This channel is what introduced me to Hema and i'm super interested in it now. Unfortunately there are no hema clubs in my city so I can't practice it myself. But I love watching these videos and look forward to more.
Be the change you want to be. Find some other interested people, and START that HEMA club. Find a spot in a park where you can make a makeshift fencing strip, have standardized gear+facemasks, and play! It's not the easiest thing ever, but social media can help you, and you can always just have everyone bring their own specified gear.
I got to learn a little bit of Kumdo in college and now seeing this is really reinvigorating my interest in learning more about swordfighting. I like the more performance aspects of that but it might be worth checking out if there's a local sword gym so I can do that for exercise
I watched a couple times so I could understand the footwork. As a person interested in HEMA, I have a lot of respect for you, Beau, and Charles. I hope all three of you continue to be great fencers.
Congrats on the W! I'm sure some of that grinding you were talking about in the series of short videos you uploaded had something to do with it. The sparring footage is really fun imo I hope once I move and I'm actually living closer to the HEMA club that is 2 hours away from me currently I could actually get involved in a club.
Your stance switching reminds me of Capoeira! Looks like a tonne of fun, I can tell you're smiling whilst narrating, great channel mate. Much love from NZ. 🥝
Love the editing, and really appreciate the hard work. Also, for further videos, I would love if you kept if you won or lost unanswered until it is revealed in the video. The it could kind of tell a story and build tension through the video.
Congrats on taking the gold, dude! All fencers were awesome fighters, and the fencing footage was quite enjoyable, i recognized some techniques from german longsword, and the extra editing really paid off.
Hello, When you fight 5:57 I think the trouble you are having here is that your opponent is left handed even if reach is a factor as well. I see that most doubles happens as you attack from your left to right if you understand what I mean while Beau as a left handed fencer attacks from right to left. A good example where you can see this is 6:21 when you do the thrust as you raise your arms to defend from a strike from left but because Beau is left handed the strikes comes from your right leaving your head open for a strike. since you are in the same club I would recommend you to spar/train with Beau more to get used to left handed fencers hopefully this unrequested pointer is of help, and congratulations to the first place :D
Yeah, I registered afterwards that he was left-handed. I'm dyslexic, and sometimes that stuff confuses me. I'm fairly used to fencing lefties when it comes to one handed swords, but two headed swords not so much.
@@SellswordArts yea usually when its to late that happens :D what a coincidence I too am dyslexic so I can totally relate to that. anyways amazing work and congratulations again!
Nice editing! BTW, you have the same comment rule twice. Nothing big, just thought you should know. I'd love to see more coll stuff like this from you in the future!
I noticed that Beau seemed to score doubles and afterblows against you by just simply tapping or touching the feder at some times and still getting awarded for it
So, I fence Rapier in the SCA, and I am not a Longsword fencer. I can’t help but notice that in a majority of the matches, I didn’t see a lot of constraint of the opponents weapon. In Rapier combat, regardless of off hand, positioning you sword counter to your opponent’s sword when you enter measure, cuts off their most direct line of attack. Now Longsword is 2 handed and a bit of a different game, but I feel like the same principle of defense applies. Can you walk me through what the process for Longsword is? Again, it’s not my focus, but if I can get the methodology of what is core to your thought process, maybe we can help each other with an exchange of ideas.
I have a hand and a half sword at home I'd like to practice with but know literally nothing about sword fighting and have no one to practice with. Where could I start?
@࿕Suspicious persons࿕ yeah ik grappling and kicking is skill tho and im mainly talking about grappling your opponents arm to make his wepon unable to move
@࿕Suspicious persons࿕ Your sense of self preservation and instinct takes over during a sword fight. I seriously doubt that sword fights were always just one hit and then over.
@@SirPlusOfCamelot yeah, this is fencing, not a sword fight. Fencing is sport because it has rules. You can't just throw the ball to a person on the other team until he falls in basketball just to win, isn't it?
@@Lftarded My point is, when somebody claims that real sword fights would be short and boring and point to these HEMA sparring videos as evidence, they do not account for adrenaline, self preservation, and the fact that not all wounds are mortal, and not all mortal wounds are immediately debilitating/fight ending.
Hope you guys like the video!
The extra editing took a lot longer, let me know if you like it, and if it helps you understand what's going on better!
The editing paid off! The slow-mo and cut effects are 🤌 *chefs kiss*
Yea this is really cool. This is Malin from TSR23. and i like the blood effect to show the hits.
really cool.
I could do with some more breakdown of the moves. especially if they have a name. like "covered stab"

I loved seeing all of the different fighting styles! I love the big guy and his scaryass LOOOONG sword, especially in his hands!
The sniper duel He and Charlie had was kinda eye capturing to me, so amazing!!

I can only imagine how many actual sword fights ended because both fighters got a sword to the face at the same time..
There are many reports of rapier fencers Piercing the Other the Same Time they get pierced.

One question on the bigger fencer. Don't you have a lenght limit on the feathers in the USA?
Charles was a scary opponent. The man was aggressive!
Addicted to the HEMA content tbh

was it due to hitting with the flat of the blade or?

Is the swords weight realistic?
What would've happened if you got a double while were both tied at 9? The epee rules where I fence, both fencers lose the bout?
We would have gone into overtime. I don't know, honestly it hadn't come up in the rules.
Congratulations David. I would have been bricking it at 9-9.
I know it has not to do with this video but where did you acquire your dueling saber
The one I use most is a blade from darkwood Armory that I attached to a grip from the hanwei Hutton saber.
