Lithos are a type of succulent, succulents need a very airy well draining soil and a pot with a drainage hole. Pretty much all succulents love sun they want all the sun. Succulent leaves hold water so when they a firm there full of water when they are squishy and wrinkly the need to be watered. Make sure you give them a lot of water and let it drain out of the pot, the biggest concern is watering too often and not letting the water drain away or letting the soil dry completely before watering. Hope this helps ❤
Lithops are quite particular when it comes to care! Because they're desert plants, they like being in a mix of mostly inorganic grit with only about 10% actual soil. Mine basically thrive off neglect, I only water them when they start getting a bit wrinkly, and never while they're splitting. The one you have there looks like it needs more light (since it's getting taller, called etiolation).
I was gifted a Venus Flytrap recently, and although they are high maintenance - Cleopatra is magnificent, and she deems this video highly worthy of praise! 🌱💚
The reason the lithops have lighter patterns on the top is because those are their skylights! They let light into the inside of the plant for photosynthesis while most of the plant stays buried in the ground, with only the tops showing.
Ibaleays thought lithops looked like brains, but then you said they look like bums and then the bum bum blooms, and now I can't unsee it. Thank you for that. 😂
I'm always excited whenever you post something new, but seeing my own suggestion comment being featured in the intro gave me some much needed serotonin! Thank you, Carys!!
1:43 I have a lithop in my house :] 3:08 btw to water them you need to take a little tray put a bit of water make sure the pot has a hole underneath and then put the lithop on the tray and let it sit there for a few hours and that’s it!
I love them all 😅❤ you got me chuckling and giggling the whole time😂 I really enjoyed watching you create these cute ones. Hope you could add those skull-like plants and the death mushroom too. That black and white type of mushroom 😊 🍄
I'm a new sub. I play with polymer clay as a hobby, although what I do is more contemporary abstract. I do love your work, it's always super cute and I love your up beat attitude
Lithops are actually native to southern Africa! Where I grew up there were loads in the wild areas around my home. Like all succulents they need loads of sun and good drainage. A good rule my mom taught me is the finger test, if you stick your finger into the soil (just to the first knuckle) and it's damp, no need to add water, if it's dry, add water. Because there are so many different types of Lithops they can also cross breed, which means over a few years your plants might visually change to look more similar to each other. If you want them to keep their unique colors, patterns etc, you have to keep them completely separate
Lithops is one of my favorite succulents. I first heard of it in a greenhouse and have been obsessed by it. I found a place where this guy sells only succulents and cacti and discovered so many cool plants. Pachyphytum, sedum, aemonium, and many others. Of you are into plants i suggest going to your local greenhouse or small buissnes plant people. You will definetly find something amazing
My brain seeing the Venus fly trap: LITTLE SHOP LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS BOP SHU BOP LITTLE SHOP OF TER-ERS CALL THE COPS LITTLE SHOP WOAH WOAH OH OOO OH OHHHH
I have a Lithop and this reminded me of my marimba moss ball which is a compounded piece of moss that lives in cold water and dark areas their really cool little fuzzy friends and a perfect starter plant all you have to do is swirl the container at least every hour and change the water every month! I have one named Jeremy❤
I hope that goopy air dry clay stayed stuck to the baked lithops. It would be a good (but fiddly) compound for sticking baked polymer clay together. I am imagining making a little polymer clay house with individual clay bricks stuck together with the air dry clay for the appearance of mortor. Tbh making that sounds like a stressful time but I kinda want to do it anyway because it would be cute
I grow my lithops in cactus mix with added pumis in very small pots so there is less chance of rotting. They are on a stand so they are closer to my grow lights as they are use to desert sun. I only wanter mine when the outer butt is dried fully and paper thin. It's the only way I've been able to keep them alive and as little extra humidity as possible Love these they are so cool
You saying stinky plants reminded me of one of the interesting flowers I’ve learned about. It is called a Corpse Flower. It lives up to its name, its petals are leathery like a decaying body and its pollen smells like dead human flesh. From what I understand it’s a parasitic flower that attracts flies to it because of its smell and once it releases it’s pollen onto the fly, it’ll be transferred to another plant by the fly and then it will grow on the plant until it eats its host. Luckily corpse flowers are found in the Amazon rainforests and a botany building in NYC. Also as a side note, my most favorite plant of them all is this one called a pitcher plant. It’s a carnivorous plant that can grow large enough to eat bats. It looks very similar to a pitcher and its edges are very slippery so it’s victim can fall in, it attracts animals with scents only they can pick up. The scent leads the animal or insect to its edge where it would then slip inside its secret gaping maw, which to ensure it can’t escape, the lid closes. The fluids you can see without touching the pitcher plant is actually its digestive system. Edit: Corpse lily flowers, that’s the one I was talking about. You so do not want one in your house, they are so bad that you might be accused of being a murderer because it smells like a decaying corpse.
😅 Carys, if you were serious, I'll take the creepy pitcher plant if no one else claims it first! I love giving misfits a good home 😉💚🤓 love how all these came out! 💜😻
I wish I could catch a worrywart drop! I keep trying, my littlest sis wants one now too! If nobody has asked for it, pitcher plant! (Like a victreebel pokemon!)
"the butt inside the butt" is such a Cary thing to say
