      @@ClueSign Its not really that bad compared to most major cities. Its pretty rare that you end up sitting in traffic for more than 20 or 30 minutes no matter where you want to go (Eastern suburbs to Western Suburbs, South Hills to Cranberry - whatever), even during rush hours.

    • @ClueSign
      @ClueSign Год назад

      @@EuphoricDan Yes but it's the speeding, the tailgating, the multiple lane changes, the potholes, etc. I live in Wexford now and commute into downtown daily for work, it's white-knuckle every day whether on the Parkway North or McKnight Rd. My office is downtown near the Point, not so bad there if you avoid rush hour.

  • @MrPerfesser
    @MrPerfesser 7 лет назад +4

    The low-lying area near the Point was industrial along with slum housing, and it was prone to frequent flooding. Clearing it out for parkland and improving vehicle access was a big step forward, and Gateway Center was a huge step up from the old Wabash Railroad terminal. The big problem was the citizens and politicians lacked the political will to support and pay for light rail at that time.

    Imagine the cars stripped away and only the people in them. If you do this, you will realized that there is vast amounts of space taken up by the cars themselves and vast amounts of space between cars. Try to fit these people into one block and you realized that the car is taking up all the space. Its a all a very inefficient use of space for the luxury of the private car. Trains and Bikes are more efficient, but people think that they are only for lower class citizens now.

    If you look really closely you can see Pittsburgh’s history all around, you just have to know where to look.

    Hmmm....it's 2022, and traffic in Pittsburgh still blows.
    The Parkway West (I-376) section running from Downtown and the borough of Carnegie heading out towards the airport is the only segment of highway on the USDOT's list of Top 10 congested highways in America that ISN"T located in California.

    kind of makes me think of the Rachel Maddow commercial in front of the Hoover Dam. When you're down and out you kind of have to aim high. At the same time, what elements of PGH history did we lose during this particular renaissance.
