    Thanks Chris / Ash, good to see you on the beat testing the local charging stations. Ballarat MG said we could use their charger whenever however its inside their building meaning that "outside Business Hours" is a no go.

    Hey Chris, really enjoyed this vid. While I definitely don't advocate doing without permission, The tesla "destination chargers" can be switched to "legacy mode" with a small switch inside the unit, this will enable use for all cars, not just tesla's. I really like this MG, I imagine the kids would be happy with the glass roof.

      @chrisvanderstock  3 года назад

      Thanks Paul, the roof is amazing with the best seats being in the second row. I can't wait to see a Model Y in Australia as that will be more expansive.

    Nice collaboration, Chris and Ashley. Great tips. I recently got a peak rate of 184 kW at the Chargefox in Horsham in my Model 3. This is significantly faster and actually cheaper (40c/kWh and only 30c/kWh for RACV members) than Tesla (52c/kWh).

    The design of your charge port is insane - why doesn't it swing down?

    Still waiting for our red one. We were told there was a lack of granny chargers to go out with the new cars.........a bit odd.
    The wait goes on.
    We did a trip down to Melbourne and on to Rye Pub via the entire coast road totalling 225 kms and our M3SR+ used 107wh/km !!! ....only 50%.

  • @OldFliersGroup
    @OldFliersGroup 2 года назад

    Ouch. That MG emblem covering the EV plug was not thought through. Tesla's rear flap is easy to access. Maybe a charge port in front too for those times when front in to charger is easier.

    Great to see people trying to use a variety of chargers.
    The charger suppliers need to see some use in order to encourage them to put in more.
    It also helps to identify which ones work and which ones need repair.

    Good topic! Just for the record though, this doesn’t apply to North America, where Teslas still use their proprietary charging connector.
    From a historical perspective, Tesla developed and deployed its proprietary connector, while the IEC62196 standard (AKA SAE1772) was still snailspacing its way through the standards bodies. Being way ahead of the industry as a whole, Tesla had to have something immediately, and theirs is vastly simpler anyway. By the time they started shipping abroad, IEC 62196 had finally slogged through, and most other countries, very reasonably, insisted upon it.

      Yep, see that with people in the AU forums buying "Tesla" adaptors not realising internationally is different. I had hoped to clear that off by saying Tesla is a different world, but I actually hope Tesla does a retrofit of the USA chargers like they did here and Europe and starts putting type 2 on USA cars to phase out that confusion globally.

  • @mikesparkes5688
    @mikesparkes5688 3 года назад +1

    I don’t think that whether or not a Tesla Destination charger will work for your MG is down to age. They have a switch inside which can be set to “Tesla only” or “Universal”.

    • @ahillfromoz9572
      @ahillfromoz9572 3 года назад

      The new ones don't have that switch any more, and won't work even if you have the adaptor Chris showed.

    Did you install a 32amp charger from EVSE or EvolutionAustralia in your house/garage so that you can charge your MG a bit quicker than the trickle (granny) charger?

    • @chrisvanderstock
      @chrisvanderstock  3 года назад +3

      No, holding off until I feel the need. So far no issues, with most charging only taking a few hours.

    Thanks for sharing. This is all new to me.
    We have a MG zs ev on order, come mid March.
    Have joined with chargefox, and have had a wall charger installed.
    What happens when you go to a charger that is not chargefox, like the one you went to at McDonald's, how do you activate it?
    And if not a free one, do you just pay chargefox and they pass it on to the other provider?
    Regards, Rex

    I was trying to figure out what "Mackers" was. Then I saw the MacDonalds sign across the road.
    Disturbing that Aussies drive on the wrong side of the road. I guess that's because you're upside down in the southern hemisphere?
    Cheers from Canada.

    Using an Ampfibian Mini or Ampfibian RV Plus with a granny charger from a normal 10 amp power point can increase the charging speed by 50% if the granny charger has a 15 amp plug. The power circuit needs to be in good condition.

    Is there available in Australia a portable Jerry can rechargeable battery for EV's that can give you an extra 10-20km of range for that time you arrive almost empty to a single charger that is out of order so you can juice up just enough to make it to a another charger that is hopefully in working order?

    • @chrisvanderstock
      @chrisvanderstock  3 года назад

      There is overseas but not sure if you can buy them here. I've got an emergency back-up battery coming to the channel soon for review, so I'll see how big that thing is and whether it has a 240 socket.

    I've been trying really hard to find information on the state of the EV Charging network in Victoria as I am interested in purchasing an electric car in the next few months. Unfortunately I need a car, but I am one of the people that do not have off-street parking, so charging at home is impossible. Seems to be plenty of information for Qld and NSW, but not much in VIC.

    11:22 did you know that males (from age 16 yrs & 5 months onwards - which is 6,000 days from one's date of birth) are only meant to eat 1 meal per day (in a 24 hour period) and the meal is to be eaten in about 15 to 22 minutes (before 1,400 seconds), because then the body has 85,000 seconds to repair one's body and cells and recover? One can drink water in those 23.5 hours but not eat any food at all. Male humans are not meant to be eating all the time and have the hormones so that can survive and thrive even with just 1 meal a day. Females have to eat some food every 11.5 hours (eat their meal within 15 to 22 minutes, and then only drink water) due to the different hormones that they have. Once a male tries it for 4 consecutive days and gets thru that initial tough period then day 5 onwards it becomes easy and you dont even think of food during the daytime
