I practice 'No Mow August' and avoid heat stress on the lawn and myself. Meadows, indeed, convert part of the lawn to a meadow. I converted a hillside lawn to meadow four years ago. It's great because now I don't have to mow a hillside. I have to tend to it, but I don't have to mow it. It feels right. I mow until the lawn goes dormant shortly after the first heavy frost or freeze. I fertilize with a mix that supports root growth throughout the winter. And I get a beautiful green up in early springtime.
well said , I am a pro in uk and my customers say are you finished for the season now in october and I say , " its not what you say that counts its what the weather says "and here in north uk I am mowing usually right up until the end of November ,,, if , if , but read the weather could be end of Oct , and wow at last someone I agree with on no mow May , does my head in , if you have a lawn then look after it and don't listen to the crap that comes out of some so called tv pro gardeners they are as bad as some of the ideas they come up with
