Embarrassingly, today was the first time I cleaned my Niche Zero. This video was amazing! Super easy to follow. Turns out, cleaning your niche is not nearly as intimidating as I thought it was 😂 Thanks!
I waited 9 months on purpose because when I started to clean it months ago there was nothing in there when I pulled this bolt and NFC disc off so I put it back on just to see how long I could go without doing anything. I love this thing!
I don't have the grinder yet, but still, I watched the video. Whent the day I have the grinder, I'll knew how to clean and calibrate it. Thanks for the guide!!
Many thanks/תודה רבה for your excellent video of how to clean our Niche grinder. The first time I cleaned it about 6 months ago was because it quit working. I didn’t realize at that time that I’d have to clean it. That’s when I found your video/teaching. I always look again at your teaching as I dismantle the machine. I don’t trust my own memory. I did notice your “חסד” “chesed” tattoo too. Nice!
After one rushed cleaning of my niche, I calibrated it quick and ran off to world forgetting to reset the grind and leaving it at calibrate. The next day I went to grind and was like what on earth nothing is coming out. Terror ensued when I realized what I’d done. Thankfully no permanent damage or noticeable grind issues resulted. I felt like such a goof!
Thanks for the camera angles. Was worried on re-assembly that top of inner burr was not level with top of the "inner thing". See that neither was yours was a relief.
Helpful video. Off to clean mine now. The official Niche video is useless by comparison. FYI you should find two spare springs underneath the wooden plinth.
So I looked in my grinder and there was pretty much nothing in there when I took the dosing funnel off at 4 months... so I decided to go as long as I could without cleaning just to see what happened...... yesterday I was showing my friend how it worked and left it somewhere around 40... it was so ridiculously course I could visually see it when I tried to put it in my portafilter... so I reground all 18.5 grams and made a big mess so it's time to clean and I'm back 😊. I've had it since shortly after Mother's Day when I purchased my Bambino Plus. I just tore it down, cleaned it, and the only significant retrained grinds I really found were up around the NFC disc (it kept a gram and a half of the reground coffee 😂) where there weren't any before I reground a bunch of coffee, a little bit Under the Burr and a very little bit under the sweeper. It's a full 9 months of semi daily use and it's exactly 1.2g of coffee in all the crevices inside of this thing, and we gotta give a little blame to me for some of that 😅! I love this virtually maintenance-free grinder 💜
Help! I have the Niche and have regularly cleaned it with no issues. A couple days ago it just stopped so I thought it was jammed. I watched your video and it's very clear. But what is not clear are the springs. I have never seen springs nor do I know what they look like. I did not throw anything out. It worked once this morning and the second time it stopped again. Is it because the springs are gone? But why would it work once and not again without springs? What else could the issue be? Thanks for any help.
Th springs are very important and what keep the burrs from coming together. If you have misplaced yours there is an extra set under the wooden baseplate inside!
@@DaddyGotCoffee Thank you. So glad there were extras. I'm sure I poured them out with the old beans. Between springs and tightening the guard it works!
Have you ever had the sweeper arm get stuck? I have that problem now where I can’t get enough grip on it to pull it off of the center pole. Any tips for how I can get it to come out?
Thanks for sharing. Calibrating my niche after cleaning was my greatest concern. Seems like once it is tight and the dot is aligned with calibrate mark, a half turn back to your espresso grind setting is all that is needed? Thanks again!
@@DaddyGotCoffee hi. when you turn back, do u turn back together with the top stainless together or just the black one with the calibrate on it? thankss
@Allgames Total You turn the Chrome part, the bean funnel until it touches and is calibrated and then you turn the black ring with the dot on it to "Calibrate".. Then you unscrew only touching the Chrome and the black ring with the dot on it will now Indicate your adjustment setting. If you ever move the black ring independent of the bean funnel, just turn it back until it touches and recalibrate
It's time to clean the niche and I decided to come back and comment on this video as appreciation :-) If you still see these I do have a question, what is your range for espresso grind on your nature zero? I run around 20 and I'm curious if maybe I have it miscalibrated when I first set it up because seemingly most people grind finer. A little worried once I tear it apart to clean it I'm going to find I had it calibrated improperly and I'll have to find my sweet spot again 😅
Yup I see all new comments and try to respond to as many as I can! Thank you so much for the appreciation! This one is an oldie! My best advice is to get comfortable with recalibrating by practice ☺️ It will almost certainly shift a bit with a cleaning. I calibrate fairly tightly and usually run between 20-30 on the zero!
@@DaddyGotCoffee thank you very much. I've never pulled a shot that I appreciated outside of the 20s. I tend to run in the lower 20s. My machine also seems to choke if I get below 20
Good stuff. I have two questions if you don’t mind. First, do you find that the screw to the feeding disc gets loose easily? I’ve had a hard time with it staying tight. Also, when you said “back it off” after calibrating, do you turn both the black and the silver discs? I’ve watched other videos and it just doesn’t seem clear as tightening it and then moving the black ring just seems to move them both, so what’s the point of having two independent rings?
Yes that screw does get loose sometimes. You need to tighten it and put your finger thru the guard while doing so so you don't block a direct chute where the beans go down. My machine stopped working and it was because of these 2 things...and losing the springs at some point.
Great cleaning instruction...but maybe a little bit sloppy on the calibration part...but there's a lot of videos on that all over YT. I really like your not so "youtubie" video and presentation. Laid back in a good way. Many youtubers sound way too loud and "selly". Liked and subscribed.
Thank you! Yeah I’ve been trying to find my way with the content on here. I’ve got a good groove on Instagram and moving over to RUclips has been fun - still figuring it out for sure but I’m committed to showing up every week and listening to feedback ☺️ appreciate the encouragement!
Great video as usual! Have you ever seen the issue where the grinder size ring moves as it grinds? I just got my niche and I’m being told by niche that I need to either grease my burrs or sand them down to fix this…pretty unreasonable ask (with the sanding). Anyway how often do you grease your niche?
@@DaddyGotCoffee sorry my mistake it was the threads! The instructions were as follows ‘With the grease - unscrew the bean funnel and wipe the threads cleans with a microfibre cloth. Then add a fresh layer of food grade grease to the the threads on the bean funnel and the threads on the top casting that the bean funnel screws into.’ I guess I’ll have to wing it, love the grinder but disappointing outcome as it just arrived a week ago!
I'm looking at committing to this and it's quite the investment for me. Are you still a fan of the Niche Zero? I am new to espresso and I'm just putting in an order for the Breville Bambino Plus now and I'm going to need a grinder.
The niche is still a great grinder and it’s still on my bar. The DF64 is one to look at but it’s workflow is not as nice. Besides that, one of the grinders I recommend the most often is the eureka mignon specialita - however, it’s a hopper workflow so I’d only consider that if you only do one bag at a time. If you have a couple bags open or do decaf semi regularly a single doser like the niche is a better option. Just some thoughts but yes, I still do reccomend and it’s still on my bar!
@Daddy Got Coffee Thank you, I've actually went through that exact thought process and went down all the rabbit holes yet I keep coming back to the Niche as being one of the least messy and straightforward workflows for a quick morning espresso. Additionally the versatility of grind setting and ease of jumping from one method to another, quickly, without guessing. I really like the Lagom Mini since I have minimal space and it seems to do just as good of a job as a home grinder, but it's not really something to pull 2 or 3 shots back-to-back on a daily basis so 🤷 Thank you for sharing your experience. I keep thinking I'm lacking some key information to make a good choice and have hesitate for over a year ago I genuinely appreciate what you say because it makes me a little more sure of my research.
@@NoZenith excellent! One thing I will say about the niche that many others have asked as well is that it’s def an espresso first grinder. It can do filter but it doesn’t shine as a filter grinder. Hope that helps!
@Daddy Got Coffee Thank you again. I've seen people use coffee shakers like the Fellow Shimmy that filters out some of the fines. Do you personally feel that removing some of the finest particles would help it do better with pour overs and similar brew methods so it wouldn't get so mucky and bitter? I really would like to stick with just one grinder. I have a rather small space
@@NoZenith I tried that and it does help. As you said, an all-in-one grinder at any reasonable price is going to have some compromises. I have a second niche at the office for espresso and unless I’m really pinched for time I’ll often still use a nice hand grinder on a filter brew. That being said, when I first got the niche I recall but it through to pieces on filter, and as long as you manage to find either with a tool like the shimmy or in your pouring, it’s doable. I don’t have one but many people say the DF 64 performs better on filter and a little differently on espresso, but in my opinion, the overall workflow is not as good.
Embarrassing it’s actually been about 14 months, before I was brave enough to clean! All good, tightened the silver band a little too tight, no coffee grind!! Re-visited and counted the wrist swivels backing off the pressure, hey presto beautiful ground beans.
I find the inner burr really difficult to remove as long as the black cap is in place, which depending on how much it’s gummed up can be tricky too. There’s no real knack to it but you just kinda gotta massage it out!
@@DaddyGotCoffee Thanks for the reply. I was unable to remove the black cap also, I tried for about 30 minutes..
