- Annular Solar Eclipse October 14, 2023. We drove from Los Angeles to a Cove Fort a city in Central Utah to check out the Ring of Fire solar eclipse. The Ring of Fire lasted about 4 mins and 42 seconds for our location.
In order to see the ring. You must be in the path of annularity to be able to see the ring. Outside the path, you will only see partial eclipse.
Video filmed October 14th, 2023 in Cove Fort, Utah about 3 hour south of Salt Lake City.
The shadows might be the weirdest thing. I’ll never forget seeing that during the eclipse that passed over us in 2017
And the way all the animals got quiet

It rivals the total eclipse in pure awesomeness. The annular of 2023 went right over Medford, Oregon, and I could see it through the fog with the eclipse glasses. Absolutely incredible.
I am not as lucky as you guys to see this with your own eyes. This is as good as being there in person. THANK YOU. 😄

Thanks for this! We didn’t have the equipment to film it, so I've been looking for a video by someone who captured both the eclipse and at least a little of the peoples' reactions. The cheers and sounds of awe were such a part of the experience! We traveled from Philadelphia all the way to a small town in Utah to see it!
I was also a little sad we forgot to bring a colander to see the funky shadows, and forgot to look at the shadows of the trees to see the wonky effects.
Got another chance in 2024 though, much closer to home this time 😆
It was my first annular eclipse. I went to Hobbs NM to see and film it. It was an amazing experience. Also great footage man!!!!!!
Got a picture of it in a light cloud turned out pretty good the few clouds almost looked a dark grey at the ring

I live right in the path of the annular eclipse, but it was completely overcast with low clouds. So I noticed a slight dimming in the intensity of daylight, but that was it. 😢

They don't make nearly as big a deal out of annular eclipses as they do total eclipses.

Yeah, and it is still a very different experience than a _total_ eclipse like the one coming in 2024! This is the lesser of the two, a total eclipse is even more amazing.
Fun fact too: during the annular eclipse the moon doesn't fully block the sun because it is nearly as far away from Earth as it gets. At that distance the moon is so far away that you could fit all the planets including a second Earth between the Earth and the Moon!!! Space is so mind-bogglingly vast!
Super cool. I’ve never seen anything like this annular. I’ll have to start checking them all out. Because I was right here in Oregon especially on this one. The thing is to go somewhere where you’re gonna have more than likely clear sky’s like you in Utahville. I drive truck. Utah’s not bad. I like it. I was in Richfield for the eclipse. (I live 45 minutes away and my town is still in the path) But we traveled to Richfield to have more time in Annularity! It was a beautiful and amazing experience!!

During annular eclipses the Moon is so far away that you could fit every planet, including a second Earth, between the Earth and the Moon! This is the moon near itself apogee, the furthest it gets from us. During a total eclipse the Moon is about as close as it gets to the Earth, so you can't fit every planet in between us and the Moon at that time.
Space is so mind-bogglingly vast, and our Moon is huge!

Not as awe inspiring as a total eclipse, but still spectacular.
We were at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque to witness this. Not a ton of cheering, but someone did play Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire' just as it happened. Still, an absolutely awe-inspiring event. We already have our tickets to San Antonio in April.

In my place I only see the partial eclipse in Apr 8th 2024 but the partial eclipse is fine to me. Only 90.6% of the moon covered the sun
