  • @matthews1082

    Some good attention to details here. There's a specific way the one palm wraps around the other fist in the 3 opening moves, and it irks me when instructors ignore it or don't know it, so it's great that Sensei Zoe not only does it, but briefly mentions it. Also like the way you did the lower block/middle block/kick sequence in 3 steps, which again is the right way to do it (some people teach to do the 2 blocks simultaneously, which isn't the tradition). Oh yes, the toe points to the ground before the kick - you didn't mention that, but again that's a detail from orthodox Okinawan Goju-ryu traditions. As for the hammer strike to the nose, as Sensei Che pointed out, we also do a smaller circle, small and fast. Second final move (the one just before the mawashi uke) we'd do a reverse knife-hand strike that ends up with finger tips pointing to our left. This is a good instructional video, Sensei Zoe.

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  3 года назад +1

      This is truly validating - to have someone who truly knows the kata inside and out pick up on the details (even ones so engrained I forget to mention them) means that I am on the right path, at least in terms of being able to teach this kata meaningfully. I don't know if I can make the same kind of video for Seiyunchin, but maybe one day!
      I am so glad that the authenticity of my Goju roots are clear - I started under a Jundokan line, and have managed to stay on that line, in some form or other, for 16 years now. I am so glad that some of it has stuck 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️
      Truly, thank you so much for this lovely comment - I am glad I didn't delete the video like I wanted to on Friday morning 🙈

    Saifa was always my goto kata For competitions but secretly it was always my favourite too. I noticed though you guys don’t focus so much on the elbow as a strike in the beginning of the Kata the way my hanshi taught us that we should focus that movement as a strike

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  Год назад +1

      Hi Nathan! We definitely treat that elbow as a strike in bunkai (we've touched on it in other videos) - but in our federation, the bunkai shouldn't be obvious while doing the kata, if that makes sense? To try avoid overemphasizing moves, as it were.
      We really do love to hear different points of view - thank you for sharing!
