Luke, you do not know how useful your tutorials are to me. I'm 57 years old, in my 20s I was a DJ, I remember using only the Technics SL 1200 MK2 and a Rane mixer. Now everything is much simpler and at the same time more sophisticated. Now I have the passion again and I am studying a lot to update myself, you are one of my mentors. Unfortunately I have no budget to buy my DJ equipment, I'm working with an old Pioneer XDJ R1, but I dream of having the Denon SC5000 and X1800, maybe with the Prime 4 StandAlone. Someday I'll get them, I hope the years do not overshadow me. Thank you Luke, for your entertaining videos, very illustrative and with excellent lessons. Your music work is impeccable, too. I'm waiting for May 24 to buy your Avicci remixes - SOS My admiration and respect Cheers
Being really honest to you Luke, I never thought to take music career seriously because I thought it's gonna be impossible for me. After knowing you and the way you help everyone to grow in this industry (especially new talent) I will try my best to carry on and one day I will meet you to play with you .. :)
Laidback Luke is the man who really contributed and bring his knowledge to us, not like other big names like Martin Garrix David Guetta they don’t give u shit!

Luke I just listened to your Avicii S.O.S Remix and let me tell you that it touched my heart, it brings me a lot of nostalgia and it inspires me a lot to keep on going as a DJ & Producer 💯❤
Hey man, that was really nice of you to do that for Tim's family even though it was tough for you. You will make so many people happy and keep his spirit alive :) Have a good weekend :)
Dude so glad you put out videos like this. Been watching for a while and respect what you do. It is a great craft regardless of anyones skill level of gear.
You go extremly creazy with your effects. The energy is not always higher but its defenetly your signature dj sound. Congrats to You and Ashley, celebrete well!
The tips and walkthroughs are amazing along with your dedication and work work keeping these blogs going with your crazy schedule! Your S.O.S remix brought tears to me eyes as I'm sure it did a lot of people - Thanks Luke. Can't wait for your techno set in Boston!
This was the most helpful dj tutorial for the beginner level of djing that I’m at right now, big thanks to you and it was great catching your set at Time nightclub back in January...
Bro, longtime Denon fan and I finally pulled the trigger on an X1800! I could watch you do instructional videos on this mixer all day!! All your videos are dope tho
This is an excellent video. You seem to be the master at applying effects. Thanks for explaining you thought processes behind using effects. They make more sense to me now! With this channel I know I'm rocking with the best!!!
I use echo on 3/4 to add tons of extra energy with drums during the 4th/8th bar. As well if the breakdown is lacking some element or energy, I will echo the hell out of it to keep some energy before a melody/drums kick back in.
One thing I like doing is, hitting the delay for one extra beat ever 8 or 16 steps. I have a heart for deep dark techno, and it's one quality of that sound, I enjoy applying other places, and if done properly, only the kick is doubled. On my nob, it's about 65-75%.
Love all your videos!!! It would be super awesome if you considered doing virtual lessons for dj! You can hold sessions like professors do for online classes. Just a thought!
Hey Luke. Shout out to you from South Africa. Love your videos. I've seen you use the "helicopter" effect in one of your sets. Can you please share on how you do this effect. Thanks
Loving all the vlogs as always, Luke. Really appreciate all the useful information and the interesting insight in how things go! Here's my question for Ashley and you; Did you start off with a long distance relationship? If so, how did you make it work? I'm personally pretty crazy about someone from the US (I'm from Belgium) and I want to fly out there and see how we can take steps from there to make it work (not long distance forever of course but for the time necessary) but at this point, she isn't exactly very positive about that it can work... Is there anything I can do to convince her?
Quick question about the "adding effects to add energy" - If it adds energy and makes it more exciting/sound better - why isn't it produced like that in the first place?
Just in case Luke does not reply....this is part of crowd awareness and personal choices. If during a set you played high energy mixes from beginning to the end you would exhaust the crowd and kill the dance floor. Same can also be said if you have taken your dancers to a certain place and you want to give them more and take them higher, then using FX to enhance and increase energy ( esp on a drop ) can send them and prepare them for the next energy level song. Longer sets require an awareness of physical dancers as you need to give the audience / crowd breathing space peaks/highs as well as chill moments...song selection plays a big part of that but your ability to add personal flavour to increase/ decrease chosen songs energy through FX adds to the overall set with its highs and lows.
Not using the motorised decks at home anymore? And awesome explanation about where and why the effects get used at that time - very cool - thank you :)
Thanks for the FX tips, Luke! I noticed you use your SC5000's over the Motorized versions on a regular basis. Going to get one of those X1800 mixers by Christmas if I can help it :)
I want to mention from experience that adding energy right before the drop is often not a good idea because when you end all the effects at the drop then the drop seems less powerful comparatively Especially as you did it, we could see the master channel got way louder and then when it dropped went back to normal. Usually I try to have the opposite effect where I want the drop to sound louder, more punchy so I’ll filter it etc
@@pulkitkohli1993often just filter works but if I feel like it's taking too much volume out by cutting the base then I'll add some reverb or noise if it's not on the same knob!
Great video! Just wondering how your getting on with engine for set prep compared to rekordbox and others? I still hope denon introduces a track preview feature in the library like rekordbox!
hi luke, i've got a couple of questions regarding producing. how do you balance your kick and your sub bass? do you use sidechain compression or LfoTool? also how loud you usually put both of them in the mix. I was wondering how you make your kicks so snapy and cut that much through the mix. just as in your new track Oh Yes (Rockin' With The Best) btw, love that low end tho! 🤘
What are your thoughts about about the standard effects on pioneer or denon mixers. I generally prefer the xone sound. But I use the Rmx500 effects mainly with my xone43 or djm900nxs2 or colour FX on the djm (only space and fun echo mainly) when I use that mixer. Because I feel that stock effects tend to get too generic after a while. When I use the Rmx500 with a xone mixer I find the filter has like very eeery sound which someone may enjoy only if they really like noise rather than music lol. But because it doesn’t calibrate with the xone perfectly it’s fun especially when there are solo synth breaks. However the Rmx is a goto for me as I feel I can get more creative with effects as I feel mixer stock effects are too generic. If I’m drunk in a club obviously I don’t understand. Also what are your thoughts about using effect pedals if you have used that in your production or with turntables in the past maybe? Definitely not worth a new topic but if you could touch upon that sometime even for a short while (maybe in a production tutorial as well maybe?). Thanks again for taking the time and effort for a vlog. Cheers. Sorry if there are typos or bad grammar as I’m typing from my phone. Thanks again. Happy weekend.
Was up laidback luke quick question in regards to that denon mixer? Does that mixer happen to have a “slip roll” similar effect like on the pioneer 900 nexus 2
Could you please do a video like that using a budget dj controller ? like the pioneer sb3 .. it's possible to use the same kind of effects on this controller ?
When you look in the comments do you scroll down the entire comment section? If you have the 3 still denons, when are you going to get the 4th player to the left side of your set?

Your videos really inspires me. You are so great at music, and it seems like, you know what you are doing no mater what you are doing!
Amasing work with the SOS! Going to test it out in my local nightclub tonight!
HP filter + some delay or echo on buidlups also works great in clubs for me, it really brings up the energy :)
This was the most helpful dj tutorial for the beginner level of djing that I’m at right now, big thanks to you and it was great catching your set at Time nightclub back in January...
This was so helpful. I always learn so much from your videos. 🙌🏻 Thank you!
I like the way you put in a dub echo out at 9:05. Either just habit, or a quick extra example. I use this sometimes for transition
Thank you luke. Iam studing about dj.Your tutorial vlogs are really helpfull
Esssential tips for DJs of all levels, great work as always Luke!
Love the SOS remix Luke, amazing tribute to Tim.

Congrats on the engagement!
Alright, played it out in the club and it WORKED! Not just worked... but really rocked the dancefloor!
Can’t wait to see you in San Diego at Parq!! Best way to celebrate my birthday!

Epic Video this helps me alot !!!
I have a Question do you use only MP3 for your sets or music with more quality ?
Wav or aiff? Or 320 mp3 is good enuf?

I may have been djing for 10 years. But these videos are seriously helpful!! Much love from #FL!P
Thank you again, Luke!
Awesome video Luke! Thank you so much ;)
You did remarkable with the SOS remix. May Tim rest in peace.

THANK YOU LUKE!!!
Thank you for explaining how to use the fx i learned so much
Love your remix of S.O.S. :)
Hey Luke, could you do a series on user submitted DJ sets on RUclips? It would be interesting to see you do a review on some RUclips DJs!

fx depends on crowd

MAD Respect bro! Great Beats, Attitude, VIds and thank god you DONT count down your drops! LOL

let's also appriciate the lucas & steve remix
great video. Thank you
oh my god i feel avicii is back after listing your remix
Hey Luke! Was just wondering, when referencing "momentum", are you referring to the phrasing in a track? Hope you have a great day! L's up! Take care!
saw a lot of dj using the trim and low knobs when mixing in and out between tracks and dont really touch the high and mid knobs, can u discuss it thx
Is that a CDJ at the back? Should have use that in the setup. 😁

Retrovision remix? I will wait by my phone to get that ASAP
This is one of vlogs, which you have to play couple of times :) So many informations :) (In good way) :)
Was up laidback luke quick question in regards to that denon mixer? Does that mixer happen to have a “slip roll” similar effect like on the pioneer 900 nexus 2
I got a question I have the DDJ-RR and was wondering if you made a video on how to use the sampler button?? Any help would help thx LL
Yeaaaaa
Hi Luke....I notice that you are not using a lot of Reverb FX with the prime setup!!!??? Any reasons why????
Hey Luke ! I have a question. How do you keep up with all the music that comes out while traveling and taking care of all your responsibilities ?
Nice tutorial man
Could you please do a video like that using a budget dj controller ? like the pioneer sb3 .. it's possible to use the same kind of effects on this controller ?
Would buy a DDJ 400
I may have missed the vlog but im noticing the fader is in the middle do you explain that anywhere as i learned completely differently.
When you look in the comments do you scroll down the entire comment section? If you have the 3 still denons, when are you going to get the 4th player to the left side of your set?
Its kinda funny that a laminated cdj 2000 nxs picture is right behind the denon decks
yes!
What's your ultimate DJ goal?
🔥🔥🔥
luke why u dont use pioneers nexus 2 no more
🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏
Just curious, are you friends with Armin & do you like his music..?
Anyone clock the pioneer cdj in the background?
Wow first one
How do you manage to not get copyright striked? Even the original artist are getting copyright striked for their own work. Like TheFatRat.
Laidback luke How can i make a remix?
#AskTheDreamTeam Luke, are you sometimes getting crazy becouse of the shows you are doing
