Why The Toy Boom Has Been Good For Monopoly Maker Hasbro

  • While many industries were ravaged by the pandemic in 2020, the toy industry enjoyed a 16% increase - or $3.5 billion - in sales from 2019. With families spending more time at home, parents turned to toys to keep everyone entertained indoors. Hasbro, which owns some of the most popular toy brands, such as Monopoly, NERF, and Jenga, has been top of mind for consumers. Its success is also aided by its strength in the digital sector, thanks to its massively popular games, TV shows and movies based on their strongest toy brands.

      I clicked on this vid and came to the comments to say precisely the same thing. They must have Captain Obvious at the helm. I’m half tempted to watch the entire 13-minute presentation on how a boom in toy sales is good news for the largest toy company in the world. Clearly CNBC has nothing but contempt for its viewers, which fully explains why it gave a platform to people like Suze Orman and Jim Cramer.

    • @Vandicoup
      @Vandicoup 3 года назад +1

      I think the video's more about how the pandemic specifically has made toy sales boom. They're not really trying to be d-bags and state the obvious. They're going into exactly why this is happening, with the ongoing pandemic being one of them. People need something to do while they have to continue staying at home and away from others most of the time.

      I recommend you to try and look for something other than lego. The bricks themselves can be legally sold by other companies too and they are often much cheaper whilst still retaining about the same quality. You´ll also be able to find way more interesting designs and even building plans online which sometimes allow you to order the exact amount of bricks for a certain model someone designed.
      Lego has also proven that they have hardly any real interest in what their consumers want. They´ve driven up prices dramatically whilst throwing out worse sets each year.
      Some of the companies that sell similar bricks are BanBao, CaDA, Cobi (they´ve got great realistic vehicles), Qman, Xingbao and there are many more.

      Might I recommend looking into board games like Settlers of Catan. Sadly, Hasbro has been in the innovation crushing business for years when it comes to board games. They will keep recycling ancient Parker Bros and Milton Bradley games and crowding out actually innovative board games.
      In the case of Catan, it is an award winning board game that has been around for 26 years and was called the board game of our time by Washington Post in 2012 but retailers only started to stocking it a few years ago. Hasbro has by contrast been sitting on Parker Bros and Milton Bradley games from 50-60 years ago and just repaints a new coat of paint on them such as Fortnite Monopoly.
      I was fortunate to have friends introduce me to non Hasbro board games. If you haven't tried one, I highly recommend you do

      Easy Bake Oven has been around for years! Since 1963 actually. It used to use an incandescent light bulb to cook small pastries all the way up through the early 2000s. Today they use an actual heating element since modern bulbs no longer produce much in the way of heat.

    I like the toys but this company is over valued. High dividend payouts fueled by debt at high interest rates. Buy the toys don’t buy the stock.
