- It is one of the least explored places on our planet.
We know more about parts of space than about the deepest depths of our ocean.

But this week the international seabed authority is meeting to decide whether this untouched ecosystem can be mined for the metals we need for the green technologies of our future.
The Natural History Museum has returned from 5,000 metres down in the Pacific, with creatures never seen before.
They gave our reporter Ruben Reuter an exclusive look at the species we could be about to lose.

We don't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to choosing between conservation and profit.
Great presenter, good job
Top class reporting. Key issue. Credit to Ruben Reuter....
Fantastic and informative reporter! Hope to see more from him.
NO deep see mining !
No green revolution then, you cant have it both ways.
Fair play Ruben. Brilliant film
I could say ban deep sea mining but corporates and governments only look at the bottom line these days... 😪
Not just these days, to be fair.
NO!!
We could choose to dedicate less energy and resources towards unnecessary work to reduce the amount we 'need'. Renewables won't solve the problem if we continue to exploit and overconsume natural resources and dont operate within reasonable limits.
Deep sea mining seems like more of the sort of thing that caused the problems in the first place. Going on past experience, for-profit mining companies will not do due dilligence on any risks that can be outsourced to the commons. Governments will be lobbied not to regulate the process effectively, and the biome will suffer as a result.
"Megamaid has gone from suck to blow, do something"
This is so sad, we learn so much from observing and imitating life, especially when exposed to extreme circumstances and the reason for disturbing this is to give us buffer time to find better solutions?
I don’t think it’s an amazing thing, people should be respect to the planet and nature
Hello no. You have already destroyed the planet enough.
Mining in a place will put all sea creatures in danger of extinction 🤣😂🤣
Ocean’s Gate Mining Inc….
Very poorly balanced report. Could have at the very least included some footage of nickel laterite mining in indonesia or artisanal cobalt mining in the DRC. There's no perfect solution here, but dressing a (likely relatively) low impact form of mining up as an existential threat to the planet is incorrect and counter productive
No, it does not, but rich sociopaths gotta get richer...
Gud ok
Cathy Newman, caught in the act
Jordan Peterson, spittin' straight facts
You tried to twist it, make it all whack
But now you lookin' foolish, can't take it back!
The world needs deep-sea mining, but it also needs balanced dialogue and civil exchange. Such was NOT on display with Cathy Newman's bad interviewing with Dr. Jordan Peterson on January 16th, 2018. Cathy Newman did a poor job of phrasing her questions because she was trying harder to make Peterson look bad than to have a balanced and civil exchange of ideas. SHAME ON YOU, Cathy Newman; we are very angry at you for what you did.
No, the world doesn't need deep-sea mining. The nodules serve a greater purpose than just being "ingredients" for the EV industry...
That was a good few years ago now mate. Time to move on and worry about something new.
No , no it doesnt is the answer
NO!!
