Hi Chris - Absolutely love this channel. I bought two of the UDR's over the weekend, and all the aluminum and stainless part upgrades for one of the trucks. The truck that will be upgraded is going to be a replica of my 2017 Raptor race truck, but I digress. I'm not an RC racer or hobbyist. I'm a RC play-arounder lol. But I do have a bit of experience in recoloring "plastic" parts (but on a much larger scale). The material the UDR is made from isn't like other RC cars where it has a nylon fiber base, that allows the dye to penetrate the material. These parts are made from a combinations of polymers Silicone with reinforced Poly carbonate, this gives the parts a relatively ridge but flexible and lightweight property, similar to the parts used in the automotive industry, such as bumper covers and the like. Unfortunately this means the dye technique even with a light acid pre-bath won't work to recolor the parts. That means you will have to buy a RC paint, that normally has an adhesion promoter mixed into it to paint all types of plastic based materials. This is just my experience dealing with these materials in building race cars and trucks.
I had a rear caliper that broke also, didn't realize it until the rear rotor melted and locked up the passenger rear tire. The rotor/hub got so hot it allowed the axle pin to spin freely in the hub. I put the truck away and figured I'd work on it later. The truck sat for a few hours allowing the plastic hub to cool down and fussing the axle pin into the plastic hub. I took the axle out but couldn't get the hub off even without the caliper being on. Had to hammer the hub off and ended up braking the hub and mushrooming the axle threads. Long story short I replaced both axles/bearings/rotors(hubs)/pins/ and the entire rear axle housing. Be sure to check the rear hubs for extra play in the hub, whether it's in and out or back and forth.
In one of the videos for the Revo and UDR Traxxas mentioned they were introducing their new plastic. They were after cold weather durability. As far as dying, you might want to give SEM vinyl paint a try? I used it on old and new plastic pieces. Easy to apply, easy to clean up and results are best in the auto restoration biz
Spraying a liberal amount of WD40 on plastic, leave it for an hour approx to permeate the plastic & wipe off, to add a little more flexibility to plastic.
I have this truck and I run it on 2 3S 6000XL MA packs and this thing is a beast!!!! I do love my MA packs and there support is top notch. I have used other packs but It will be only MA now as they are the best!!!
Let’s see a running video on both LiPos Great video love watching and so do my boys. Keep up the good work you are the 1 person that goes into the most detail on vehicles and make them run better awesome
Chris that MaxAmps 6S is going to be insane. I agree with your opinion on 4S and this truck. I've seen videos on 4S and 6S runs and I seem to like how much control they have on the 4S. When I get mine out I'll have to see but that's just my opinion. 9000MAH you going to be out there for a long time, lol. Good info as usual!
Why not spray paint the calipers? In the past I have used those cheap spray paints from Walmart to paint plastic parts and they bond to plastic surfaces really well. Just make sure they are compatible with the surface/material you will be spraying. Calipers are usually painted using matt colors and spraying them would definitely make them look more realistic.
Great Video man keep it up an WOW nice fitment!!! be sure to tell the run times if possible could you do some flat out racing too i am currently running 4 x Protek 8500mah 2s 100c graphine LiHV packs for 4s they fit well and last around 26min racing flat out and 45-55min on slower trail runs, and for 6s 4 x floureon 5500mah 3s 35c Lipo packs BARELY fit (wires all twisted and bunched up) racing flat out they last around 17min and in slower trail runs they last around 55-65min
Hi Chris, is there a clear silicone on the plastic parts you tried to dye? the boiling water is meaning to expand "Open the plastic" so the dye can set in, perhaps this could be a reason? great video as always man!
Cool vid on a Sunday evening ...looking foward to seeing the truck running on those maxamps....and a big thnk u for the 5% discount code...ive used it in the past to order some maxamps batteries👍👍👍great vid as always man...
MaxAmps batteries are killer, no doubt. And I’m all about high C(discharge). My question is how you ever get the full amps out of the batteries while using connectors that don’t have the ampacity to relay the current? The connectors will end up creating resistance which = heat. And heat causes more resistance ( vicious circle). Etc.. the connectors being used in the video are rated at 90 amps of continuous flow. I think that rating is being very optimistic, but regardless both batteries shown in video are capable of flowing amp in the multiple hundreds range. So , what gives? And don’t get me started about “deans plugs” lol. Any info would be appreciated
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your input. The majority of my vehicles have the castle 6.5 mm bullets installed. I’m not exactly sure the amp rating on those type of plugs. There’s a vehicle as the plugs installed into the chassis so rather than giving myself a headache I just went with the stock plugs. I understand your method of thinking all I can tell you is use them and enjoy their performance and longevity. They are miles above any other battery on the market
I keep stripping the plastic tire hubs and calipers on my UDR. I've gone through 3 tires already. For some reason the tires spins so fast it melts the plastic? I dunno.
Yes that has happened to me twice. I think it’s a design flaw. A little play in the calipers causing it to rub. I think trying aluminum calipers would be a good idea.
Welcome to “mooorree evveeeerryyydaaaay rrrrr ccc” Lol (I said that in my best slow chris voice) Rit dye only works with colors lighter then its color, also a common color wheel will let u know which color u will end up with when using two different colors, blue plastic n red dye will give u purple, example!
Ive Used Rit DYE plenty of times in the past and even if the color was off it should have soaked into the plastics. In this case the plastic they used on those parts are non porous. Didn't take the dye at all. Ive used rit dye to dye the grey traxxas plastics in the past. Ive dyed their plastic chassis and have dyed proline beadlock rings with no problem. Just didn't work in this case. ALSO its "IM BACK WITH MORE EVERYDAY RC" get it right! LOL JK. Just messing with ya!
If you have tune in to my channel through the years you’ll know that I put plenty of my vehicles and upgrades and batteries to the test. In this particular instance I have not got a chance to share a video on how these upgrades or batteries perform. I have been through a lot this past year and not had a chance to upload videos. Thanks for watching
I wouldn’t remove anything from my udr to make it run on just 4s! 4s is to slow for this rig! One 6s would be good cus that’s all that u should run in this rig! Just my opinion n like messing with Chris but I would take the 4s if I was getting them for free too
I would have to disagree with you Steve. I usually want the most power out of my rigs and always like to run the maximum power possible but in My opinion for the first time I enjoy running this truck on 4S rather than 6S. I feel 6s is just too much power for this rig. The scale feel is just perfect on 4S. Full speed on 6S would be equivalent to going 500MPH on a 1:1. I think the 4S running about 35mph is about 150MPH 1:1 and more accurate. Not saying 6S isnt fun but a little much here but I aint complaining with having an overpowered vehicle and the power when I need it.
you should check out the 7200 Mah 6S that SMC came out with few weeks ago www.smc-racing.net/index.php?route=product/product&path=67_159&product_id=504
Wow, they're slogan should be "MaxAmps...cuz ya got money to BURN!" Yes they have a good C rating compared to Traxxas lipos but so do many others for HALF the price or even 3 times less such as TrueSpec SMC lipos! Then again, if I was getting free lipos from MaxAmps I wouldn't mind saying good things about them in return. Waste of money...
Yes I am fully aware of all other battery companies C ratings and there are a lot of good companies out there such as the one you mentioned. Simply, these are the batteries I choose to use. I don’t feel like people should be offended on which battery company I spend my money with. Another fact is Yes I am sponsored by MAXAMPS and I occasionally get free packs from them but understand sponsorships don’t just happen. I was sponsored by them after 10 years of being a loyal customer. I say good things about them because I’ve used them for so many years I really like their product and it’s true quality.

Everyday, I see new upgrades. I just ordered the trailing arms from mfr. Now I need to get afrolucha rotors, gpm tie rods and the sway bar links.
I used plastic primer on my trucks calipers then sprayed them red. Worked a treat.
That’s a good technique! Thinking about doing that but HOT RACING has red alloy now!

Awesome video Chris. Crazy that the plastics are not dye able.. nice new max amp power plants my friend!
Thanks Keith! Yea man I was surprised. They are just non porous! Cant wait to run these packs!
Great video Chris. Stinks about the dye. Looking forward to hearing how these MaxAmps pack perform. Great video as always my friend.
Hot Racing is coming out with Aluminum Red Calipers for the UDR
Thanks for the info! Cant wait for those!
They came out with the break disc from HR, but they sold out in a couple of days.

Sweet batteries Chris! Should be a blast with the 6s 100c Power 🙌
