Nice bunch of blooms! That nobilior just hits the spot! I was like oh yea how much you want, then I saw the " I think im gonna keep it! "😂 that would be one you would kick yourself letting go! 😂😂😂
I don't know if any orchid is more fragrant than Dendrobium anosmum. I can smell them outside from many many feet away, if there is a breeze I can smell them across the yard. I had one in the house once when in bloom and it filled the entirety of the house with raspberry scent, I ended up taking it outside it was that strong. I am surprised at how fragrant Cattleya violacea is, I can smell it as soon as I walk into the grow space in the morning and that is just from two blooms.
So basically what you're saying is I need Dendrobium anosmum and Cattleya tigrina? I feel like Cattleya walkeriana is also very strong. I could smell it in my entire flat. I'm curious for Cattleya dowiana and Laelia crispa - those are also supposed to be extremely fragrant. Concerning selling the plants you're not sure about keeping: what if you keep smaller divisions and then see if you can find "better" replacements?
@@MattbyNature Anosmum is right up there with walkeriana and dowiana is incredible as well! I thought about keeping a division of the ones I’m selling, but they’ll still take up space, which is at a premium. The plants need to be outstanding to stay! lol
Stephen I can understand your point I'm absolutely mad at orchid's fragrances and you have such a wonderful space out there I stumbled a c.nobilior just once at the greenhouse of a friend that sells orchids professionally and the fragrance was amazing. I'm impressed by your goal to make more room you have so many space out there ❤😂🎉🎉🎉🎉I would keep the whole species with me, and maybe start collecting miniatures so you may engage with them in a huge variety of forms and fill the space you are in❤️ not even getting ever annoyed ❤ do we get ever annoyed by orchids?😮😅! I'm blessed looking at all the space you have❤ the Catt nobilior coerulea is awesome
So true about the Brazilian breeding lines. They put a lot of stuff up here to shame and plants you thought once were good just look sad in comparison now... I'm trying to get rid of my tigrina too. I had no idea how big and crazy they would get despite being told how big and crazy they would get.
This is a really interesting video. I love seeing your orchids and learning more about the species cattleyas that you have. I may have missed it, but do you have any news about your greenhouse?
I’m actually going to buy another grow tent and indoor cabinet instead. It’s the next best thing to a greenhouse, which will be much more expensive and tough to get past the HOA.
I'm working out what is staying and what is going. I have something that I like, but it just doesn't make sense to keep it. Rlc Andean Treasure needs to go. I was also wondering what a rest period should look like for unifoliate, labiate group Cattleyas. I have a few species and I'm looking for a general purpose suggestion, if something like that is possible.
@@SVKLOrchids I know that bit. I'm wondering about the length of time and watering frequency. Last winter due to family issues nothing was watered from early Oct. to early Nov. then I watered every two weeks until Feb. when I resumed usual weekly watering. I'm wondering if every 10 days for 2 months might be better as some of the pseudobulbs are still quite puckered. Everything has new growths and roots; I'm thinking maybe the rest could be shorter and I could water a bit more frequently. FWIW I'm growing labiata, mossiae, purpurata, warscewiczii, and dowiana and some floofy ones too.
@@BakedandCooked It’s really tough to give exact advice since I can’t see your collection! You can definitely get into a rhythm where they all get watered at the same time, but probably not a hard and fast number of days between watering since the level of dryness in the pot will dictate when water is needed. The humidity and temperature changes will change how long between watering. Sounds like you’re onto something with a 10 day watering periodicity, however.
Hi Stephen! I have a question for you. I have a cattleya Walkerianna “the chairman” division that is growing a new growth with 2 leaves. Is that normal? I consider you the Cattleya Guru. Thank you for any insight.

Yes, anosmum is definitely up there for scent!! I think it’s probably at the same level as tigrina!

Is that the Nobilio Cerulia you sold me before? 🎉😮😊
No, this is a different one I snagged last year from my friend Jeanne
Also what platform do you sell you orchids on?
I usually sell on Facebook or send to local folks via email

Most Cattleyas just get less water in winter and little to no fertilizer

They survived the last one. If they seem to be staying a little too wet I'll try adding a day or two.
Is this a good time of year to order Catasetum types from Bela Vista Orchids?
