Funny thing. In the shounen jump manga version of grandpa getting the millennium item, it shows the many traps of an ancient egyptian pyramid. The first magical trap after the typical spike and stone traps was one where there was a maze of paths above a pit with six sentinels holding spears pointed outwards. when first entering the maze, the three men, Grandpa and the two kush soldiers walked normally which triggered the trap to activate, sending the soldiers with spikes towards the three. Grandpa correctly accesses that the trap only activated because they were walking normally, putting forward their right foot and in turn, disrespecting the pharaoh and causing the guards to activate. Grandpa figured this out because all the statues had their left feet forward on the skates that moved them and so he tells the kush soldiers to follow his lead and to only put their left feat forward when moving. only one of the kush soldiers follow his lead though and slowly walks with his left foot forward. The other kush soldier attempts to make a break for the door though and in turn, he is stabbed by 3 different egyptian spears and dies. After grandpa and the surviving kush soldier makes it though to the next room though with the pharaoh, the kush soldier surviving tells gramps that he wasn't letting gramps have the treasure, so he pulls out a pistol and shoots him in the shoulder but then the pharaoh comes out and does some egyptian mind breakery and fucking sends the other kush soldier to hell.

One issue I had with this was how they depicted the Pharaohs name in hieroglyphs. In the show its depicted with the hieroglyphs of a Vulture, a loaf of bread, a feather(or reed), an owl, and a bird chick. The Vulture transliterates to A, the loaf of bread a T, the feather(or reed) to I, the owl to an M, and the bird chick to W or U. As it read on the cartouche his name would actually be Atiemu or Atiemwe. So for his name to be Atem, his cartouche would have to contain the Vulture, loaf of bread and owl hieroglyphs (ATM).

This dub's dumb ass ending changed my life, and it was how I started going on RUclips. I remember as a kid being crazy for Yu-Gi-Oh! and after watching this on air, I honestly thought the channel cut something out. Maybe a month or so later when we got internet, it was one of the first things I remember looking up, but it ended up being the original Japanese episodes (this was back when RUclips didn't have the copyright claim issues). So I ended up watching the entire show in Japanese and came to the original ending, which was completely cut from the dubbing for some reason (time restraints?) and being completely satisfied with the closure the original ending had, as well as just the entire story, realizing how much the dubbing kind of turned it into an almost completely different show. In any case, being on RUclips as early as 2006 had changed my life because of the whole domino effect of how I'm now a working editor and I still keep in contact with those I've met way back when. Say whatever you want about Yu-Gi-Oh, it's definitely sloppy and terrible at most points, but god, did it change my life. I probably wouldn't be the person I am today without it.
You know, I really loved Yu-Gi-Oh. But one thing I will give GX over it is that that duels didn't take an unnecessary 5 episodes to conclude. Like we could get just 1 duel in an episode. And for really important ones maybe 2 or 3

@Benjamin Parker and I agree but he says that he wants to get away from the "Everything Wrong With" tagline for cinema sins on RUclips (which he pretty much has at this point) so it would be a good idea for him to rebrand
The ending in the japanese version is a lot better. There's no cheesy joke or anything but credits showing what every character we've seen does after the show ends. It's pretty nice. And then the final scene shows Yugi and the gang heading to school saying "The End." I have no clue why 4kids decided to cut those parts out. Also as mediocre/average as this show is, the Japanese version of the soundtrack is so fucking good that it’s probably one of my favorite anime soundtracks ever.
They probably had to cut it because the EDs for kids shows in America have to be 30 seconds or less. I thought the 4Kids OST was also great, in some different ways. It's a shame the OST for GX and onward all went to shit.
Thunder Bird I always thought that Yugi talking about the beginning of a new adventure was alluding to GX which had already been announced by then. I liked the shot of the camera rolling up at the sun since that's how the show started and how GX started, but yeah the corny joke kinda made it feel like there'd be more to wrap up such a big part of our childhood.
One thing that bugs me about this season that it pretends that Yugi has actually grown as a character (he has next to no development tho) and that he is the only one who deserves to have the final duel with Atem, even though even Joey has shown more actual development than Yugi (which is a darn shame). Especially when Kaiba says that Yugi is the real king of games, not just Atem or something like that.... even though throughout the entire show we have time and again witnessed that Atem is the only one that matters as Yugi has literally accomplished nothing of importance to inspire that confidence from Kaiba..... Yugi has had only one important duel before the ceremony duel and that is the one where he dueled Yami Bakura in this very season lol. I adore the concept of what they were going for, but IMO Yugi's lack of development kinda puts a damper on it. I still LOVED the duel dont get me wrong but this detail kinda irks me lol 😂😂😂
Yugi never once developed as a character on his own. He was shown to struggle without Atem multiple times throughout the show and its never addressed once. He then somehow has all the confidence in the world in the final season because the plot demands that he has it now. Atem was always an interesting character but Yugi was more so the plot device for Atem's development which was completely backwards.
@@BraveHeartedHero1 And than years after this duel got the confidence to even told Kaiba off too, like "wait when did you suddenly become able to stand on your own two feet?!"

I really wish they elaborated on the whole trap working on the field thing. When I first saw it, I was like "Wha-this is stupid" but after playing the actual game, I learned that IS a legit mechanic. See, for those who don't know, there's a difference between being targeted by an effect, and using it on the field. If you have a card that can't be targeted by spells, like silent swordsman lv 3 for example, then effects that you have to select a target for won't work. Like enemy controller. However, there are cards like wonder balloons, or sogen that will still work on the card. Obviously the anime wasn't going to go into it, and basically just threw out the invulnerability just because they needed yugi to win, but if this was established in the beginning, I personally would think this would be a really cool moment. Especially for Yugi. He would've thought of a weakness that Kaiba and Atem wouldn't have thought of. ...but I even checked the anime cards, and nope. Just "Unaffected by spells and traps." It gets dumber when you remember how they almost immediately started using those cards on the Gods.
Even if the anime got closer and closer to the real life rules by the end there are still differences between real life rules and anime rules. In the manga it was much simpler. Atem only summoned Obelisk, and Yugi fought it to a draw with a combination of Silent Swordsman, turn jump, and the trap which weakened Obelisk by 500 for each turn it was face down, so they both tied at 2500 attack and took each other out. The anime version makes little sense, not because of certain effects working on the gods, but Yugi only using the Gods as beatsticks and ignoring their special abilities.
I know it's like pissing in the wind but in regards to the hair colors, they really should've reversed it between Siegfried and Leon. Give Leon the bright color and Siggy the darker shade since hair colors becoming darker as one gets older is actually something that happens.
I see what you mean but considering that they wanted to "conseal" that fact Leon is the little brother to Siegfried (as said in this video that Leon didn't have a dumb voice), giving Leon the lighter hair colour and Siegfried the darker one, would just result in people seeing Siegfried as the eviler Leon and possibly would think that the pair were related in some way. It would be too obvious that they were brothers or something, by making Leon look just like a younger Siegfried.
It makes me sad, all those oneshot characters in the tournament and we see none of their decks. The potential for funny doctor, magician, cowboy and other themed decks was totally wasted. I mean its filler, they could at least have fun with it like in season 4

Not sure if this is worth using the premiere feature on, but it's more appropriate than how most other channels have used it, as this is the series finale. Kudos to you.
The Japanese ending showed some interesting shots like Zigfried and Leon getting a deal with Pegasus as well as Mai and Vivian dueling against the Paradox brothers.
I think all of Gold Experience's powers seem in line with that theme except for the one where animals he creates hurt you if you attack them - appropriately, this ability was only ever used twice.
I always thought Bakura's new powers, like time reversal & invisibility, were game mechanics of the "Dark RPG" that Yami Yugi could have also used if he knew how/about them. Which is cheap, but makes at least a little more sense.
fun fact. the yugi vs bakura duel in duelist kingdom was filler. the shadow rpg is actually a built-upon version of the monster world arc from season 0 and it's manga, not their duelist kingdom duel. a lot of these plot-holes are actually non-existent in the manga, as the anime changed and removed several scenes that were in the manga.
Still bugs me that Kaiba didn't have Zigfried arrested. I mean, he fired the Big Five and they were taken by Noah, so that got rid of that idea, but Ziggy just got to walk away scot free. I'm like... no! Kaiba, this man committed several crimes against your company and tried to destroy your database. I'm pretty sure that warrants a call to the police
Yugi destroying the God cards in the final duel is actually extremely clever. The God cards can’t be TARGETED by Spells and Traps, Yugi exploits this - that ‘Ground Erosion’ trap targets the Monster ZONE, so his comment about effecting the ground under Obelisk is 100% correct. As for Magnet Force, it works differently than the real world version, but the effect is ‘shift that effect to an appropriate monster’. I don’t know if you play the actual game, but in Yu-Gi-Oh, the exact wording is very important. ‘Cannot be targeted’ can be avoided by using things like Raigeki and Mirror Force, where the card simply destroys all monsters. ‘Cannot be destroyed’ can be avoided by using ‘Send to the Graveyard’ effects - it has to include the actual word ‘destroy’. That’s why the characters all talk about having to find the fatal flaw/weakness/exploit in the God cards; Yugi finds out it is the wording, thus all his cards don’t target unless they are effecting his own monsters; just a cool fact about the duel

@@black97_0 yes thats exactly what I'm sayingl in the manga the orichalcos arc never existed and neither does the kc cup sure there might've been a time skip between battle city and the beginning of dawn of the duels so if we're going off by the canon seasons (so season 1,2, 3b and 5) Atem really only had Ra for a short time
@@Pokegirl3515 yeah but Atem - memory or not - is a smart guy. He could take the time while making his deck for ceremonial duel, to read the chant.
Granted this whole debate wouldn't even exist if Atem had his eyes open while holding Ra to his face.

@@black97_0 i'll give you that, Atem isn't known as the king of games for nothing and Marik did say "only select people can read ras chant by heart" or something like that so i guess by the end Atem figured that now that he knows Egyptian he can read the chant now

After grandpa and the surviving kush soldier makes it though to the next room though with the pharaoh, the kush soldier surviving tells gramps that he wasn't letting gramps have the treasure, so he pulls out a pistol and shoots him in the shoulder but then the pharaoh comes out and does some egyptian mind breakery and fucking sends the other kush soldier to hell.

out of the tournament-focused arcs in DM, the KC Grand Championship is my favorite, mainly because of the focus on a simple tournament with no world-ending stakes. The Von Schroders were memorable as duelists with my favorite being Zigfried's Valkyrie deck. To me, KC Championship is what an actual cardbattle anime tourney should be: Giving development to the secondary characters and still have great duels. What kills it of course, is the Golden Castle's effects & the pointless 4th wall breaks.
I still say this Tournament Arc should've been focused around Joey Winning it and not making him seem like a dumbass. Why did Yugi need to play in this Tournament again?!
I'm with you on that one; if they'd allowed Joey to at least beat sigfried we'd have gotten that rematch they blue balled us with at the end of Battle City. Hell I'd go further and make it so Mai got to participate.

So all ATMs are a YuGiOh reference?
“A vulture & owl share baked goods” is a good way to remember it.

The ending in the japanese version is a lot better. There's no cheesy joke or anything but credits showing what every character we've seen does after the show ends. It's pretty nice.
And then the final scene shows Yugi and the gang heading to school saying "The End."
I have no clue why 4kids decided to cut those parts out.
Also as mediocre/average as this show is, the Japanese version of the soundtrack is so fucking good that it’s probably one of my favorite anime soundtracks ever.
Cue in "Passionate Duelist"
It wouldn't be a yugioh series without 4Kids cutting the ending.
They probably had to cut it because the EDs for kids shows in America have to be 30 seconds or less.
I thought the 4Kids OST was also great, in some different ways. It's a shame the OST for GX and onward all went to shit.
Emmy Quiades still. I don’t know why the fuck they had to edit in that joke at the end. Sort of fucked the ending.
This point is one I've always wondered about too.

Yugi never once developed as a character on his own. He was shown to struggle without Atem multiple times throughout the show and its never addressed once.
@@kyuubinaruto17 Which partially makes sense. Slifer's effect is passive, and Obelisk and Ra's effects are potentially risky
the thing is, the card that Atem was trying to 'no it doesnt work on him'... works on the monster *zone* , not the monster itself.
I know it's like pissing in the wind but in regards to the hair colors, they really should've reversed it between Siegfried and Leon. Give Leon the bright color and Siggy the darker shade since hair colors becoming darker as one gets older is actually something that happens.
I don´t know dude, my hair was a dark brown when i was a kid and now i´m not sure if it is a dark blonde or still brown.
I remember how shocked I was to see Exodia and the Egyptian Gods fail to take down the monster.

"Looking Back on Yu-Gi-Oh GX" sounds pretty good
Yugi destroying the God cards in the final duel is actually extremely clever.
You wanted a better way to end the last episode? What about:
OCEAN MAN, TAKE ME BY THE HAND
