Here's the thing. People in the 80s didn't really listen to songs from the 40s. But here we are, 40 years later and these songs are still popular and loved across the world. The 80s were special man. Special and real.
I think some people did listen to music from the 40s during the 80s, but they were in their late 50s at least or probably in their 60s or more, and they also didn't have RUclips back then, they had to rely on records, the radio, cassettes etc. There also wasn't as much music recorded in the 40s as there was in the 80s. Don't get me wrong, I totally think the 80s is the best music there is hands down, but we just have to relate the complete picture (and context most importantly) to truly compare.
You're one of those people on this earth who got to enjoy the 1980s firsthand, consider yourself fortunate. The 1980s and 1990s are my favorite decades ever. It would have been nice to have been an adult in the 1980s and 1990s, but at least I got to enjoy the 1990s as a kid and then teenager. I remember the 90's very vividly but I can't say that about the 1980s as I was just seven-years old when the 1980s ended at midnight on January 1, 1990.
I am 50 and was a kid when this came out. Time seems to have slipped away. I have parents that are still alive that love Lionel Richie. I will have to say I am lucky to remember seeing this on MTV along with the LP. Time were a lot simpler at the time.

During the 80s, I thought pop songs like this one were very cheesy. But now I'm amazed how good and complex they actually were. For example African/Caribbean traditional music is awesomely incorporated into this song, and as a 46 year metalhead I love it!
Same here except I'm a hip hop head. Looking back, the music we had on the radio was so much more musically interesting than much of what is available now.
I've always loved the multicultural theme of the song you have a clash of African American, Yoruba West African, and Caribbean themes. Lionel Ritchie himself created a whole new language inspired by the various languages spoken in Africa just to give the video a touch of authenticity. But I guess the 80s weren't ready for it, Marty Mcfly from Back to the future once said "I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it".
***** it is. people eventually forget the worst of it. just think that the next time you hear some trash on the radio: "I will be here when you are buried".
I’m here because of the passing of one Mr. Shabba-Doo. He was in the Movie Breakin, and Breakin 2. He also choreographed this song, All Night Long. My you RIH my brother. You have done some great work.
Awesome work ! I watch breaking 1 and 2 so many times and this video choreograph was top notch you could see his moves in all the dancers except for poppin taco and Turbo, they had there own but still under shabadoo
My mom used to play this when I was a kid. She said it reminded her of her trip to Jamaica 🤷♀️ She died last September at 68 years old and I’m glad she shared some awesome music with me. 😊
I'm sorry for your loss ❤️. Isn't it great that we have songs that bring back memories, though?! That's what led me to this song. It makes me think of my parents, too
The Alt Knight wanting police officers to treat all races equally is asking for too much? When are police officers going to start murdering unarmed non-threatening white people by shooting them in the back or choking them out?
All in all kid/sir there's a lot of racism among police and they do things a lot of times without reason "to black people". THERE WILL NEVER BE PIECE ON THIS SUBJECT...YOU WHITES NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE OR WHAT YOUR DOING WHETHER YOU ARE FRIENDS WITH BLACKS MOSTLY ARE PREJUDICE AND YOU AIN'T GONNA CHANGE THAT BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW..YOUR JUST THAT IGNORANT!!!! YOU'S TRY TO ACT LIKE YOUR NOT BUT YOUR ARE BECAUSE IT'S SOCIETY AND THAT WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE AIR...SO EVERYONE JUST SHUT UP AND DO WHAT YOU DO...GOD WILL GIVE EVERYONE THEIR SHARE OF WHAT THEIR DEEDS WERE ON EARTH.....TRUST ME!! AND THERE'S NO ESCAPING HIM!!!!
I could point out the black-on-black crime and the racism that exists in this country and Africa among black people, even to such a tribal degree that a genocide took place in Rwanda... but your politicized, ideologically-pure mind is likely immune to fact and reason.
Bullshit, I'm white and racism here in South Africa is worse for us whites here, everyday the media spin crap about whites, political figures threaten genocide against us, so shut your trap fucking dumbass.
There was someone across the street from me playing this outside, so I wanted to check out the video because I remember loving it when it came out. Still wonderful (and this from someone who was almost strictly post-punk at the time). Love the colors, the good feelings, the dancing… and now I know it still makes me smile 40 (yikes!) years on.
I'm very pleased to read a line from you .... I sent you a comment here because i see you always liking my post and comment.. thanks for your continuous love and support . How long since you have being my fan and being listening to my music !!!
Watching this video feels like rediscovering a piece of my soul-every note brings back memories wrapped in time, flooding my heart with joy and nostalgia. It’s as if the music taps into an unspoken language that only my heart can understand, making me feel both alive and at peace.
2:02 _In Lionel Richie’s song “All Night Long,” the African elements primarily come from a chant in the middle section, which includes phrases like “Jambo” (meaning “hello” in Swahili) and “Tam bo li de say de moi ya.” However, Richie later revealed that most of these lyrics are actually gibberish, created when he lacked time to hire a translator for authentic African lyrics._ 😂😂😂

The song is a pop masterpiece, but my favorite part is when the horns come in near the end, and the harmonies saying "all night". So dope.
yep need more horns in songs these days
Yeah, the harmonies were superb!
Richard Marx said in one of his interview that he is one of the background singers singing "all night".
Frrom 2:43 to the end , joyful harmony

I wish the 80's were back!
I don’t know how i end up in here, 2020 will be over in 7days, this is absolutely what i need to hear! 😩😩
I also needed this song on Christmas
@@xosemiguel7149 hello merry Christmas 🎄❤️
me too, and 65 years old!!
music of j o olympics in los angeles 1984....
Hello how are you doing today
During the 80s, I thought pop songs like this one were very cheesy. But now I'm amazed how good and complex they actually were. For example African/Caribbean traditional music is awesomely incorporated into this song, and as a 46 year metalhead I love it!
Monday night football made me come here 😅
Same. It reminded me of riding dirt bikes as a child. And in a shredder of a guitar player. For over 40 years
Same here except I'm a hip hop head.
Lol not at all I loved this when it came out. You have probably softened a little since your metal days so can appreciate it more
It's 2024 & I'm still jammin to the 1980's😎
OF COURSE
Like you should 😂🤙

Myself too👍
The 80s were the best
No racial or color line. Just people coming together in general enjoying themselves & each other's company. That's the world that I yearn for.
Me too.
Yeah can’t sing along to many new songs... packed with N-word
Que voz que tenía este Grone

...and where there is no need for such comment, bc no one would notice need to comment on smth like that ;)
I'm a 90s kid and been on an 80s music binge the last week. Idk how to explain it but there's just something magical about 80s music.
Breakdancing was ace
@@red420rustler3 Yea it really made the choreography and helped set the fun and energetic atmosphere.
80s music is just way less self conscious than 90s music, there's more of a sincere desire to please about it (and I like plenty of 90s music too)
It was a time before western culture got wrecked. Music, art, theater, pop culture in the 80s was a golden Era.
@@bruceperkins2921 With how 2023 western culture is, your comment couldn't be anymore true. The difference is MASSIVE.

A natural portrayal of "acceptance & playfulness" with Lionel Richie. Thank you.
R.I.P Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quinones. The man who so brilliantly choreographed this beautiful masterpiece of a music video 🙏🏽👑❤
❤
why can't music be as good as this?
I feel you man
***** it is. people eventually forget the worst of it. just think that the next time you hear some trash on the radio: "I will be here when you are buried".
***** I'd be happy with a video like this today. sadly most videos these days are trash compared to this.
***** There are various pockets of good feel good music its just that the music/artist(s) don't get its shine in the spotlight
***** Because you're too close-minded

I’m here because of the passing of one Mr. Shabba-Doo. He was in the Movie Breakin, and Breakin 2. He also choreographed this song, All Night Long. My you RIH my brother. You have done some great work.
I just read on Instagram that he passed!! The world is indeed going to miss his genius and his talent.
Awesome work ! I watch breaking 1 and 2 so many times and this video choreograph was top notch you could see his moves in all the dancers except for poppin taco and Turbo, they had there own but still under shabadoo
He appears in this song!
Isn't Turbo in this video too?
and Lela Rochon has absolutely no rhythm lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s 2020 in COVID 19 and this song is still a vibe!
Its Saturday, for me it's sit back, crack a few beers and remember these times.... So great.

It's mind blowing 🤯
I'm going on with the best of the music
This is a masterpiece still at 2022, very clean production, mixing and mastering top notch.
I use this as a reference track for mastering my own stuff. I also use toto africa. Great stuff.
My mom used to play this when I was a kid. She said it reminded her of her trip to Jamaica 🤷♀️ She died last September at 68 years old and I’m glad she shared some awesome music with me. 😊

This song was at the opening of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984
I'm sorry for your loss ❤️. Isn't it great that we have songs that bring back memories, though?! That's what led me to this song. It makes me think of my parents, too
lll
This is one of a few music videos where all the races seem happy and enjoy dancing together. This makes me feel really nostalgic.
Bullshit, I'm white and racism here in South Africa is worse for us whites here, everyday the media spin crap about whites, political figures threaten genocide against us, so shut your trap fucking dumbass.
directed to every stupid person here who thinks blacks have it the worst, they really don't, everyone gets they're share.

There was someone across the street from me playing this outside, so I wanted to check out the video because I remember loving it when it came out. 30 December 2020 - We just lost Shabba-Doo, famed dancer and choreographer of this very video. RIP, Shabba-Doo, you will be missed.
As I just posted, his death is indeed a shock as he just posted the day before. Rest in Paradise Shabadoo...you'll be dancing in heaven now.
2:02 _In Lionel Richie’s song “All Night Long,” the African elements primarily come from a chant in the middle section, which includes phrases like “Jambo” (meaning “hello” in Swahili) and “Tam bo li de say de moi ya.” However, Richie later revealed that most of these lyrics are actually gibberish, created when he lacked time to hire a translator for authentic African lyrics._
