      The fun part about Germania 94 is, in my opinion at least, their tendency to move venues over time… they originally started north of the river, then moved around there, then south to Sandhöfer Wiesen („Sandhof Meadows“, close to the river Main, to the west of Sachsenhausen and at the district border to Niederrad where the German Championship final was played in 1920 - unfortunately, the original grounds badly deteriorated after/during WW2, and in the mid-1970s you couldn‘t really tell that this used to be a football ground with a 30k capacity…), then…uhm… wandered around? in the south, and are currently at Mainwasen („Main Meadows“) close to the river again, but on the opposite, eastern side of the Sachsenhausen district, between Oberrad and the river.

    It might be interesting to know, that East German clubs did follow a "naming rule". Under socialism, there were no professional sports, so they were company sports communities (BSG = "Betriebssportgemeinschaft". Clubs with “Dynamo” belonged to the internal security organs. “Lokomotive” for railroad companies, ‘Traktor’ for forestry, ‘Vorwärts’ (Forward) for military clubs, etc.
    This led to name creations such as: BSG Rotation Babelsberg, HSG Technische Hochschule Dresden (HSG Sciences University of Technologies Dresden) or BSG Aktivist Schwarze Pumpe (BSG Activist Black Pump).
    A German list can be found online in a Kicker article.

    0:27 Just one Bundesliga team from London? Borussia Hammersmith? :D Just kidding, not trying to be a fusspot or even a smart-arse. Another brilliant video on your channel! Somehow I've always liked that little 'grandstand' of Tennis Borussia's (TeBe's) Mommsenstadion. They should have built a classic football stadium with these kind of stands on all four sides, haha!
    P.S. When I started to get really amazed by football in the 90s as a teenager, there was no team from Berlin in the Bundesliga at all for many years. Hertha BSC was stuck in the second tier even more than today with awful attendances mostly below 10,000 and other clubs from Berlin such as Union, BFC Dynamo (renamed into 'FC Berlin' at that time) and TeBe were in the Regionalliga Nordost (the third tier of German football back then) at best.

  • @eRR0Rq
    @eRR0Rq День назад

    As someone from Berlin, I must admit that Berlin soccer is in a very poor state. 1 team in the Bundesliga and 1 team in the Zweite Bundesliga is kinda the best case scenario. Hertha is highly indebted and doesn't have an own stadium, so I doubt they will make the jump back to the Bundesliga.
    The German partition is the main reason for the poor state. East Berlin clubs didn't have the infrastructure or financial opportunities to reach the Bundesliga, and BFC Dynamo has the Stasi past. And Hertha BSC was the only competitive club in West Berlin with long away journeys because of its geographic isolation.
    However, I also want to blame the Senate of Berlin. The road network in East Berlin is so bad that soccer fans can't use cars to reach the stadiums. And the Senate of Berlin didn't provide any financial help to construct pure soccer stadiums. Hertha BSC was basically forced to use the Olympia Stadium because without Hertha BSC the stadium would have barely any usage. The stadium of SV Lichtenberg 47 is actually the second biggest pure soccer stadium in Berlin with its capacity of 10,000 spectators - I assume this antiquated "stadium" wouldn't even get a permit for 3rd tier football. The Sportforum Berlin / Hohenschönhausen is meant for German competitive sport. For example, some famous swimmers and speed skaters trained there and for a long time Germany's best ice hockey club played there. However, its soccer "stadium" is in a very poor state, and the Senate of Berlin does nothing.
    I have never spectated football in real life but maybe in 2025 I will attend a match of SV Lichtenberg 47 or BFC Dynamo. I live close to where those 2 clubs. Maybe, SV Lichtenberg 47 will make the jump back to 4th tier (Regionalliga Nordost) this season.

    • @eRR0Rq
      @eRR0Rq День назад

      I looked around on Google Maps and I think the "Tempelhofer Feld" would be the ideal spot for a soccer stadium. Part of it lies next to the freeway A100 and the S-Bahn. Actually, before the construction of the airport there was a huge soccer stadium on that spot. The airport was closed 15 years ago and nothing really happened since then.

I think we also know some background story's from 20th December there, I think they need every follower. If you like to cheer for clubs with a special story, try clubs like Heidenheim (with one coach, Frank Schmidt, they went from 5th division all the way up to Conference League) or SV Elversberg, a Club from a city which has 11k residents but they are in 2nd division and maybe they'll get even promoted to Bundesliga. • @ici_marmotte
      @ici_marmotte 2 дня назад +1

      I'm not sure what you mean by history ww2. Do you mean the remains of the Nazi era?
      In that case, next to Berlin, Nuremberg would probably worth seeing. You could visit the documentation centre on the soil of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds including the (unfinished) Congress Hall which was planned for 50,000 seats.
      Nuremberg also has a picturesque historic city just below the castle on the top. But, most importantly, 1. FC Nürnberg (commonly just called 'der Club') is probably one of the most passionate supported clubs in the 2. Bundesliga and was, once upon a time, a real powerhouse in West German football, winning nine championships including Bundesliga titles in the 60s. I guess the historic derby vs. Fürth has to be a very special experience.
      But in case you want to see as many matches as possible and spend much more time than just a few days, more densely populated areas such as the mentioned Rhein-Ruhr area (where I live) or Berlin would be the ones I'd prefer. In Berlin, you have the opportunity to see some clubs and stadiums of the DDR-Oberliga of former East Germany as well.
