The 59 Renault body gets mounted! And we evaluate...🤨

  • Time to do some more work on the Renault/VW Beetle rat rod/hot rod project here at Rat Rods for Africa. I finally bolt the 1959 Renault body onto the shortened, customized and rebuilt VW Beetle floor pan. Then we evaluate the stance. We also see that the fenders will require extensive modifications to accommodate the widened custom VW steely wheels.
    Whilst discussing the option of building widened wheel arches, I notice that something is not quite right...
    You don't want to miss it!😎

    Take front suspension off again fit a 20mm thick spacer between the bulkhead and suspension. That will centalise your wheel in the arch and give u the extra space when raising or lowering the ride height. Amazing build. Gonna look awesome with those flared wheel arches.

    Fortified thinking always adds to creativity. Many vehicles in the 70s and 80s had attached flaired guards. Perhaps there might be something at your local wrecking yard. Can't wait to see how much performance the bug motor gives this car.

      I won't find anything that will suit the unusual curves of the fender. Plan on building my own custom ones🙂

    Hey Diff!
    Here's a Beetle wheel mounting hack.
    Get a punch or rod that fits in the brake drum bolt hole. Stick it through the wheel bolt hole and then into the top hole in the drum. Slide the wheel home and hold onto the punch. The other holes should be easy to line up

    I’d widen the guards instead of flares. It’s a lot more work, but more hot rod style. Whatever you go with it’s still a great project you’re doing.

    Decisions decisions decisions....standard front wheel onto the front instead of the widened ones..and the rear 3 inch strip into the fender..20mm spacer block in your top hat..might solve some bits

    The back one you can add between the fender and body which will move the fender out leaving the shape alone.trace around the fender inside and out on a piece of wood cut and add in between and check the look before bending tubing.the front is harder but you cut the fender and fill the pie cut to match the fender to door but widen the front to match the back fender width.

    Hey Diff,
    What about widening the rear fenders right down the middle on the top of the curve?
    The front ones may present a different problem....maybe narrowing the beam would fix it.

    • @ratrodsafrica
      @ratrodsafrica  3 месяца назад

      Well, I want front and rear to look the same, so we will have to see...I can't narrow the beam, wheels at full steering lock is already very close to the inner fenders/wheel wells
