What you said about Bill Murray is true. My favorite Bill Murray movie is "What About Bob?" But yes behind the scenes Bill Murray tells Richard Dryfuss's character ..nobody will like you...Then Bill Murray ..drunk throws a heavy glass ashtray at Richard Dryfuss's head...missing him by mere inches.

"Out of one's gourd." A European world explorer discovered a remote tribe where the men wore gourds around there "male members." They were otherwise naked, but wore gourds (the more lengthy and elongated the better, get it?) tide in place with natural twine. So to be "out of one's gourd" is to be...well.

This is my favorite Bill Murray movie, and I can't thank you both enough for this reaction, Robert and Vanessa! ❤️❤️ I would hate to relive the same day over and over again, but I enjoy seeing how it's a reluctant and slow progression of Phil's character arc and how he starts to become less selfish and more selfless, giving, and generous, and how his relationship with Rita becomes more natural, endearing, and meaningful at the end. I still tear up over the old man dying, but it really changes Phil in a big way and it definitely makes us reevaluate our own perspectives on life. We should always live life to the fullest, do our best to be kind and helpful to others, and to use our time wisely, for we never know what tomorrow could bring, or if our time comes sooner than we expect it to.

This whole town is real, and it's in Woodstock, IL. I've been a few times, and there's a plaque embedded in the sidewalk in the exact spot that Bill Murray steps in that puddle! Understandably, the town hosts quite the celebration every Groundhog's Day thanks to this movie.

The amount of times I've replayed situations in my head and wished I could actually redo them, I'd gladly do a few groundhog days just to see how things would actually pan out if things were different, even slightly lol. 😅 Of course then I'd want to come back to where my life is currently (atleast for the most part 😅🤣). The homeless elderly man scene always gets me teary eyed.... Ugh. Not just because he died but because of Phil's efforts to care for him after over and over, and keep him alive, to no prevail.. honestly, kinda like the homeless guy in Scrooged, oddly enough. Lol. Great video, glad Vanessa got to watch for the first time! P.s. there's a sort of "sequel" that is a vr game lol. I've not watched any cutscenes of it, or played it, but I know it's supposed to be Phil's son as the main character now and has some returning characters.

"When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter. From Punxsutawney, it's Phil Connors. So long."
Fun Fact: There are exactly 38 days depicted in this film, either partially or in full. The actual time Phil (Bill Murray) spends in his loop can only be guessed at.
Art Imitates Life Fact: The idea of Phil Connors reading to Rita Hanson (Andie MacDowell) while she sleeps came from Bill Murray. His wife drank too much champagne on their wedding night and fell asleep early, so Murray read aloud to her until he too fell asleep.
Location Location Fact: The film was not filmed in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, but actually in Woodstock, Illinois (just fifty miles from Bill Murray's hometown of Wilmette, Illinois). There is a small plaque that reads "Bill Murray Stepped Here" on the curb where Murray continually steps into a puddle. There is another plaque on the building wall at the corner that says "Ned's Corner" where Phil Connors was continually accosted by Ned Ryerson (Stephen Tobolowsky). During the Ned scene the sign for "Woodstock Jewelers" is clearly seen in the background.

I was watching a video on the rise of toxic misogyny role models for boys the other day, when someone said something I thought was pretty astute. “Men think they’re competing against the top ten or twenty percent of other men for a woman’s attention, when really they’re just competing against the joy a woman takes in her solitude.”
When viewed through that lease, oh my god… why aren’t we forcing more incels to watch this movie, Clockwork Orange style if we have to?!! You don’t attract women by telling them what they want to hear or giving them things, you attract women by being a genuinely good, genuinely interesting person.

You mentioned the anxiety of not knowing when you'd get out of the time loop. There's a game called Returnal that deals with that exact scenario. You crash on an alien planet, and every time you die, you wake up and do it over again. In this case, it's both a storytelling element and an expression of the game mechanics as you figure out what you have to do to escape.

I'd recommend looking into the Groundhog Day musical, the soundtrack is actually very cleverly done, with a lot of word play around Phil's name (such as "Philanthropy" and "Philandering"), and about the passage of time, and the meta commentary of actors having to repeatedly perform the same show over and over just as the characters play out the same day over and over.

He could have bailed on the whole Punxsutawney story one morning, called a cab at 6:05 am, and been back in Pittsburgh before the storm hit and closed the road. It's only about 75 miles. But, when it comes to fantasies like this movie, you have to give the producers some poetic license. For instance, there is no sound in the vacuum of space, but if we didn't give George Lucas a little wiggle room here, we wouldn't have been able to hear those cool seismic charge explosion sounds when Jango was trying to lose Obi-Wan in the asteroid field during that cool chase in Attack of the Clones.
