    @joshuaweston6531 Год назад +14

    Wow, I guess people really don't think alike. All respect to your opinions, and it is a fine list. Mine, however, looks pretty different. Here's mine:
    12. El Gigante (Second Encounter): It's just El Gigante again for a second time, only now it chases you. If you choose to fight it, you now have the honor of trying to keep Ashley alive. This ranks at the bottom because it's a reused boss with no new mechanics. It's not bad, just unnecessary.
    11. Twin El Gigante: It's El Gigante, but two of them instead of one. Sticking two of an enemy in an arena and calling it a new encounter just feels like a rehash. Dragonriders, anyone? At least you get to dump one in a pool of boiling hot lava. That's the most satisfying thing about this repetitive battle.
    10. Mutated Salazar: Dodge tentacles, shoot the moving eyeball and then unload on Ramon as he sits there and takes the abuse. This fight definitely ranks lower because Ramon remains stationary throughout it. I don't know how this guy is so high on your list. He's not a bad boss by any means, but compared to what else is on offer in this game, it's an underwhelming encounter. Now the REmake on the other hand...
    09. Mutated Krauser (Separate Ways): This second fight with Krauser feels tacked on. He should already be dead considering he exploded (but apparently not). He just sorta shows up and we kill him as Ada now. The whole thing is over rather quickly, and the multiple platforms you fight him on are just too cramped. The only reason this ranks as high as it does is because Krauser is still fun to duel.
    08. Mutated Saddler: I am not overly thrilled with this "final boss" battle. I'll agree that the design is good. Saddler transforms into something genuinely grotesque and terrifying. And yeah, it's got the tried and true shoot the glowing orbs mechanic. On paper, this should be a riveting end battle, but it's kinda just there. It's not bad, but not super memorable either. It's a lot of running around and trying not to get trampled before firing a rocket into his mouth/eye?
    07. El Gigante: In retrospect, overuse hurts this boss to a degree. Not only is it used twice after this, but the series continued to shove out versions of this guy in RE5 and RE6. That being said, this initial encounter is still really good and memorable. His sheer size is intimidating and you really gotta stay on your toes and keep moving to avoid pretty hefty damage. Plus the doggo helps you, and that's always nice!
    06. Mutated Saddler (Separate Ways): I personally prefer the fight with Saddler in Separate Ways. It's a unique encounter that only Ada gets and the enclosed space just ratchets up the tension way more than the vast amount of space you have to flee in the other one. Saddler is imposing in this fight and can close the gap on you in a second!
    05. Del Lago: The scale and scope of this encounter really is something special for an introductory boss. Mechanically, it's relatively simple, but this is all about the spectacle! Not being able to use your gear for the duration of this fight makes it stand out as unique amongst the pack. I do wonder where those endless harpoons came from though. 🤔
    04. Mutated Krauser: How can anyone not like a brutal, one on one duel to the death? You get to knife duel Krauser and it's pretty satisfying. It's made infinitely better in the REmake, but this original version is held back from the top three mainly for the reason that you can damage Krauser as much as you want, but it doesn't really matter until you reach the final area where the "true" duel begins. It's really just a matter of staving Krauser off until you reach the next area. In the REmake, this is cut down considerably. Even so, Krauser is still fun to fight.
    03. U3: honestly, my top three are pretty much interchangeable. For today, I'm going with this order. One of the tensest sections in the game is here with this abomination. I like how the fight is divided into two phases, with the first trapping you in a cage with IT. Having to try to figure out what to do while this seemingly invincible monster harasses you is definitely stress inducing. On top of that, it's design is really freaky and highly memorable. It's repulsive and scary. Then in the second phase, it shows it's true form!
    02. Mutated Mendez: I love the setting of this fight. Just you and some creepy part centipede, part human monstrosity that looks like something out of the movie The Thing, trapped inside a burning barn with no way out. All the while during the fight the whole place is quickly burning up around Leon! It's creepy, atmospheric and relatively challenging. I also really like the "oh s**t" moment when Mendez separates from the lower half of his body and starts swinging around the rafters! Only Resident Evil folks! It's an excellent boss battle. One where the only way out is through!
    01. Verdugo: I cannot for the life of me understand anyone disliking the encounter with Verdugo. I know you gave reasons as to why, but just...how? First off, this is one of the creepiest sections in this game. You're slowly hunted by this things tail before fully revealing itself. The build up is slow and does a great job of putting the player on edge with what to expect. When it does finally reveal itself, you find yourself staring at some sort of Xenomorph looking thing with an insect shell and a partially human head...it's awesome! From there, it's a desperate game of survival as you wait for the elevator. The great thing is too, if you don't want to fight it, you can just leave. Not immediately, sure, but the option is there. As a reward to players who see it through, you can loot it's corpse for treasure! And yeah, this thing takes A Lot of rounds to put down! The fight is an investment to be sure, but one that pays off in the end. Personally, I find it uber satisfying to put Verdugo down. I can't even imagine taking the elevator ever again...

    RE4 personally has no bad boss fights. Every fight has something different and it kind of depends on personal taste. I’m not sure if I have a favorite since 4 was my first RE game and I was still learning the mechanics of the game and the moveset of the bosses. But they were pretty fun nonetheless, even if some parts (such as QTEs in the fights) were a bit tedious.

  • @wolfwood1993
    @wolfwood1993 Год назад +8

    Horrible take on Verdugo. Christ. Use incendiary grenades to stun him and a magnum/TMP when he's frozen. If you're using the rifle/shotgun at any time in this fight you're doing it wrong. Think smarter not harder. You need to deal as much damage as you can in a small window of time. Sure his attacks can be bullshit in the first locked room but once you get out it's fair game. Even with just one incendiary grenade (which you can find right before the fight) plus the Co2 tank, the door unlocks within seconds after using both. Shoot him in the head when he's unfrozen if you absolutely have to, it's vulnerable and it will knock him back with enough damage whereas his body is mostly invulnerable until he's frozen. However shooting his face will most likely make him sprint at you. You just gotta hold onto that incendiary (if you don't already have any saved) for as long as you can after your first Co2 tank then run to the next one after the door opens. This is one of the best bosses in the game, everything you said is just wrong. If you don't have a TMP or magnum you're making it artificially difficult for yourself and whatever frustration you experience is your own fault for not preparing adequately.

    U3 is honestly my favorite boss in this game by far. It's such an odd and terrifying creature. I hope it gets more lore and explanation in the remake. Why does RE5 have a U8 despite it not having any relation to this one? Is it possibly the village chief (This is a common theory though I doubt it)? I just want a sliver of more info on it in the remake.

    Great video, Jack! RE 4 was my introduction to the series, and, when I first played it, it initially made it into my top 10 favorite games. It's fallen a very long ways since then (it ranks around #160 for me now -- yes, I'm not even kidding), but it's still a solid game that I enjoyed playing.
    Of the bosses on here that I fought (never played Separate Ways), this is my ranking:
    1. Bitores Mendez
    2. U-3
    3. Del Lago
    4. El Gigante
    5. Garrador
    6. Verdugo
    7. Jack Krauser
    8. Saddler
    9. Salazar
    I'll exclude Dr. Salvador and the Rosa Sisters, as I just count them as mini-bosses, personally.
    For me, the main reason why Salazar is my least favorite is that I just find the fight rather tedious. I never use the rocket launchers on these bosses, so, for Salazar, it mainly came down to standing beside one of the tentacles, firing at his weak-spot, and using QTEs to dodge when I needed to. For Verdugo, I actually did manage to kill him by using the shotgun on him repeatedly while he was frozen. I'm not sure if it's always an effective strategy, but that was my personal experience with the fight. I've mentioned in the past that I'm not a big fan of QTEs, so that definitely taints my opinions of a lot of the bosses. Still, I have a fun time fighting most of them.
    I definitely agree with Bitores Mendez being the best boss. He has the most versatile moveset, and the cramped arena lends itself well to making the fight feel extra intense. I've often wondered if the revelation of Mendez's true form was an homage to Wilbur Whatley from "The Dunwich Horror" by H.P. Lovecraft (basically, the character turned out to be the spawn of a human and an Outer God and had a tentacled torso beneath his clothes). It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case, as the opening section in the village is reminiscent of "The Shadow over Innsmouth," another one of Lovecraft's most famous stories.
    The design of U-3 kind of reminds me of the Centaurs from the Fallout series, which is fitting, since they're both amongst the creepiest-looking monsters in their respective franchises.
    Anyway, I'm enjoying your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!
