    I can see how people would think that rooney was offside for the first goal. However, he is not in the goalies line of sight, and did not interfere with play, hence the goal rightly stood. And the penalty could have gone either way. Yes there was no contact, but it was reckless by the goalkeeper. And anyone who thought Fellaini committed a foul for his goal are really clutching at straws. He simply outmuscles the Preston defender. Football is a physical sport. And whoever is going on about how we had to "cheat" to beat a League One club, every other big side has either struggled or been turfed out by a lesser team i.e. Chelsea 2-4 Bradford

  • @EpicSauce12345
    @EpicSauce12345 10 лет назад +180

    Alright. Here's my view on it. For the first United goal. The law states that if he doesn't touch the ball, the goal can still be called back if he makes a distracting movement or is in the goalies line of sight. Rooney was definitely not in the goalies line of sight, and I dont think moving your left leg back to try and get out of the way of being off side is a distracting movement at all. Purely the goalies fault for not diving. He never should of hesitated because if it had hit Rooney it would've been offside. Sorry but that's true. The goalie didn't even see Rooeny until he plotted the flight of the ball, and should've been able to save it easily. Poor keeping. The second goal was fine. The third United goal was a penalty and I'll tell you why. The law states that a direct free kick should be awarded for multiple other offenses OTHER THAN contact. That includes reckless force. When the goalie came charging out, two feet in the tackle, it's enough for the referee to deem it reckless force and give the penalty, despite minimal contact. I think had the goalie gone in hands first it would've been different, but he didn't.

    • @kylequincy1761
      @kylequincy1761 10 лет назад +3

      Exactly. I don't think most people understand what is a penalty and what is not.

    • @paulsreay1
      @paulsreay1 10 лет назад +11

      offside and then a dive. we shouldnt expect anything better from utd. and that point you made about rooney being offside but it didnt matter cos he didnt touch the ball. thats not the rule. you dont have to touch the ball to be offside, you just made that up. most offsides given by the linesman are when the player hasnt touched the ball. learn the rules.

    • @misterff1629
      @misterff1629 10 лет назад +14

      He wasn't offside.
      He didn't dive.
      True, United got the benefit of the decisions on the day. but of course United have an exclusive claim to good fortune. No other club has ever benefitted from it in the entire history of the game. Right? Henchoz didn't didn't get away with a series of handballs in the 2001 FA Cup Final for instance, did he?

      Bilbo Baggins No, I am a ManU fan. But I also like the underdog and believe in honesty and fairness. The FA Cup is the best example in sports where every team has their chance to win. Sometimes there's a bit of luck and other times it's the call of a ref that can change the game and clearly this is what I believe happened...my heart feels for the underdog...you wont get a more honest answer than that...that said, bring on Arsenal...and go ManU go...and Go Bradford City go!!

    If under the current laws Rooney is deemed as not interfering for United's first goal, then the laws need a serious review.

    • @ItsAv3rageGamer
      @ItsAv3rageGamer 10 лет назад

      Agreed, even the most biased United fan can't tell me the keeper wouldn't have gotten there if Rooney hadn't been in the way. He couldn't see the flight of the ball because of where Rooney was, if he wasn't in the way, he saves it. The idea that you have to touch the ball to interfere with play is stupid.

    • @craziewill
      @craziewill 10 лет назад +12

      Av3rage_Gamer you're both wrong.. Rooney did NOT interfere the flight of the ball or goalkeeper's view.. If his view was blocked that was from his own defenders.. Rooney was OUTSIDE the flight path of the ball than inside.. So the goalkeeper would not have saved it..

    • @cymruisrael
      @cymruisrael 10 лет назад +1

      craziewill If Tiote's goal last season for Newcastle against Manchester City was disallowed for offside, then United's first goal should have been disallowed last night. There has to be consistency from the officials.

    • @dile27
      @dile27 10 лет назад +1

      cymruisrael Tiote's goal should have stood !! and may be you're having parallax issues ! The GK's view WASN'T blocked by Rooney's presence ! He clearly wasn't in his line of sight !!!!! If that was the case, GK would have been standing in front of his right post ! You don't need to be a specialist in optics to see that !!!

    • @cymruisrael
      @cymruisrael 10 лет назад

      dile27 It wasn't me who said that Rooney blocked the keeper's view. I personally think that a player moving sideways on the 6 yard line directly in front of the goal is interfering with play. Rooney knows he is offside, yet moves sideways, making no attempt to get onside.
      I know the current wording of the laws disagrees with me, which is why I think the laws need rewriting.
      And by the way, my brother in law is an optometrist and he says my eyesight is fine :-)

    I would have ruled United's first goal out, for off-side. While Rooney doesn't touch the ball or block the keepers line of sight, he does distract the keeper. Arguably it's the keepers fault though, as Rooney merely moved a foot. So the referee shouldn't get too much stick, was a 50/50 decision.
    I think the United penalty decision was correct. The keeper goes for a slide tackle, misses the ball which forces Rooney to jump over him. The upon landing, Rooney catches the ground. Regardless of whether he hit the ground with his foot on purpose or not, it was a foul.
    With a better keeper it could have been 1-1.

    1st goal: glamour it up all you want, that should be called offside.
    2nd goal: clear push by Fellaini... how else do you think he won the initial header?
    3rd goal: no explanation needed
    Now Preston know how it feels to be screwed over by United!

      could u BE trying any harder? Even Simon Grayson said it was a penalty. The same Simon Grayson that's managing Preston. The challenge by PNE's GK was rash, and had Rooney not jumped to evade the challenge, Utd would not only get a penalty, but have Rooney out injured for a month or two

      Rooney was offside. but, he didn't touch the ball which made it a goal

    • @craziewill
      @craziewill 10 лет назад +33

      1) Rooney was offside but he didn't touch the ball or interfere the goalkeeper. It's a GOAL.
      2) Referee had a clear view of that second goal and he didn't blow the whistle. It's a GOAL.
      3) Top level sports has no room for HONESTY.. GK lunged recklessly with 2 footed, Rooney jumped out of safety but he had the goalie in his pocket.. On your FIFA, it's not a penalty, in reality - it's a penalty.

    • @jgyj95
      @jgyj95 10 лет назад +7

      ***** you are right, there wasn't any contact, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a foul by the goalkeeper. There are many red cards that have been given when there wasn't any contact (eg. studs up, double footed). According to the FA's rules, it is a foul/penalty when an offence is committed "in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force". Whether there was contact or not, it doesn't matter

    • @craziewill
      @craziewill 10 лет назад +2

      ***** that warrants a foul by itself? Patrick Viera was sent off when he attempted to kick Ruud Van Nistelrooy when he was barged down by the Dutchman.. No contact was made but it was a dangerous attempt.. Vincent Kompany was sent off for his two footed challenge on the ball although he got the ball first.. Yes it was a "clean" tackle but a dangerous tackle..

  • @nedeljkodjukic88
    @nedeljkodjukic88 10 лет назад

    First manutd goal - offside, second - foul, third - it can be a foul if there's no contact at all, because the tackle is too dangerous, but rooney could've stayed on his feet. He decided a dive is much better option. At least it wasn't ashley young this time...

      First goal wasn't offside, second goal the defender didn't complain when Fellaini pussy pushed him so you should stop bitching

    • @nedeljkodjukic88
      @nedeljkodjukic88 10 лет назад

      Nathaniel C. First goal was offside - Rooney didn't touch the ball but he clearly affected the play, learn the rules. The second goal was a foul - are you saying the referees should wait for a player to complain to give them a foul!?

    • @NDCSD
      @NDCSD 10 лет назад

      ***** Rooney didn't make a play for the ball, he wasn't blocking the vision of the goalie, no offside. Whether you say its offside or not, the ref said it wasn't so I'm terribly sorry that Manchester United would have won anyway you see it. What I ment by the second goal was that if the defenders didn't think it was a foul then why would the ref think it was a foul? It wasn't even really a push, the guy got back to defending Fellaini and Fellaini got the ball, why not blame Preston for not being good enough?

    • @nedeljkodjukic88
      @nedeljkodjukic88 10 лет назад

      Nathaniel C. Look at the keeper at the first goal - he would've stretched for the ball, but he expected Rooney to play it, because he was in the path of the ball. Same thing happened in Basel-Porto in CL and the goal was disallowed, cause the players were affecting goalies judgement. And Fellaini clearly used his right hand to prevent that guy from jumping, thus gaining crucial advantage. Like crouch does always. Some players/clubs, just get away with it

    • @NDCSD
      @NDCSD 10 лет назад

      ***** but why would the keeper try to block Rooneys shot if the keeper knew it would be offside if he hit it?

      That's ridiculous, Rooney had already avoided the tackle, it would have taken out his trailing leg, not planting leg, so the tackle isn't the issue. Rooney saw it coming, avoided it and then dropped to the floor. He could have easily stayed on his feet, he wasn't off balance at all. Rooney just buckled his planting leg, even though it wasn't affected by the tackle at all.

      No thanks, and although I'm an American, I'll always take a good FOOTBALL MATCH over even our own "handegg" every single time!!! #COYG!!! As for my attention span, at least although I have ADHD I can definitely stay focused on the football pitch on the tube for 90 minutes (plus stoppage time), ET, and penalties if it is needed. I know that I can't suddenly dart out to the men's room for a second because in THIS football, you blink, you just might miss something!!! 90 minutes of unscripted drama that even the elite in Hollywood could NEVER duplicate.

    I love Man United but boy do I miss the days when Fergie could field a B team and still win these matches. This is arguably the best XI they could have fielded without Carrick and they barely deserved the win. Between the Rooney dive, the possible foul on the Fellaini goal and the Valencia give away I could easily see Preston winning this 2-1.
