Summed it up perfectly. It’s the “one and done” mentality. When i go back to play the old games, I actually have an itch, an excitement to start a new campaign save. For the last four or 5 games, i have played through them one time and one time only.
I never even beat the MWII reboot campaign because they reset it after the beta and didn't even bother to allow carrying saves over. Just lost interest after that. I will say that I thought Cold War had a really awesome campaign. I liked having some choices and the less-than-linear approach to mission progression, and the feeling of really being wrapped up in Cold War espionage. But besides that, the most memorable campaigns for me were a LONG time ago: Black Ops 1 and Call of Duty 1 & 2. Everything after Black Ops felt stale and uninteresting, save for Cold War and to a lesser extent WWII. Oh, and Vanguard had some GREAT characters...too bad they wasted almost the entire campaign fleshing out their back stories instead of having them kick ass together. It was like the prologue for a story we'll probably never see.
Absolutely! They had the community in the palm of their hands with that campaign, they had their attention and everything and completely ruined it by using Warzone to expand the story.
Ya know, I almost forgot about 2019's campaign. That was a good one, and you're right, they cheapened it afterward. They turned it into a vehicle to sell microtransactions.
I miss when the campaigns were made with passion :(

YES! This is a perfect way to describe it, the one and done mentality!

MW2019 had it down perfectly but ruined it the moment they started using Warzone to expand the story
