I lived in Eugene then. I was 13 almost 14. Our school, Cascade Jr. High School had a flat roof, over big spans. Not usually a problem in Eugene, right? My older brother joined a group of volunteers to help shovel off the roofs. But before they could start, the gym and the math lab roofs fell in. We got even more days off than other Eugene kids did!

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of this event quite appropriately if I do say so myself.

1969, when Oregon was for us local Oregonians. My family arrived in Oregon in 1840. A full decade before the Applegate Pioneers had even left Missouri. My family arrived by a 3 Mast Clipper Ship called the ‘Lausanne’. My folks remember the Columbus day storm and this Big Snow of 1969. There was another unseasonable snow storm in April back in the 1970’s.

I remember that. We talked about it for years. Bend got a really heavy spring snow that year.
