When you have a robot battle, the music is vastly different. It’s more electric based. If you didn’t think the difference in levels was vast when jaja came away from robot then….. @@Carl_POP_Murray you are in a way correct (when I say, 'in a way' people can be subjective and its all opinions). Jaja has a style that is more suited to a 'performance' than a battle dance. For eg one of the best pop/liquid artists i ever saw was Dave Elsewhere. Now no matter how good he was, he was more of performance artist, than a dance battle, these sort of person are rigid and kind of predictable in their moves and patterns...but as a pure dance may struggle to improvise against say.....MT Pop. Having said all that she has been on the scene long there are video of her more pretty, longer hair and looking trim, she has kid or 2 so maybe harder to keep conditioned for high performance dance battles.
No matter what anyone says, truly loving the music you dance to plays a major part in your performance as a freestyle dancer. So, who wins or loses can vary greatly depending on the music that the DJ plays. I know people say, "You should be able to dance to any kind of music if you are a freestyle dancer" and although that feels true on the first look, the statement is too dismissive. Poppers who have practiced many styles or learned to adapt their style to any kind of music or dancers who never run out of concepts can dance to any music such as Gucchon (Many Styles - Animation, Popping, Boogaloo, House, Locking, etc), Megaman (Bopping/Animate to any type of music), MT Pop (Concept), Monsta Pop (Concept), or Future (Concept). However, there is a large subset of dancers who like to explore one style like Seen/Jaja (Animation), Liquid Kevin (Liquid), etc. and these dancers will not be able to dance to any type of music. These dancers are commonly known as the geeks of their style. They don't do this because they hate other styles or that they are stupid but rather because they really love their choice of style and this love can stem from either the particular type of music that is associated with it, their innate resonance with it, their curiosity to see how far they can take it, and much more. A good DJ can easily play the music that favors one over the other and it could be that the DJ is biased or because of luck. So, using the excuse of "I didn't feel the music or like the music" is a very valid argument when losing. If we genuinely want to uplift the level of competition then it is important to only have 2 rounds or 4 rounds with the genre of music changing in favor of both and if it's a tie then play different music on their rounds, especially from the top 16/8 onwards. This way the dancers can really bring their being forward and competing becomes more of a fair entertainment rather than a game of luck. One of my favourite battle is Boogie Frantick vs Soul and they got their own type of music on their rounds which truly made their skills pop! and then you show what you are truly capable of. At the moment, it is common knowledge that to excel in battle, you need to have sets prepared or know many styles to a good level and I think that's a real shame. It's like selling the artform short of what it's truly worth.
