I feel that part of what makes Steve Harvey so ideally suited for this job is because he's empathetic to the contestants on a personal level. When Steve turns to Jason and says, "you are a comedian. WE have other ways of making money" Steve feels for Jason's plight in this moment, because if Steve were on the other side of this and had to play the contestant, he's painfully aware that there's a chance he wouldn't make close to 100 points either, but it's not the end of the world when you fail. For a stand up comedian, an experience like this could easily turn into five minutes of stand up material to any audience for the rest of his life. It's all good.
