I'd love to see the look on the chefs face when he's sent the complete insides of a scallop! People in most cases won't eat anything other than a perfect looking, white, fresh scallop. If you wanted to eat the entire content's then eat it so fresh is still beating.
That's the roe, sometimes called the coral. Its delicious, so don't remove it - cook the whole scallop. It has a different texture to the white muscle meat, but is really delicious.
Is there a reason why the roe is never sold along side the muscle-meat at seafood markets or supermarkets? I never see it. This video is pretty old, but I'll take the chance with my question anyway.........
I can never open these things, I'm ok removing the Scallop if someone's opened the shell for me but it looks like a gooey mess if I try and open them myself.

wow very professional instructions.
What is the orange part? Why not wash them in water instead of wiping them with a grimy towel?
***** Seriously, people eat that, sperm, eggs, and all? I thought they were hermaphrodites?
Yep, rinse them in salty waty, then let them drain.

Yay you left the roe on! 😋😋😄
Lisa Chen ... Shit eater lol
It's not roe, it's what the Scallop uses to eat with and tastes great
holy work batman! No wonder this shit is so expensive.

Actually he's right.
Very interesting! Thanks.
I bought Scallops today and didn't know it's king scallops. The inside is like that . First time i cleaned it
How to get the sand OUT of the scallops?? I hate when they're gritty.
Your a pro man:)
@celestronyt He did say, some of it can be fibrous. And also it's about presentation as well. Plus I don't think I fancy eating a gut-sac.
The frill is actually a mantle, and it secretes the calcareous shell...btw...
Pro tip: eat the skirt too (but clean it well, it can get sandy). It's delicious. What a waste of perfectly good meat.
Good knife.Do not discard frills and "stomach" (stomach is very tasty). "Frill left" is the gills!
i think they're asking to be released more than to be eaten lawl
You mean lungs..
Why did you remove parts of the shellfish? The entire scallop (less the shell) is edible.
The discard bits may be edible (except for the guts), but they are not tasty.
what a beautiful white flesh
Nope...sorry! Scallops are bottom feeders and whatever impurities/heavy metals like mercury are in the sludge at the bottom are also in the scallops!
