anthing from the good the incomparable and noble Mr Ray Charles fills even this hard disappointed heart with nothing but love for all our African American brothers and sisters.
Absolutely love Ray Charles. I have this CD and play it all the time. Huge talent. Imagine being able to play a the piano and have a great voice as well..🌻😁
On this day in 1963 {April 28th} Ray Charles appeared in concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City... At the time his covered version of "Take These Chains from My Heart" was at #19 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; twenty-seven days later on May 25th, 1963 it would peak at #8 {for 1 week} and spent 11 weeks on the Top 100... Exactly one year earlier on April 28th, 1962 he was performing at the Donnelly Memorial Theater in Boston, Massachusetts... And at that time his "Hide 'Nor Hair" was at #23 and the B-side, "At the Club", was at #45 on the Top 100... On April 28th, 1987 Mr. Charles addressed the U.S. Congress concerning funding for hearing research, he was quoted as saying 'My eyes are my handicap, but my ears are my opportunity'... 'The Genius', born Ray Charles Robinson, passed away on June 10th, 2004 at the age of 73... May he R.I.P.
On this day in 1963 {May 22nd} Ray Charles began a three-day engagement at the Olympia Theater in Paris, France... While back in the U.S.A. his covered version of "Take These Chains from My Heart"* was at #8 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and that was also its peak position on the chart, it was at #8 for one week... It reached #7 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart... Hank Williams' original version peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Country & Western Singles chart on June 21st, 1953, he had passed away six months earlier on January 1st, 1953... * 1963 was a good year for Mr. Charles; he had seven songs on the Top 100, the other six were "Don't Set Me Free" {#20}, "The Brightest Smile in Town" {#92}, "No One" {#21}, "Without Love" {#29}, "Busted" {#4}, and "That Lucky Old Sun" {debut on Dec. 1st, but peaked at #20 on Jan. 12th, 1964}...
Thanks for posting this, which highlights the gospel influence on some of his work. The critical evaluation is interesting and informative; why did a great singer, as he plainly was, tail off rather disappointingly in the last decades of his career? Any answers/theories? I mean no disrespect to his memory at all.
This is a country song, not gospel, written by Hank Williams Sr. You might need to have your hearing checked. Ray Charles was great all the way up to his death. Minus some heroine induced mistakes, he came out with album after album of great music. Most people just take his biggest tunes and leave him at that. But the albums titled Friendship, Modern Sounds of Country and Western, Strong Love Affair?? I can't see how you can consider those "disappointing".
first song i heard was ray charles, hit the road jack back in those days had to deal with a lot of shit from white folk, american idol is a bunch of bull shit, how come you don,t you have more black singers on these shows ,the greatest singers are black, don,t forget it,i,am not a rac, just black with a long memory from the past,i have a dream that all singers will be given a chance ,this ant the 11960,s
AT 82 I revel in the genius of RAY & HANK.....we been blessed....

Ray Charles was simply amazing. Composer, musician, performer....someone should make a movie of....oh yeah, never mind.
anthing from the good the incomparable and noble Mr Ray Charles fills even this hard disappointed heart with nothing but love for all our African American brothers and sisters.
Take these tears form my eyes and let me see. Never will we see or hear music like this again.
Every syllable he sings is laden with genius.
Absolutely love Ray Charles. I have this CD and play it all the time. Huge talent. Imagine being able to play a the piano and have a great voice as well..🌻😁

November 23/20 classic my parents music, time is just disappearing! COVO19 😪 💔 but we're here! With the Man! ❤️❤️🎼🎹
i love the solo in this
Love this John....thank you
Hank Willams or Ray ... this song is just of love ...
Ray Charles brilliant, wonderful but Hank makes your soul cry singing this
Ray had more soul in his pinkie than hank had in his whole body. Hank was a great song writer but not the best singer.
@@shotty2164 again Hank makes your soul cry (but each to their own and all that!)
a musical giant
fantastic song by a fantastic singer Thanks
pure talent!!!
BAD AS RAY THANK YOU FOR MUSIC AND SOUND..................RIP
Fabulous!! Great memories
Take These Chains from My Heart" was written by Fred Rose and Hy Heath. The song was the last of Hank Williams' country number-one hits.
souvenir de Berkendael 62 -64 et de l'ami qui jouait du piano dans notre salle de récréation
Robert, take these chains from my heart and set me free. Take these tears from eyes and let me see. Let me find someone new.

mi favrit singer!
AMEN
loved. ray. soul. feel. me

thanks john1948.
Nobody can write them like Hank Williams Nobody
That piano solo around 1:10 is just ridiculous
Hank Williams didn't actually write this song, but he did record it in his final session and make it famous.
legende
En hommage à Hank Williams le plus grand compositeur country.

how many people can sing & play the same way at 70 as they did at 30? "you got the right stuff, baby.."

Because music was replaced by screaming and electronics.
I'm a great admirer of Brother Ray, as was clear from my first comment.Seems you don't want to have an amicable, adult discussion... Ho, hum.
My comments are intended for Neil Jones.
Ray is amazing but this is Hank Williams
another Margie Hendricks classic. wish i had known her.
this is not a love song it a separation song all these years i thought it was a love song
still is a beautiful song
Set me free
Does anyone actually realize that this is Hank Williams.....He wrote this song
"Ridiculous" in this context means extraordinary. It's slang, Daddy-o.
