Hiya, that Kerry's building with no windows were two huge silo's, small coasters would come up river under the bridge and moor at the wharf there to discharge the grain they brought.
The other building is where they use to produce flour and behind that building with the windows (flour mill) they also use to produce animal feeds, it still operates today but the produce may have changed a little, unfortunately no commercial shipping comes to Gainsborough any more not even to the mill by river, not even the sand and/or gravel barges come up here to the quarries further up river, such a shame and in its heyday Gainsborough was a thriving inland port.
Enjoying your wanderings and always look forward to the next, take care mate and thanks.
It is such a shame and those boats can carry much more than a lorry could. I bet it was thriving but it's got a bad reputation now. Thanks for the great info Clive.
Another great video on this one, Will. and Yes we all know that you cares about Sue get warm hot temperatur in the 40 degrees celcius. . Keep youre head cool Will, keep boating and making happynes arround on the tube. Groetjes uit Holland.
Hello Leon. Thankyou so much for the great comment. It's been a lovely summer this year. I've really enjoyed it. It's very very hot in Taiwan for months on end. Argh horrible. It's heavy rain now so it's cooling down. Take care.
You are in my territory now, I live near Keadby. I walked along the Trent from Burton upon Trent to Keadby. 119 miles in 7 days. ilona
Blimey well done. Lovely area. Great for walking. Thanks for watching
You're a madman! Going up rivers again haha.
Happy you made it and I will see you in the next one.
I'm happy I made it. I can't say I enjoy tidal rivers but as long I prepare properly it should be ok Robert. I say should..ha ha Thanks again for watching.
Nice one will long old ride that bloody wide init .That Kerry foods when I first came to bournemouth I was looking for work as u do I got a job in millers pies now Kerry foods they say if you see how they are made you won’t eat one I tell that is true I lasted 2 days in that factory you can go off ya head in there when u past that factory it brought it all bk I got pie ptsd 😂Cheers Will 🙂⛳️🔧✌️
Ha ha Pie PTSD. I'm sure food production could look abit more interesting for the staff. That one looked like the gollag..
great video , a very long trek up river , we've done that trek in my dads boat , we broke down half way down & we had to pull in on one of those banks , & from what i remember , there was a caravan park up above , & some guy from there helped my dad out , me & hubby have been to torksey a few times , & even seen it in flood lol .
That's scary, I wouldn't like to brake down on that river. I knew a guy who did and he drifted for miles. A lot of the locks flood along there. I avoid it in winter. Thankyou for the story Lori. Cheers
I remember doing this trip many years ago up to torskey lock for the night brilliant stuff
Getting into Torksey is easy it's Stockwith and Keadby that catch people out Phil. Glad it brought back some good memories for you.
@@NarrowboatWill yea I remember that with our boat lol
That look a bit scary but you handled it really well. It along hall that before you can stop 😂 enjoyed the vlog. Take care
It is scary that's why I checked everything before leaving. Nowhere to stop and strong flow make it abit interesting. Ha ha Thankyou for watching Caroline.
Love this blog, there is a market at Torksey and it’s massive.
Yes the carboot. I go there with another boat couple. Stay tuned.
Loved the handbrake turn! That food factory, they didn't want employees gongoozling all day, so no windows for them.
Horrible looking place. Fancy going into work to look at that everyday. Yeah a great handbrake turn in intentional. Ha ha
hi another interesting vlog keep up the good work xx
That's very kind of you Sally thankyou.
Great video Will, I am always happy when you get of those bloody rivers.
Ha ha so am I mate. When I left the lock and hit the flow it was a shock. Cheers Philip
Love the hairstyle at the start - you look like Ralph Wiggum (Simpsons)😄
Ha ha ha I'm a barrownoater.
Very good video 👍👍👍👍🎶
You're very welcome Thomas.
Nice haircut!
Ha ha done by the council. Me in other words. Cheers Carmen
That little Viking 23 that passed you only needs around 30cm of water to float. I used to have a Viking, had loads of fun in it, I could fit it into places where others feared to cruise!
Yeah I guessed it didn't need alot of depth but it can get pretty shallow on those corners. Nippy little boat. My first boat was a Norman 25. Great first boat. Cheers Chris
good vid on channel thanks lee
You're very welcome Lee
Not related to this video, I was just scanning through the BSS requirements for something else and noticed a whole section on fuel tank vents (2.3 I think). When the time comes, it might be worth checking your modification doesn’t fall foul or the rules. Personally I think what you have done with yours is brilliant btw. Keep up the good work.
No you're right it probably won't pass but they don't have water in their fuel to think about. I will refit my vent cap post BSC. Thanks Craig.
@@NarrowboatWill Since I mentioned your vent on the vid you did, I spoke to an examiner and he said the flame arrester is no longer a requirement on diesel.
I don't know whether you'd be interested, but "Hobo Shoestring" is the address of a bloke who rides goods trains across the US. Good vlog.
I love trains but I'm not a train guy. That does sound interesting though. Cheers John.
Got it worked it out 😂😂
ah lad you make it all look so easy - did you see Robbies 'short' today - mink invasion !!
No. I had Mink on a previous vlog perhaps it's the same ones. Cheers again Lloyd.
@@NarrowboatWill that's why I mentioned it Will I remembered you being thrilled to have spotted them !
Four boats waiting? Let's say three and a half ;-)
Plastic sandwich with sauce on it, haha, wooohahaaaaaa!
I wouldn't like to be in-between those steel boats in a plastic boat Umberto. Ha ha
Don't worry about the scenery being boring, to an old homesick pom like me, it is all interesting. That food factory, (those two words should never be in the same sentence), was a bit scary; have you seen the old Charlton Heston movie 'Soilent Green'? One complaint; no episode is complete without hearing you getting a bit of abuse from the Tillerman; perhaps you could give him something to hold now and again in those holes in his creepy little hands; maybe it'll sweeten him up a bit. Nice episode as usual; much appreciated.
Hello Jack. I haven't seen that film but I love some of the old movies. They had to act in those days. The tiller man does hold stuff. Flowers feathers etc in the past. Ha ha. I'm glad you're enjoying my journeys. I love it. Thanks for watching ripper.
It can be very unnerving if you aren't expecting that side tilt when you come out of Keadby lock!
That's a posh word. I can think of more common ones. 🤭🤭
@@NarrowboatWill 😂
Hi Will
Hello Kat. good night Kat
Hi Will, which way did you go to get to Torskey lock ?
From Keadby lock to Torksey lock.
Hi mate I was wondering how many miles of canals does England actually have ? Cheers 👍
I think it's 2000 miles of navigable waterways. I'm doing the whole lot. You coming?
@@NarrowboatWill absolutely
Hi Will, where about are you right now? Lincoln?
Oooh abit further than that me hearty.
@@NarrowboatWill how close to Peterborough?
@@NarrowboatWill I feel a coffee coming on 😎
@@nickevans1698 Probably a month away. I'm trying to get my blacking sorted at the moment. Let me know where you are nearer the end of sept. See you on the cut.
Hi will I no your not on the trent now but info for others the ancor should have 6x depth for rope and chain and 4x depth for chain the stretch of river between keadby and torksey can be over 20ft in the channel as the tidal range is 1.2m to over 5m at times if the line is too short the ancor may not hold due to the scope .
. 6x depth of rope and 4x depth of chain. Blimey that's alot of depth. 6x 20 feet and 4x depth for chain? Have I got that right because I asked the lock keeper about it . He said 3 times the depth. We didn't know how deep it was so we all went anyway. Ha ha Cheers Daniel.
@@NarrowboatWill this is the theory mate but you can't have a wrope too long but you can have one too short and you can decide with a long wrope how much you wont out .all the best.
@@danielcameron8085 that's very true Daniel. Cheers for that
