    like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....

    Pioneer Kuro Elite plasma TV in 2020. I love it! I’m still using one too. I put my Samsung 4K TV in the same room as the plasma for a side by side comparison and although the Kuro isn’t 4K, it still managed to look much better overall. Colors are more vibrant and accurate, off angle viewing angles pretty much unchanged, black levels are great. The plasma still looks way better than the 4K LED TV in a living room environment. The Samsung is better in a smaller room were your pretty much forced to sit directly in front of the display.

    It's funny... it's as if the HomePod finally found it's true calling... after they get discontinued. I finally adapted my HomePods for use with the Apple 4K TV and WOW... remarkable sound quality and space. I'm still impressed those diminutive smart speakers can generate that range of sound.
    That said, part of my long standing complaint about home theater was the big disparity between thundering explosions to soft-spoken dialog. Granted, the center channel is suppose to accommodate this portion, but my previous Samsung system didn't fulfill that role very well. I was constantly fiddling with my volume and I also noticed this to some degree with the HomePods. So I've supplemented the left and right HomePods with two HomePod Minis front and back. The HomePods got pushed further away from each other while the Mini resides over the screen. The rear Mini sits on a back console table. Since I'm able to control volumes individually, I can push the center Mini pod up a little higher while the other stay at a similar level. So far this seems to balance pretty well while providing more sound to spoken word. It's true the Mini pods don't support Atmos and I probably need to do more experimentation, but for the moment it works pretty well.

    I hate to break it to you, but you were listening to 5.1 sound and not Atmos. Disney+ needs to be up. If you check the Mandalorian again you’ll see it says 5.1. If you have actual equipment that can play Atmos the description will say 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos. Use HomePods and it says all of that by 5.1 replaces Atmos. Agree with you that 5.1 sounds good. But the sound is lower when compared to tv+ and Netflix. If you want to test Atmos you need to watch one of those. tv+ is the best choice because everything there is in Atmos.

  • @Azalia2

    Bought a second Homepod to try this. To be honest, I'm disappointed by the "home theatre" experience (the music experience is great). I can't hear any spacial elements at all. As best I can tell, Atmos and 5.1 are just being down-mixed to stereo. But it *is* good sounding stereo though. Astonishingly good bass extension - akin to subwoofer levels. But sadfy I don't hear any height or virtual surround effects. Also, at times it's very obvious to me which speaker dialogue is coming from - dialogue doesn't always sound centred such that you can't tell it's not coming from the TV itself. I'm pretty sure I've got everything set up correctly (iPhone, iPods and tvOS all updated to 14.2). Not sure if the system is still a work-in-progress or the the virtual surround/Atomos effect s(if there are any) are massively room dependent.
    The most annoying thing is there's no way to tell on the Apple TV itself, in the Home app or otherwise what signal your Homepods are receiving (stereo, 5.1 or Atmos). So you're left guessing.
    I was A/B'ing between the dual Homepods and my normal home theatre setup of a Sonos Beam + two Play:1 surrounds. The latter Sonos system sounded far superior in terms of sound stage and clarity. But the Homepods had superior bass.
    If anyone thinks I've overlooked something in the setup I'd be glad to hear suggestions.

      I was researching DOLBY ATMOS with 4k and Homepods and realized if you do not see Dolby Atmos as a selection in the video/audio settings on the apple 4k tv. You are not listening to Dolby Atmos. I called apple support about this and found that you need a dolby atmos reciever or dolby atmos passthrough tv in order for it to work. Question: our tv is wall mounted; could we place a duel set of HomePods behind us and still get “accurate” Atmos? I’ve searched all over the web and haven’t found anything on ideal room placement for HomePods when connecting to AppleTV. There’s just no way in our very unique living room that they’d work close to the tv where everything is mounted.

    @Erfon Elijah, like you I eagerly awaited the release of the Home Theater capability when it was announced. I have twin HomePods in stereo pair and previously using them as speaker for a TV was frustrating. When 14.2 came out I dutifully upgraded all my devices. By normal Apple standards I would not say that getting Dolby 5.1 and Atmos configured is straightforward and could be prone to error. I have a Apple TV 4K in my living room connected via HDMI to a Denon Atmos capable receiver. My first observations is that the configuration options for HomePods on Apple TV are different than for a conventional receiver. As an example the immersive audio configuration is no longer there. I am ecstatic of the performance of the HomePods as a pseudo sound bar. I really feel I am getting value out of my home pods now. However I have determined that at this time Atmos only works for for content delivered though Apple TV Plus. Atmos content that I previously purchased from iTunes only renders in 5.1 (which is still amazing). Netflix does not even present its Atmos content and neither does Disney Plus. I did direct comparisons to the catalogs from both Apple TV 4K's and they are different. I spoke with Apple support yesterday about this. The first person I spoke with was clueless he denied that Atmos was even available on HomePods. Finally I got to a tech specialist who took detailed notes and has sent a request to engineering. Would appreciate your thoughts.

    • @PilotRocker
      @PilotRocker 3 года назад

      @Antonio Zamudio Yes I am aware and the setting is correct on my Apple TV. I spoke with Apple engineering and they have confirmed that Atmos is only working for Apple TV+, Atmos movies purchased from iTunes will be enabled in a future release. Netflix, Amazon, Tidal and Amazon Video all need to update their apps before Atmos is supported. It may be difficult to discern the difference between an Atmos soundtrack and Dolby 5.1 soundtrack from a past of HomePods but you can tell if it is in Atmos when the content is showing because will will be annotated.

  • @viktorarnason
    @viktorarnason 2 года назад +1

    You need more than 2 speakers to enjoy atmos mixes.
    Atmos gets somewhat delivered to headphones because mixing engineers have a software that translates dolby mix (really for at least 6 speakers, ideally for 10) into binaural response for headphones that allows you to experience things coming behind you, but that doesn’t translate to two speakers that are placed in front of you.
    What you described with the movement of items can absolutely also be achieved with stereo mixes, only stereo cannot give you direct signals that come behind or above you.

    • @ulvidamirli2758

      @@ErfonElijah There’s not that much choice when it comes to subwoofers with airplay 2 compatibility out of the box. But actually it is very easy to turn any subwoofer into airplay 2 compatible as most of them has audio inputs. I suggest to use anything you already own or BIC America F12 with AirPort Express adapter (for airplay 2 compatibility). The reason for that is its price tag doesn’t say it is “the expensive speaker for powerful HiFi setup” but more likely the one which I think is suitable to use with HomePods. 2nd reason: you can get really nice experience with this one (25Hz-200Hz is unbelievable at $209).
