  • In this video we're looking at some old houses in Russia built by prisoners of war in the 1940s. Also a Russian wooden house nicknamed 'gingerhouse' built in 1880s. And visit to a chocolate store to make a perfect day:) #RussianVlogs #LifeinRussia #urbanexploring

My grandfather was a cabinetmaker, so I can really appreciate the ornate woodwork trim on the traditional Russian houses. The Soviet-style apartment block reminded me of the old projects (housing for lower-income people) in Chicago; Google "Cabrini Green" to see what I mean. The Maria chocolate shop looks delightful. I like how friendly and enthusiastic the shop clerk was; she took real pride in the merchandise.

The building with many doors is really a building with storage rooms and with cellars (as we call it "погреб"). There is a district here in Volgograd called Angarsky, many years ago it used to be a settlement near the city, there are two-stored houses there with only 2 apartments on one floor, 4 apartments in one part of an apartment block. And every apartment has its own piece of land with a garden and such a storage room with a cellar. People live in the city and like in the countryside at the same time 😊

Thank for showing so much detail on the Sekivanoce House love the Old Russian homes it amazing the skill of the wood designs and workers back 120 years ago. I think Alana has better taste in chocolate than you do. You should do a book on all the old homes in Russia.

There are German style houses all over Poland. Poland is full of German style houses because the Poles gained lots of German territory. there are fewer such houses in Russia. America and Russia were alike in another sense: Both countries received lots of ethnic Germans as immigrants possibly 200 years back or so. Those who moved to Russia were more Russianized, as kids usually switch over to be Russian speakers, and russian speaking grand kids of immigrants coming from Germany to Russia about 200 years back had all Russian names.

@RussianPlus, please consider making a video about Russian food, especially about these ice cream type of chocolate bars (I've herard there are many available) ... or any other typical Russian drinks or food you won't find anywhere else ... I would think off kvass or chicken Kiev style.

not sure what you mean by 'the ice-cream type of chocolate bars'.

@@maria.5974 in Russian-food-shops in Germany they sometimes sell things which look like a chocolate bar (e.g. like Mars or Snickers) but are actually frozen and made from ice cream. I thought this is typical since it doesn't exist in this variety in Germany.

@@henningbartels6245 i'm aftaid it's not typical Russian product as I've never seen this in Russia. Bounty ice-cream or Mars ice-cream- yes, but those are imported.

@@maria.5974 my fault, maybe I was wrong. What I ment is obviously made from curd cheese and called something like Syrok. It is probably not ice cream - I just assumed since it often in the frozen section in Russian shops in Germany.

Is your RUclips channel popular inside Russia? A little or a lot? Is it growing? Where are most listeners from? I’m watching in Texas, USA. BTW, many of us highly respect your country.
