Damn I really wish there was a game with both Zangief & Haggar in it. They share similar movesets and it would be awesome to see both grappling in TAS version! 😢😢

Zangief is heavily based on Victor Zangiev and Dr. Death Steve Williams.
Raiden is obviously based on Big Van Vader.
Now I would really love to see King (Tekken) vs Tizoc (KoF), or Armor King (Tekken, he's like a Heel version of King) vs King of Dinosaurs (who is actually Tizoc, but Heel)

Hmm... first I've seen anyone make the comparison to Dr. Death, but I can see that, and why CAPCOM would choose him to base a character on. Over as he was, he was underrated. In the same vein, maybe there was a bit of Stan Hansen behind Zangief's spinning lariats?
Victor Zangiev, though, it's just the name. I don't even see a lot of him in the look or gimmick. Even the bearhugs were stock standard for anyone with the big Russian gimmick back then.
@@crimsonmask3819Yes, just the name Zangiev. Capcom probably couldn't (and probably still can't) differentiate between amateur (and actual) wrestling and pro wrestling. They made Zangief, a pro wrestler, a Russian presumably because the unanimously strongest wrestler at the time was Aleksandr Karelin, who was actually an amateur (Greco-Roman) wrestler instead of a pro one. Zangief is basically the pro wrestling Karelin with facial hairs, chest hair, and the exaggerated Karelin Lift called Atomic Driver, which is basically an exaggerated version of the spinning piledriver.
As for the lariat, Zangief was inspired to do the lariat by Mike Haggar. In return, Mike Haggar was inspired to do the spinning piledriver by Zangief. Speaking of Haggar, I think pretty much everyone knows Haggar is based on Jesse Ventura.
As for Stan Hansen, have you seen Raiden's Super Move in KoF XIII? Now that's absolutely based on Stan Hansen's infamous extraordinarily super stiff clothesline!
